Microsoft is offering low-cost certifications to job seekers
Microsoft believes that one of the best ways to help the economy rebound and reduce the staggering rate of unemployment is to help workers learn new digital skills. The initiative will blend new and existing resources from LinkedIn, GitHub and Microsoft, and it will provide low-cost Microsoft Certifications. LinkedIn Learning “paths” aligned with tech roles like software developer, project manager, IT administrator and data analyst will be free of charge through the end of March 2021.
LinkedIn's new quizzes can prove you're not lying on your resume
Starting today, LinkedIn is rolling out Skills Assessment quizzes. The short, standardized tests will allow you to prove your knowledge of everything from coding languages to Photoshop and Microsoft Excel. If you score in the 70th percentile or above, you'll have the option to add a "verified skill" badge to your profile. The change, LinkedIn hopes, will benefit both job seekers and recruiters.
Lyft expands its free ride program to veterans and job-seekers
Last year starting with Hurricane Harvey in Houston, Lyft launched its "Relief Rides" program for folks caught in hurricanes and other emergencies. Now, the ride-sharing company has announced that it will start offering its services in non-emergency situations, too. It has committed $1.5 million to upgrade the program, giving returning veterans and low-income job-seekers access to rides for job interviews, medical visits and more.
