Turbine's Infinite Crisis is launching into closed beta today, and to help celebrate, the team has released a new Champion Profile to spotlight The Joker's involvement in the highly anticipated DC Comics-based MOBA. We've seen everyone from Cesar Romero to Heath Ledger play the part of The Joker, but that evil grin is always there to remind us of just how warped this character really is. In the game, The Joker is equipped with explosive dolls and boxing glove-adorned rocket launchers to keep you on your toes. Be sure to check out the highlight video featuring The Joker just after the jump, and sign up for closed beta if you haven't already. [Source: Warner Brothers press release]

Turbine Entertainment has released two more Champion spotlights for its upcoming DC Universe MOBA Infinite Crisis, this time showcasing the abilities (and tactical capabilities) of Gaslight Catwoman and Poison Ivy. Gaslight Catwoman fills the "glass cannon" archetype by outputting ridiculous amounts of damage, at the heavy cost of having virtually no defensive utility. Keeping with that theme, her play style seems built for stealthy ambushes rather than full-frontal assaults. Poison Ivy, whose profile can be seen after the break, is a ranged character capable of performing both support and offensive duties, thanks to a mix of healing, shielding and AOE damage techniques.

Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment today released two new character videos for the upcoming DC Comics-based MOBA Infinite Crisis, and we've got 'em both for your eyeballs. First we have Gaslight Catwoman, a stealthy assassin who sneaks around and teleports to finish off enemies when they least expect it. She has the passive ability to deal more damage to already-injured foes. She also launches her claws in a cone-shaped attack! MeOW! Next we have Poison Ivy, who's all about protecting the environment. Her passive ability creates a healing ring for every sixth spell she casts; she can also cast Deadly Flora, an area-of-effect spell that heals teammates and damages foes at the same time. Bammo! You can sign up for the closed beta at the official site, but hurry because it's due to start on May 8th, right around the corner. Click past the cut to check out the videos.

Turbine Entertainment's DC Universe MOBA, Infinite Crisis, will begin its closed beta testing next week on Wednesday, May 8, publisher Warner Bros. has announced. Folks interested in participating in the testing initiative should fill out an application, provided they – like us – have sufficiently mastered the art of using a gaming mouse while wearing Batman gauntlets. Warner Bros. also released some new artwork showcasing Infinite Crisis' multiverse variants of Batman and Wonder Woman. Gaslight Batman is pretty cool, we guess, but did you see that robot? She's like if Wonder Woman were a Persona user.%Gallery-187306%

It's been a fairly quiet month on the superhero front, which is the way of things. Some months it seems as if you can't go a day without a new launch; others you realize belatedly that it's the end of the month because another round of bills are due. Possibly including subscription fees. It all ties together. Of course, the superhero arena has been quiet for a little while now, but we're seeing signs of life cropping up once again. There are titles in development, new content approaching, and a launch in about a month that should really be getting a bit more marketing support. That's a topic for another article. So as we do once per month at A Mild-Mannered Reporter, it's time to look back over the past month or so and talk about the news stories that have cropped up relating to the genre of men and women in spandex punching robots.

The new DC-centric MOBA is accepting signups now on its official website, and Turbine has released a bit of new art focusing on various multiverse Wonder Woman variants to celebrate the occasion. Turbine's Infinite Crisis roster keeps growing larger and more potent. Today the studio has unveiled two new playable characters for the MOBA: Doomsday and Gaslight Batman. Doomsday is a brute-force character who loves to wail on opponents at close range, while Gaslight Batman is an inventor who's all about his trusty sonic pistols. We've got a video for each of these characters for you to check out after the break. Discussion: Which of these two would win in a fight, do you think? [Source: Turbine press release]

Another classic hero is joining the Infinite Crisis line-up, a selection of champions that already includes variations of Wonder Woman, Batman, the Joker, and much more. Today Turbine released a video introducing Green Lantern, the fighter pilot-turned-superhero who uses a ring of power to decimate his opponents. As a ranged blaster, Green Lantern is built for kiting; he has low mana cost for shelling out his intense damage and frequent disable attacks, but low movement speed to flee from melee fights. The trailer highlights the hero's passive ability indomitable will, which increases power damage based on missing will and regains health whenever you earn a kill or assist. Also demonstrated are several attacks including slam, constrict, missile barrage, and Green Lantern's Light. Check out the moves in the clip after the break and hear tips how to get the most out of using this champion. And for a look at how the game plays, check out Massively's hands-on experience from GDC. Beta sign-ups are going on now. [Source: Turbine press release]

You know what your problem is? You've been getting too much sleep. Don't worry, Infinite Crisis has got your back. The team introduced two new champions today, one of which is Nightmare Batman. Living up to his name, Nightmare Batman is pretty much the scariest thing we've seen all week. He's described as a "feral hunter" who ravages his opponents and whose life skill is "eternal hunger." It's not all creepy claw-feet and soulless eyes, though: Infinite Crisis is also bringing in Wonder Woman. She's armed with godlike regeneration, a golden lasso, and an inherent tanky je ne sais quoi. Skip below the cut to check out the champions' intro videos. [Source: WB Games press release]

Having spent the last couple of weeks systematically irritating the makers of every superheroic MMO currently on the market, I think now seems like a perfect time to go trawling for recent news and views. Especially since I am writing this on April 1st to meet my deadline, so there's a day-long moratorium on any real news being posted. (That Kickstarter of ours is very real, though. You need to give us money right now.) Of course, the big news was a completely unexpected announcement that came out right after PAX East concluded: Another challenger is entering the arena, and it's something no one could have seen coming without insider information. Meanwhile, Marvel Heroes announced its launch date days after I had speculated on what that might be, and Champions Online is gearing up to kick off another event. So let's get talking about all the superhero news that's been going down since the last roundup.

  • The Daily Grind: What would get you to try a genre you don't like?

I don't particularly like MOBAs. PvP in general doesn't do it for me, and e-sports are closer to unintentional comedy than to actual sports that I play and watch. That said, I'll very likely play Infinite Crisis at some point simply because I'm a fan of DC Comics. Yeah, I'm a sucker for certain IPs, and marrying one of them to various game genres guarantees that I'll give you my money. I suspect that I'm not alone here, otherwise companies like Turbine would spend more time developing original products. What about you, Massively folk? If not IPs, is there anything else that would make you try a game in a genre that you dislike? Every morning, the Massively bloggers probe the minds of their readers with deep, thought-provoking questions about that most serious of topics: massively online gaming. We crave your opinions, so grab your caffeinated beverage of choice and chime in on today's Daily Grind!

I'm not a huge comic book fan, so the instant appeal of Infinite Crisis' DC universe setting isn't as pronounced for me as it may be for others. I do, however, enjoy the occasional round of League of Legends, and my affection for Awesomenauts has been made quite clear. In that respect, Infinite Crisis shows a lot of promise. The game tweaks the multiplayer online battle arena (MOBA) formula in several key areas, changing the way that currency is earned and offering environments with plenty of interactive touches. Now, if I were a huge comic book fan, I'd probably tell you that I played as Doomsday. I'd also tell you that I killed Poison Ivy by crushing her with a car, and it was awesome. If I were a comic book fan.%Gallery-183722%

We just learned of Infinite Crisis' existence on Monday, but don't expect a long wait to get your hands on the game's various DC Comics characters. The new title is well beyond the here's-an-idea-for-you stage -- in fact, it's already playable! So what did this MOBA noob think of the game? Does it do justice to the Justice League? When is beta going to happen so others can get in on the action? And how on earth did Turbine keep Infinite Crisis a secret so far into its development? After my play session I sat down with Creative Director Cardell Kerr to discuss some of these burning questions.
