If you're fondling fully-automatic weapons in the dark right now, just wishing that you had a target for your elite skills, then... please don't tell us. Please. We'd be forced to report you. But you might be interested to hear that gamigo has ended the beta for Jagged Alliance Online, which means it's transitioned into an official launch. The turn-based multiplayer strategy title has recently implemented special contracts known as warzones, a crafting system, alliances, and the ability to respec skill points. The company has also released a brand-new website and trailer to commemorate the big occasion. Executive Board Member Patrick Streppel explains the lengthy beta for JAO: "Together with the developers, we have put a huge amount of effort to get the best performance possible in a browser. It pleases me to see that the long open beta testing of more than six months has well and truly paid off. We really wanted to avoid releasing an unfinished game and this has worked out brilliantly for all involved." You have our full permission to relinquish your weapons and watch the launch video after the jump.

If you're a fan of gamigo's free-to-play MMO library, you may have run into some trouble accessing your account info as of yesterday. The company "detected an illegal intrusion into [its] gamigo account system," according to an official post on the Jagged Alliance forums. The hack resulted in a temporary cessation of registration, account management, and payment services. The company says that while the game servers are still up and running, "the gAS services might be down for a while." gamigo also says that it encrypts passwords and that "no access to account names and other data is confirmed." [Thanks for the tip, Tim!] [Update: gamigo has now posted a letter to its website discussing the intrusion and recommending steps players should take to reset passwords and secure their accounts.]

"They gave us a mission. They never told us what it was about." So begins the newest trailer for Jagged Alliance Online, gamigo's turn-based tactical RPG that features mercenaries, guns, and plenty of strategy. The trailer begins with your typical action movie setup: Rugged heroes get involved in a mission gone bad and are hung out to dry by their superiors. Rather than to roll over to die, they pick up a few thousand rounds of ammunition and head out seeking a little revenge. After the introduction, the trailer does show a few seconds of in-game footage from Jagged Alliance Online, as bodies fly when hit with bullets and explosions rule supreme. Jagged Alliance Online will be at this month's Gamescom, and get a preview of the game's convention trailer after the jump.

  • Nintendo of Europe release list reveals 3D Xevious this month, MotoHeroz in Q3

Nintendo of Europe sent out its schedule for the summer and fall on 3DS, Wii, and DS, and most of the news to be found is related to downloadable games. For example: the 3DS's "3D Classics" version of Xevious is due to arrive on the eShop this month, as is a 3DS Virtual Console release of Mario's Picross. There's a DSiWare version of Jagged Alliance due in Q3, and RedLynx's WiiWare stunt racer, MotoHeroz, is given a Q3 release window here. Nintendo also predicts a September release for X-Men Destiny on Wii and DS, which would suggest that the other versions are due for release at that same time. Peruse the list for yourself after the break.

  • E3 2011: Gamigo goes turn-based with UFO Online and Jagged Alliance Online

Free-to-play developer gamigo, known best for titles like the up-and-coming Black Prophecy, wants to get further into the browser market... and in a big way. Later this year, the company will be releasing two new titles, both tactical, squad-based, turn-based, and browser-based and both in the Unity engine. And while both games do have some similarities, they feel very different from each other. UFO Online is set in a gloomy future of alien invasion, but players will also have to contend with defeating their fellow humans in an effort for world domination. If you like to take your turn-based gaming with a cold shot of stat- and skill-management, then you'll love UFO Online. Jagged Alliance Online plays in similar ways but is more straightforward. We sat down with gamigo at E3 for an exclusive look at the two titles, so click past the cut to read more! %Gallery-125873%

Gamigo and bitComposer Games announced today that they'll be working together to bring the classic title Jagged Alliance into the world of MMOs. Jagged Alliance Online will be a browser-based MMO, and should hold a familiar feel to those who know the game. The developers will be "keeping a popular mixture of tactics, strategy, role-play and management and transferring it to a modern MMO world," according to Gamigo's press release. Players will train and equip mercenaries, form alliances with others, accept timed mission arcs, and more within the game. The official JAO site is in German, and the developers have established a Facebook page as well so English-speaking players can keep up on the game's progression. Jagged Alliance Online is set for launch in 2011.

  • Jagged Alliance 3 due in 2011 from bitComposer

Jagged Alliance fans have been waiting since 1999 for a new game in the tactical role-playing series -- well, those Jagged Alliance fans that are still fans after all these years, anyway. bitComposer Games has acquired the rights to the series from Strategy First, announcing plans to release Jagged Alliance 3 sometime in 2011. The last time anything newish was released from the franchise was last year's DS port of the first game. Though bitComposer has taken over development on the series, the announcement doesn't make it sound like the new studio plans to make drastic changes to the Jagged Alliance formula: "Jagged Alliance 3 will build on the strengths of its famous predecessors and, set against the backdrop of a gripping story, will again deliver the much-loved combo of turn-based strategy gameplay with roleplay elements." • Jagged Alliance DS: a time capsule from 1994

Empire Interactive sent out new screens of its Jagged Alliance remake today, causing a unique variety of nostalgia. We're used to stuff like Mega Man 9 and Retro Game Challenge giving us the feeling of being back in the 80s, but we have as yet experienced very little nostalgia for mid-90s PC gaming. We think it's the awkward, semi-realistic character portraits that so effectively take us back in time. Speaking of awkward character portraits, is it just us, or does that guy kind of look like a bearded, bronzed John Ritter?Even without the warm feelings we have for kinda-ugly games of the past, Jagged Alliance DS could be good news for DS gamers looking for tactical strategy without a fantasy-RPG setting. According to the accompanying press release, JADS is coming out sometime this spring for $30.%Gallery-30513%

Rumored M.I.A. since former publisher Strategy First canceled all of its DS titles, the Jagged Alliance port for the DS has returned with a release scheduled for 2009! Have a look at the game's soldiers of fortune in the gallery below!Strategy First is still helping Cypron Studios (Command and Destroy) handle development for the project while Empire Interactive, as GameFly predicted, is taking over publishing duties. So long as this eventually ships, that's fine with us!For those of you who were to busy playing console releases to mess with PC titles in the mid-to-late 90s, the Jagged Alliance series comprises of tactical RPGs featuring player-controlled squads of mercenaries, each unit possessing different skills and personalities. Think of it as X-COM, but with more character and less aliens. On a negative note, as excited as we are to see this PC classic finally coming to the DS, the port's graphics, though more detailed, somehow manage to look less appealing than the graphics from the original Jagged Alliance for DOS, which was released in 1994!%Gallery-30513%[Via press release] Are you a strategy nut? For most of you, this news won't mean much, but we'd urge you to stick around anyway, just so you can see the look on the others' faces (it'll be worth it): A new Jagged Alliance is in development for DS by Strategy First Inc. and Cypron Studios. Aww, look at the fans lighting up! Look how they're doing that little happy dance around the room! Wasn't it worth it non-fans? Are you glad you stayed? If you're not familiar with JA, a turn-based tactical action game, it may not be a case of negligence on your part: There hasn't been a real iteration of the series since 1999. But, as we're sure the fans have already told you, it's worth tracking down. We know that Atari's publishing this new entry, but we don't have a release window (sorry, fans). But please, don't stop dancing, it's adorable.

  • Hope for long-lost Jagged Alliance DS?

Way back in 2005, Strategy First announced a DS version of Jagged Alliance 2 Gold, which became increasingly vaporous as time passed. Gamefly now lists a Jagged Alliance game coming October 9, from publisher Empire Interactive. It may be a sign of renewed life for the Pocket PC Studios-developed port, or it could be the work of a new development team to whom the rights were granted after prolonged inactivity.Jagged Alliance is a military strategy game series that originated on PC in 1994, involving player-controlled squads of mercenaries. Not only do the mercs have different skills, they interact differently with one another when teamed up. The player's actions lend a reputation that also affects the mercenaries' willingness to work.[Update: Eric pointed out that Strategy First officially cancelled all their projects. Either Empire has picked up the pieces or this is an unrelated project.]
