When it comes to holding the party down on an iPad or iPhone, djay by Algoriddim's been a front-runner ever since it came out. Then came vjay for video spinning iPad owners. Now, that video follow-up is ready for the main arena, as it's just been release for iPhone / iPod touch. Now you can mash-up your favorite videos right on your phone, add soundtracks to your existing clips, and throw down some effects for good measure. If you kinda dig what you create, you can -- of course -- share it with the world, or throw it up on the big screen. Not sure your cat clips will cut the mustard? Worry not, as there's purpose-made bundled content thrown in with the deal. And at just $0.99, it won't hurt the pocket it was built for, either.

The folks at Node Studios recently took the audio from the Total Recall (2012) movie trailer and set it to scenes from the Mass Effect trilogy. The result is legendary, and makes us yearn for either more Total Recall, or more Mass Effect.

Before Portal 2 there was Portal, and before Portal there was Super Mario Bros. Bring these together and you get a mushroom-chomping Italian plumber ruling the 2D world -- outside the cold confines of Aperture Science -- with the infamous Portal gun. The next logical step? Turn this into a first-person game. Go on, Reggie, make it happen.

  • Team Teamwork blasts the past with 'Super Nintendo Sega Genesis'

He's already turned the respective soundtracks to Final Fantasy VII and Ocarina of Time into sweeping, hip-hop masterpieces -- now video game mash-up specialist Team Teamwork has set his sights on more aged fare. Last night, he launched his latest album, the aptly titled "Super Nintendo Sega Genesis," which interested parties can now acquire on a Pay-What-You-Want basis. The album manages to take singles from artists like Kanye West, Ludacris, Childish Gambino and Ghostface Killah, and wraps them in a delicious layer of nostalgia-inducing themes from Mortal Kombat, Donkey Kong Country 2, Ristar and A Link to the Past. It may sound kitschy, but it's no joke -- the mash-up of "Shutterbug" and the theme to Super Metroid was so unbelievably fresh, we nearly fainted.

The problem with Pokemon is that it's pretty embarrassing to tell people you play it, especially if you're over the age of 13 -- just ask Griffin. They're great games, don't get us wrong. It's just that we're adults, with actual utility bills and Netflix memberships, and alive and breathing significant others. We can't risk losing all of that. That's why we want to draw your attention to this Call of Duty and Pokemon mash-up clip, available just past the break. By incorporating the two, we can maintain our adult facade, while enjoying the deep and robust RPG experience Nintendo's line of games offers without all the kiddie stuff. It's the best of both worlds!

  • Vinyl Fantasy 7 is the freshest thing you'll hear today

We love Nobuo Uematsu's work on the musical accompaniment for the Final Fantasy franchise, but we often find ourselves wishing those games' scores were infused with a touch of Jay-Z. Maybe a light smattering of Outkast. The faintest hint of Ghostface Killah. The mixologists from Team Teamwork (creators of the similarly-spliced Ocarina of Rhyme album) have once again worked their magic on a classic video game soundtrack. This time around, it's the score from Final Fantasy VII, which has been mashed together with tracks from over a dozen hip-hop artists, as well as Tom Waits, which is just weird. You can pay whatever you want to download the cleverly-titled Vinyl Fantasy 7 -- though we're betting you'll probably settle on zero dollars. [Thanks, Mike!]

  • Queen, Elite Beat Agents and Phoenix Wright make for a great combo

It's not often we're at a loss for words, but the potent combo of Queen's "Don't Stop Me Now," Elite Beat Agents and Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney is too much for our feeble little brain to handle. The gameplay looks incredibly punishing and, quite frankly, we wouldn't mind a few of Wright's cases going down like this. Instead of failing to describe this fan-made mash-up any better, we're just going to direct you past the break, then into the comments section where you can heap on some praise of your own. With the impending release of Smash Bros. Brawl, we've had franchises on the mind lately. This game is pretty much guaranteed to be the best cross-franchise game ever made, including tons of folk that normally wouldn't be anywhere near a first-party Nintendo game. Then, reader Chris sent in an email showing us his latest creation. It's a mash-up of Kirby and Travis Touchdown (you know, from that game we can't seem to stop talking about). It's quite a nice statue, if we may say so.Now that you have franchise mash-ups (we hope hope hope No More Heroes will become a franchise) on the mind, what other pairings would you like to see? Mario in a Star Fox game? Yoshi stuck in Silent Hill? What do you think?

The videomakers of Fatal Farm spoof another Garfield cartoon in the final segment of the Lasagna Cat series. What begins as a faithful retelling of an old -- dare we say, "classic" -- Garfield strip turns into a Final Fantasy riff. Sure, we've seen longer Final Fantasy homages, but this quick clip nails the brevity part of wit. Plus, it has Garfield.See the video after the break.

  • Machinima.com Beowulf trailer and mash-up contests

Are you over the age of 18 and live in the United States or Canada? Do you love to make movies using your favorite games? Fascinated with 8th century Old English epic poetry? Then you're in luck. Robert Zemeckis has a new movie coming out -- you'll never guess the title -- and he wants you to create the trailer for it. The movie itself is coming out on November 16th, so you have between now and November 4th to create your movie and submit it for judging. What I like about this particular contest sponsored on Machinima.com is the fact that included in the suggested methods for producing the movie is the use of footage from Lair. Now, I am not sure if this is just a ploy to sell more copies of a failed game, but I do know it's a cool idea. Beowulf itself looks to be made up of some sweet animation, so perhaps the use of footage from Lair isn't so far off from the look of the film. To be technical, there are two contests running here, one for a trailer and one for a mash-up. First prize for the mash-up is a $500 Best Buy gift certificate, while winner of the trailer contest will receive a $1000 Best Buy gift certificate. Pretty nice rewards, I must say. I would enter, but, well, I only watch movies, I don't know the first thing about making them.I realize that this isn't MMO news per-se, but it is news about machinima makers, and many of those play MMOs and may very well use their MMOs in creation of their Beowulf trailer. If you enter the contest, be sure to let Massively know so we can highlight your work.

The Smash Bros. Brawl fan-made videos keep getting better, like this trailer made by Carlos Maulén and posted by YouTube user spiderfalcox. The segment follows the style and soundtrack of the original Smash Bros. trailer but replaces the video track with retro sprites. The result is a cool mash-up of the characters, generally from the games in which they first appeared. While this was posted about two months ago, it's new to us and certainly worth a look if you missed it then. It's just like mid-Summer TV.[Thanks, Kye]

Our latest trip down the internet's (You) Tubes leaves us basking in the mash-up glory of JudgeSpear. This videomaker's page showcases dozens of game crossovers, with characters from different titles fighting, and even non-gaming characters get inserted into the action. While a little long, we especially like one of the shoot-'em-up crossovers, where a spaceship is piloted through several fighting games and even a GameBoy version of Super Mario Bros.If you're still not convinced, let this sway you: Mike Tyson makes an appearance near the end. • Today's franchise face-offiest game video: Bauer versus Riker

It's Riker versus Bauer in tonight's video pick. (What, you thought we'd post about that other video again?) Through the magic of editing -- and a rocking soundtrack -- these two leaders face off in a game of Street Fighter. Bauer uses his ability to multitask to get Gamefaqs tips, while beardless Riker has only his grimace and guile. This YTMND mash-up loops soon after it starts, but the quick editing is dense with detail; we laughed through several repetitions. The video isn't embedable, so you'll have to venture into the dangerous tubes beyond Joystiq. But be sure to come back to tell us what you think.
