Apple to host second launch event in China on September 11th
We can't be the only ones wondering whether the bright colors in Apple's September 10th invite were a visual reference to the snazzy plastic iPhones we've been seeing recently. Indeed, these same primary hues have now re-appeared in a second invite sent to journalists in China, summoning them to special event on September 11th in Beijing, and that only adds to our expectation that a cheaper iPhone 5C (if that's what it's really called) may be imminent. Tim Cook wouldn't have undertaken all those long-haul visits to Chinese carriers just for the free slippers and sleeping masks. Update: Seems like Beijing won't be alone; Berlin and Tokyo will also be getting their own iPhone launch events. Those localized launches will apparently feature either a live stream or a replay of the Cupertino press conference, along with some "other content," according to AllThingsD. This isn't the first time Apple has run events in multiple countries, but we also don't expect them to differ terribly from the primary one held in the US.

iPhone 5C glimpsed in blue and other colors, doesn't look awful
Our previous look at a tangled pile of iPhone 5C's wasn't especially flattering, and it only showed the plain white version of the rumored handset. The newer image above is impossible to authenticate, but it's a tad more sympathetic and it comes from a batch of photos of yellow, pink and blue plastic iPhones (or perhaps knock-offs) that briefly appeared on Chinese site iapps.im before being deleted at the request of a "relevant party." Although there are definitely some echoes of Nokia's Lumia 620 here, the close-up shot of the blue model suggests we may be looking at something a bit thinner, with slightly less rounded edges, and with a non-removable unibody that may also have a more serious matte finish -- although the translucent packaging makes it hard to be sure. Go ahead and squint at the other photos after the break.
Goophone to launch $100 iPhone 5C clone, still KIRFing it
Goophone's shaping up to be an enduring passenger aboard the iPhone clone train. Hence, it comes as absolutely no surprise that it's conjuring up an iPhone 5C copy months after it released an iPhone 5S of its own. Despite popular belief that the 5C will be more affordable than the typical iPhone, the KIRFer has confirmed to us that it's making a copy known as the i5C. Goophone has yet to spill the details (and the above image is just a mockup), but leaked specs suggest it'll contain a 4-inch 960 x 540 screen, a 1.2GHz dual-core MTK6572 processor and an 8-megapixel rear / 2-megapixel front-facing camera. It reportedly supports quad-band GSM, has 3G connectivity and runs Android 4.2. It's claimed that the Goophone i5C will ring in at $100, but anyone who'd like to get their hands on the cloner's latest masterpiece will have to wait -- Goophone tells us it's waiting for the real one to make first arrival.

Pegatron employee spies a pile of iPhone 5Cs, all warming up for September
When we spotted this photo on French blog NoWhereElse, we were close to dismissing this as just a bunch of iPhone 5C knock-offs (the shanzhai industry works very fast), just as the site also speculates. But after digging around the original poster's Sina Weibo profile, we deduced that this spy shot came straight out of Pegatron's Shanghai plant, which matches what we've read in the recent China Labor Watch report on Apple. According to her posts, the cheeky employee -- or more likely an ex-employee at this point -- in question joined the company's quality control department around mid-July. In an earlier comment, she also hinted that her plant is responsible for the latest Mac mini as well. The above photo was published yesterday, and it only came with the following caption: "The low-end iPhone 5C to be launched for Chinese consumers in September doesn't look much different than the Xiaomi Phone 2, right?" While it doesn't explain what's going on in the image, this appears to be a warm-up procedure (likely just with small batches for quality control) to make sure the devices are fully functional before they are boxed up. We've seen this in factory tours before, but no photography was allowed in the production lines; which makes us wonder how this shot came out of a supposedly well-guarded environment. September couldn't come any quicker for leaky Apple.
The gold iPhone is a done deal, says AllThingsD
Go on, reject the notion. Work yourself into a tizzy. Then, grab an Orange Crush and a bag chair, 'cause you're going to need some serious support to handle the realization. The gold iPhone is coming, and it'll be launched during Apple's upcoming event on September 10th. As AllThingsD reports, a new flagship iPhone will be unveiled with an "elegant gold tone," which is said to be more like champagne in actuality. If the rumors prove true, we should see a white face with a gilded rear... which will never be seen by anyone once you strap a case on it. Best of all? We're sensing a golden opportunity for Macklemore to score a product placement promotion in a future music video.
AllThingsD: Apple's next iPhone event slated for September 10th
September 10th, folks -- that's when Apple will unveil its next iPhone according to AllThingsD. We've received no official word yet, but recent leaks (and past form) suggest a refreshed iPhone 5 (possibly with a larger screen?) and possibly a low-cost model clad in plastic. It's a safe bet that the release version of iOS 7 will also make an appearance at the event, which is shaping up to be an iPhone- and iOS-focused affair, according to ATD. Feeling a sense of déjà vu?
