As proud members of the internet generation, we here at Engadget HD will never quite understand the desire to waste bandwidth on a channel like QVC HD, but we suppose the seniors are more apt to buy things they can actually see, right? Rambling aside, the point here is to inform you that six new high-def channels have dropped in Albany, just a month (and change) after Time Warner Cable announced that the region was now offering over 100 HD and On Demand options. The newcomers include FX HD (1829), Cartoon Network HD (1832), SPEED HD (1877), NY1 HD (1859), Golf HD (1865) and the infamous QVC HD (1822). We know which one you're tuning to first.[Thanks, Bradley]

After gifting Hampton Roads, Virginia with a few fresh high-definition channels in early November, the carrier has came bearing real gifts in December. Starting this week, users in the region will find 13 newcomers in beautiful HD, bringing the total to 47. The high-def additions are: Lifetime Network, Lifetime Movie Network, Hallmark Movie Channel, USA, MTV, CNBC, Nickelodeon, CMT, Sci-Fi, Spike, Bravo, VH1 and Planet Green. For whatever reason, Cox also threw in the SD version of Chiller, even though the HD version is more than accessible. At any rate, the company is also planning to serve up MLB Network beginning in the New Year, not to mention an undisclosed amount of new HD channels in 2009.

We knew the DTV transition would be good for the HD programming sector as a whole, but we had no idea it'd have such an immediate impact. In a move that's probably half coincidental, Comcast Oregon has produced documentation that shows a whopping 26 new high-def linear channels along with three HD pay-per-view stations to be added on February 25, 2009. We won't even bother listing 'em out given that the image above has already done us the favor, but we can almost guarantee the crowd favorite will be on slot 716.[Thanks, Brad]

The weather's getting pretty extreme up in Northeast Wisconsin right about now, so it's a perfect time for a new batch of HD stations to keep you cozy inside the house. As of this moment, users in the region should see USA HD (536), SciFi HD (562) and Travel HD (570), while Golf HD (525) and Versus HD (526) are expected to split into two stations come Monday. Also of note, Fox Cities TV has dug up a legal notice that hints at a number of other high-def stations coming soon; among them are: FX HD, LMN HD, Weather HD, Cinemax HD, Starz HD, Bravo HD, CNBC HD, Speed HD and Planet Green HD. Needless to say, it'd be a very merry holiday 'round these parts should that load show up in the near future. • Atlantic Broadband to lower cable rates, add HD channels

    12.04.2008

Be still our hearts! When practically every other cable operator out there is hiking rates up, Atlantic Broadband is bringing them down. In an admittedly shocking move, the small carrier has announced its plans to knock around $8 per month off of bills received by HD customers. Miraculously, it will also be adding three new HD channels -- History HD, FOX News HD and Science HD -- bringing the grand total to nearly 40 high-def channels. Of note, the pricing changes could leave a small amount of customers paying more, but the company has expressed its intentions to call those select few in an attempt to get them on a more cost efficient plan. Care to spread your services elsewhere, Atlantic?

    12.02.2008

So, what's it like being a Comcast subscriber in Jacksonville, Florida? You know -- to pay oodles of cash for a service and get high-def stations dropped on you in twos and threes rather than by the dozen? From the outside looking in, it's tough to say if the slow and steady approach is actually admired or loathed, but whatever your feelings on the matter, two more are headed to the Florida city. As of now, locals can find Cartoon Network HD and E! HD tucked away in the EPG, and if history is any judge, you will all be seeing a couple more in a month or two. Fingers crossed![Thanks, Matthew]

Hate to get you all riled up for nothing, San Diego, but Cox is dropping a whopping 19 new high-def channels in your area. Too bad every last one of them is simply an HD On Demand channel. The carrier is now touting that locals have 67 HD channels to flip through, which is factual per se, but hardly indicative of the actual situation. Ah well, VOD is better than zilch, we suppose.

If you're ready to be impressed, hop on past the break and scroll, scroll, scroll.[Thanks, Joshua]

Slow and steady wins the race, or so they say, but we're pretty sure San Diego residents are ready for Time Warner Cable to hurry up with these HD rollouts. After dropping two in late October and promising to get 10 to 15 newcomers on the air over the next little while, TWC has just pushed out two more to keep locals appeased. Effective immediately, subscribers in San Diego can find Hallmark Movie Channel HD and Big Ten Network HD, but there's no indication of when the others will follow suit. Patience, friends.[Thanks, Michael]

We'll give you precisely one guess as to which three HD channels Suddenlink has added in Muskogee, OK. Done searching? Try The Learning Channel HD (756), Discovery Channel HD (757) and Animal Planet HD (758) -- the same exact trio that it recently pushed to Lubbock, Texas and Arkansas. We had a hunch these three were in for a pretty big ride, so here's hoping even more Suddenlink regions see 'em in the not-too-distant future.

We're hearing that some folks now have a Coming Soon screen for a variety of HBO and Cinemax feeds, mostly derived from the west coast. Some of the mentions include 5MaxHD, WMaxHD, HBOFHW, HBOSHW, HBOCHW, HBOZHW, HBOLHW, MMAXHW, ACTMHW and TMAXHW. Anyone else seeing the same? Different?[Via U-Talk Forums, thanks Anthony]
