  • Lyft cars are dropping the big, fuzzy mustache

Lyft likes to position itself as the cheery alternative to Uber's serious (and sometimes cutthroat) ridesharing service. However, that big, fuzzy mustache on the nose of the company's vehicles may be hurting more than it helps -- your business pals won't be impressed when you show up in a cartoonish car. To that end, Lyft tells Wired that it's scrapping the fake fur in favor of a dashboard-mounted glowing mustache (aka the "glowstache"). The more tasteful trinket is meant to preserve some of the company's signature whimsy (and help you spot your ride at a distance) without embarrassing you when the driver shows up. Also, it's more likely to hold up to real-world abuse. As you might have guessed, the original mustache doesn't look so hot after it's covered in street grime.

  • Warframe wants the Guinness record for virtual mustaches

From the any-press-is-good-press department, we have this ditty that mixes Warframe, facial hair, and Guinness World Records. The sci-fi title recently released a selection of virtual mustaches for players to equip on their in-game avatars, and now Digital Extremes seeks to put its name in the aforementioned record book under the "largest gathering of people wearing false mustaches simultaneously in a video game" heading. Nope, we're not making this up. As proof, you can peruse the company's press release just past the cut. [Source: Digital Extremes press release]

  • Hyperspace Beacon: We hope this never comes out of SWTOR, but knowing our luck, it probably will

When I started the Hyperspace Beacon, I didn't want every article to be a stoic look into the world of Star Wars: The Old Republic. Sometimes we need to kick back and have a little fun with the product that we love. We kind of earned it, right? Within the first couple months of articles, I examined the worst parts of the Star Wars games and movies and what is it that we hope to never see in TOR. That is when I wrote We hope this never makes it into SWTOR, but knowing our luck, it probably will. I speculated on not just what we didn't want to see in the game but how it would implemented. This week, I visit WHTNMIISWTORBKOLIPW again and ask about merchandising. There have been some horrific ideas that came out of the Star Wars franchise, and I don't just mean the changes in the Blue-Ray release. I shared a couple of these on Google+ this weekend. The Princess Leia Pizza Pringles has to be the worst. I didn't believe it myself until I saw the photographic evidence. We know that if SWTOR is hugely successful, Lucasfilm will certainly use that as an opportunity to capitalize on the game. Follow after the break for my leap into the world of TOR-vertizing. (OK, not everything works with TOR dropped in front of it.)

Sure, different color options and various designer patterns are all well and good, but what gadgets really need more of is moustaches. Thankfully, Flip has now stepped in to fill that void with no less than eleven different moustache designs for the month of Movember. Available on the Flip UltraHD, MinoHD and SlideHD (and in various capacities), the moustachio'd offerings include handsome options like The Professor and The Auteur (pictured above) and, best of all, Flip will donate $10 from each purchase to the Movember Foundation, which raises funds and awareness for men's health. Hit up the source link below to check out all the options available, and to place your order if you find one that suits your style.

  • Choose your own mustache

So there's this picture depicting many what-if Marios, and it's probably old. Maybe it's even old enough to be all Jesus riding a dinosaur old, but we don't care, because a reader sent it in and it's funny. In fact, it's especially funny due to the Mario-izing of avatars around these (Joystiq network) parts. This blogger has the sudden urge to slap a mustache on her own avatar, but it might get in the way of the teeth. We're particularly interested in any other serious 'staches you can come up with, however, or any creative way you can find to add a little facial hair to your pics. Also, if anyone happens to know who's behind this, we'd love to know. After all, "my neighbour" is one of the best of the lot, and we have the urge to find that guy and compliment his look.

  • Ugliest Luigi ever

Poor Luigi. The lanky plumber already has enough problems dealing with his older brother always stealing the spotlight and Princess Daisy's failure to commit to a serious relationship, but now he has to worry about embarassing photos from 20 years ago resurfacing on the internet. We all have our fair share of unflattering pictures from the 80s, but the images posted for this vintage Super Mario Bros. doll auction are downright embarassing. This 3.5'-tall toy was a promotional item from Nintendo that was never released to the general public. Head past the post break to see what the green guy looked like before he tamed his hair and trimmed his mustache. He really let himself go back then -- look at that hat![Via GameSniped]

The days of straining your hand whilst penciling in mustaches on photos are over! iStache automates one of the oldest prank known to man. It comes loaded up with a number of different mustaches that you can paste onto any photo that you load into the program and then save (see me sporting a new 'stache at right).iStache is free (though priceless).
