ASUS AIR3 iPod speaker system / internet radio hits the FCC
While the iPod sound system boat has already sailed (numerous times), there's always a minor boom in copycats when the holiday season draws near. Thankfully, ASUS' latest contribution to the over-saturated market is one with a differentiating factor, as the AIR3 tunes into internet radio stations as well. According to the posted user's guide in the FCC, the unit can play nice with dock-connecting iPods, stream WiFi radio stations and play back music from any other DAP via the 3.5-millimeter auxiliary jack. You'll also find a 128 x 64 resolution FSTN graphics display, S-Video / composite video outputs, an Ethernet jack and a total of four drivers to kick out the jams. An obligatory remote is also bundled in, though there's obviously no indication of a price tag or release date in those absolutely riveting FCC documents.
Yamaha introduces four mini audio systems, all with iPod docks
We sure hope you're an iPod owner if you're looking seriously at any one of Yamaha's latest mini audio systems, 'cause every last one of them packs an inbuilt dock front and center. Kicking things off is the MCS-1330, which features 60-watts of amplification, an integrated CD player, two speakers and a few other inputs for non-Appleites. The MCR-330 and MCR-230 only seem to differ in connection type, with both units packing 40 total watts of power and a USB socket. The CRX-430 finishes things off with 50-watts of RMS juice and a built-in CD player. The whole lot should ship by early December and will range in price from around $300 (CRX-430) to $1,233 (MCS-1330).[Via TechDigest]
Intempo unveils iPod-lovin' RDi-W / Fusion speaker systems
What can we say? Intempo has launched a new pair of iPod-compatible speaker systems, and unless you're somehow just entering the market for one in the latter half of 2008, chances are you're already yawning. Nevertheless, the RDi-W (pictured) does distinguish itself somewhat by including support for DAB and wireless internet radio, and there's a 30-watt internal amplifier to kick out the jams. The much drabber Fusion keeps things small and simple by offering up just 25-watts of power and DAB / FM tuners. Boston Acoustics reveals Horizon i-DS2 iPod boombox
It only takes a glance to realize that Boston Acoustics' Horizon i-DS2 iPod boombox is merely a cleaned up version of the knobby Duo-i, but we must say, the new look is pretty sleek. Built to function with any dock-connecting iPod, this 60-watt speaker system includes twin 3.5-inch full-range drivers, a composite video output, USB connector and an auxiliary input for plugging in other DAPs / PMPs. The unit itself arrives in glossy white or glossy black, though users with an itch to customize can select from a variety of P.O.P. metal grilles. On paper, the unit isn't too shabby, but the $179.99 price tag is somewhat of a drag.
Speakal's iPig speaker system rolls in the mud with your iPod
For those of you (we know, pretty much everyone in existence) who already picked up a set of Pink Pig PC speakers a few years back, you can carry on with your daily routine. For everyone else that owns an iPod, hold it right there. Speakal is delivering the iPod docking iPig, a unique speaker system that packs five total drivers (including a 4-inch subwoofer), adjustable bass controls, 360-degree sound distribution and a very debatable design. You'll also find a 3.5-millimeter auxiliary jack for hooking up every other source, and the bundled remote makes it easy to switch tracks and such from your sofa. The only problem? Vita Audio adds a splash of luxury to R4 iPod / DAB radio
Nothing says sexy like a sleek wood trim, wouldn't you wholeheartedly agree? Vita Audio obviously does, as it's £499.99 ($980) R4 integrated music system just screams lavish. The all-in-one unit packs an iPod dock, slot-loading CD / MP3 / WMA-music disc player, USB port, DAB and FM tuner with RDS, front and rear auxiliary ports, built-in display, alarm clock function and the firm's detachable RotoDial remote. For those not feeling the rich walnut veneer, there's also a high-gloss white (surprised?) version available for £50 ($97) more. Sadly, the "coming soon" tidbit leaves us clueless as to how long you actually have left to save up for either of the pricey systems.[Via ShinyShiny]
Goodmans iPod boombox includes 7-inch LCD display
If you've somehow managed to hold off from buying an iPod sound system, you can probably afford to gloss right over this one, too. Still, those waiting for one with just a touch more extravagance will likely find lots to love about Goodmans' latest iteration. Aside from boasting a pair of speakers, 3-in-1 multicard reader, LED accents, iPod dock and a bundled remote, this unit also includes an integrated 7-inch LCD display for showing off stored clips, photos, etc. Interestingly, we're left to wonder what the exact resolution here is, but if it's not impressive enough to share, you can probably look forward to lackluster results. Canton unveils DSS 303 iPod sound system
While there's a logjam of iPod speaker systems muddling up the $100 - $200 price range, Canton's looking to catch the eyes of those who prefer the somewhat finer things in life. The DSS 303 Digital Soundstation -- which is available in both black and white -- includes a pair of 4-inch aluminum cone woofers that handle frequencies from 38Hz to 25kHz, an AM / FM radio, clock, remote control, 3.5-millimeter auxiliary input and the obligatory iPod dock. There's also twin 1-inch fabric dome tweeters mounted on-axis with the woofers, and the internal amplifier is good for up to 50-watts per channel. Boston Acoustics takes a shot with Duo-i iPod boombox
Believe it or not, the deluge of iPod sound systems has died down in the past couple of months, but that's not to say newcomers won't join the absolutely oversaturated market. Case in point: Boston Acoustics is offering up an AM / FM Stereo Radio with iPod dock, which packs a pair of 3.5-inch full-range drivers, BassTrac low-frequency processing, twin auxiliary ports for connecting other DAPs / PMPs, line and stereo headphone outputs and a fancy display that automatically adjusts to ambient light. Furthermore, you'll find dual independent alarm clocks, a "touch" (slam?) sensitive snooze bar and a wireless remote to keep your derriere planted. As for pricing, this one's pretty much par for the course at $199.99.[Via Tech Digest]
Logitech unveils Pure-Fi Elite speaker system for iPod
Hot on the heels of Logitech's Pure-Fi Dream and Anywhere iPod speakers comes the Pure-Fi Elite, a system that reportedly ups the ante by offering up 80-watts of power and looks a hair like the AudioStation of old. Reportedly, the device touts two-way sats, one-inch tweeters, and four-inch woofers to go along with the built-in LCD display, wireless remote, iPod dock, video output, and auxiliary input jack. Details surrounding price and availability don't yet look to be officially available, but word on the street has this sucka landing next month for around $300.[Via MacNN]
Mondo intros "new age" Mondo Mint iPod sound system
Those of you still not satisfied with the multitude of iPod sound systems out there may want to give this latest unit from upstart Mondo some consideration, which offers much of what you'd expect along with a couple of less-than-common bonuses. At the center of the system is a Class-D digital amplifier, which pumps out 70 watts of power to the two two-way, wood-construction speakers (consisting of Peerless neodymium tweeters and 4-inch AuraSound aluminum cone woofers). You'll also get not one, but two iPod docks: one on the amplifier itself, and one on the included wireless dock, which will let you control the system from up to 100 feet away (a standard remote control is included as well). Mondo's also thankfully seen fit to include a a USB port and a line-in jack for your non-iPod audio needs. Look for this one to be available on June 11th for $349.
Chestnut Hill Sound set to launch "George" iPod sound system
It may not extend its reach into as many rooms as some iPod sound systems, but Chestnut Hill Sound's upcoming "George" unit looks to at least one up Apple's own Hi-Fi in the functionality (and price) department. Set to come in at a cool $550 next month, George will handle both iPod playback and AM/FM radio duties, each controllable though the detachable wireless remote, which has its own LCD display and range of controls (check it out up close after the break). What's more, the system uses the ZigBee wireless protocol (good for up to 25 feet), which would seem to open up some home automation possibilities, although Chestnut Hill only goes so far as to hint at it, mentioning that George "improves and expands to fit your life." Maybe they'll be willing to spill a few more details when George makes its official debut later this month at CES.[Via Crave]
