Never mind the iPhone, we wants us some N95! Actually, we desperately want both, but that's neither here nor there; point is we used CES as a killer opportunity to catch Nokia's next superphone au naturale. With S60 3rd Edition Feature Pack 1 (read: user-installed software, lots of third party support, and vibrant user community) and HSDPA shoring this sucker up, Nokia needn't be too worried that its latest and greatest models are gonna get pwn3d by Apple -- in the spec sheet department, at least. The dual slide action is trick, but it seems like it'd be easy to accidentally engage it in one direction or the other with the phone in your pocket. No bother; just throw in a set of Jabra BT8010's and we're good to go.

  • Nokia site shows Q2 '07 release for N95

The good news? Nokia's N95 product page on the official Nseries site is pretty thorough -- enough to give the Symbian lovers among us some in-depth reading material to hold us over for a bit. The bad news? Their device comparison chart now shows a second-quarter '07 release for the superphone, one quarter later than we were expecting. Of course, in this day and age, delays of this nature should never surprise us; if anything, we'd be surprised if a phone of this complexity were to actually arrive on time. But needless to say, the official N95 material on the site is most definitely not enough to bide our time for another four to seven months.[Thanks, festriaqua]

It might be a few months yet before we see Nokia N95s start to circulate amongst the general populace, but far be it from that to stop Nokialist from putting a preproduction unit through its paces. Other than a niggle about the d-pad -- the reviewer would've preferred a joystick, a la E70 -- the hands-on was overwhelming positive, despite the fact that the super-ultra-early test model in their hands lacked some hardware (GPS, WiFi) promised for the production version. As one might expect, the software (S60 3rd Edition Feature Pack 1, that is) is apparently the best thing since sliced bread, the dual slide is trick, the screen is gorgeous, and the 5 megapixel shooter is bananas. Sadly, about all the review has managed to do for us is make us want to lay our hands on this sucker a little more than we already did, but we're still in for a bit of a wait. Hang tight, folks.[Thanks, Phill]

  • Hands on with Nokia's "multimedia computer" behemoths

Sure, it wouldn't hurt if Nokia shaved a few grams and/or inches off a couple of these, but we got our hands on the new "Music Range" 8GB N91, the N75 which packs WCDMA and quite a bit of screen for a flip, and the utterly decked N95, and we can't say it was an unpleasant experience. Both the N75 and N95 were quite impressive in the LCD department, and the N95's sliding action couldn't be much smoother. Anyways, we know you're not here for our half-baked opinions, so go ahead and peep the pr0n after the break, we don't mind.

We're still struggling with a spat of fainting fits across the Engadget HQ, but that Nokia N95 pre-release info leak last night wasn't no hearsay. Nokia just dropped their complete fanboy specsheet of a S60 phone in the Nokia N95 today, including a 5 megapixel camera, integrated GPS, 802.11g WiFi, HSDPA, microSD, 150MB of internal memory and pretty much any other spec you could ever care to have stuffed into your phone by a Finnish "multimedia computer" manufacturer. The 2.6-inch QVGA screen should provide plenty of room to partake in all this specification glory, and there's a full-on 3.5mm audio jack to enjoy your multimedia in a convenient manner. Of course, that 550 euro pricetag ($700 US) wasn't no joke neither, but luckily we have until Q1 '07 -- that's when they're busting this thing out in Europe -- to get all practiced up on our petty thievery. Head on over to Engadget for the pr0n.

  • Nokia N95 gets real

So it's not official official yet, but we know enough to say with some confidence that Nokia's oft-rumored N95 (alias N83) dual slider will be announced today. What does that mean? For one thing, it means we can move past the frustratingly blurry spy shots and onto some glamorous press photos, but more importantly, it takes the guesswork out of the spec sheet. Let's just put it this way: for anyone who thought the N73 was a half-baked effort, the N93 oughtta fit the bill. Nokia seems to be challenging naysayers to find a missing feature or buzzword, cramming in a 5-megapixel cam, integrated GPS, 802.11g, a 3.5mm audio jack (if the A2DP support isn't your cup of tea), 150MB of internal memory, microSD expansion, and HSDPA support (a first for Nokia). Word on the street has the everything-to-everybody N95 dropping in Q1 of 2007 for around €550 -- that's about $700, just in case the possible US release actually goes down.[Thanks to everyone who sent this in]
