If you weren't able to get your hands on one of the 5,000 copies of the campy horror game, Night Trap, for the PS4 last August, fear not! Limited Run Games announced on Friday that it will be releasing the cult classic once again, this time for the Nintendo Switch.

If you're keen to get your hands on the remake of Night Trap, you'll have to be quick. To build on its cult standing, the campy horror game will only be available in a limited run when it lands tomorrow. Physical versions of the game will be restricted to 2,000 copies on PC, and 3,000 copies for the PS4. A collector's edition, housed in an individually-numbered throwback case, will launch the same day for Sony's console. Priced at $55, it will also include a bunch of retro goodies, including a cassette tape with the game's theme song. Considering an original Night Trap poster can net over $200 on eBay, it may be a worthwhile investment for fans. But, with just 3,000 copies available, you'll have to snap it up fast. Xbox players, on the other hand, will have to settle for a digital edition, expected later in the fall. Steam and the PlayStation store, however, will get the game on August 15.

Do you miss the days when full-motion video was the biggest deal in games? When just seeing a known actor in a cutscene was enough to work everyone into a frenzy? You're in luck. A couple of months later than promised, Screaming Villains and Limited Run Games have announced that Night Trap: 25th Anniversary Edition will arrive on August 11th. You'll have to buy a physical PS4 copy to play on day one, but digital releases will be available on PS4 and PC (via Steam) on August 15th. And don't worry, Xbox One owners -- you're getting a version too, although there's no release date just yet.

After 25 years, a browser port and a failed Kickstarter, cult classic FMV (full-motion video) game Night Trap is finally making its way back to living rooms. Thanks to the folks at developer Screaming Villains and publisher Limited Run Games, the interactive tale of teenage girls stuck in a house under attack by vampires will be released on disc sometime this spring for PlayStation 4.

There's a Night Trap fan group on Facebook. This isn't too surprising, considering Night Trap's storied past in the video game industry and its unabashed, nostalgic charm. It's a full-motion video game (FMV) -- meaning it stars real people, just like a live-action movie -- released in 1992 for the Sega CD and later ported to Sega 32X, 3DO, MS-DOS and Mac OS. Night Trap follows a group of young women at a slumber party that turns deadly when vampiric creatures show up, looking to feast on the girls' blood. Players, viewing the party via hidden cameras, attempt to trap the evil beasties and save the girls. For this unconventional premise, Night Trap holds a permanent seat in video game history alongside Doom and Mortal Kombat: These titles were partly responsible for the creation of the ESRB rating system, following a series of congressional hearings on "violent" video games in the early 1990s. Concerned groups accused Night Trap of encouraging kidnapping and featuring ultra-violent content, although compared with many modern, award-winning games, it's a truly tame experience. So, of course there's a Night Trap fan group on Facebook. It's precisely this Facebook group that Dave Voyles, a technical evangelist at Microsoft, turned to when he was seeking inspiration for his next programming project a few weeks back. Now, Voyles is knee-deep in Night Trap's code, reworking it to run in any browser for a new generation of fans to enjoy.

Where were you when Night Trap hit the senate floors? Our favorite watchdogs over at GamePolitics have compiled a list of what they believe to be the 10 biggest gaming scandals of all time. What's at the top of the list? Well, you decide that part via a nifty poll on their front page.Their list covers all your favorites from the Hot Coffee debacle to a more recent headline darling, Sony versus Parliament. They even managed to track down some stories that you may have have forgotten about such as 25 to Life's cop (and robber) killing and SimCopter's spit swapping dudes. Many folks have already pointed out the glaring omission of Mortal Kombat from their list. While we would have appreciated a choice that better reflected the creation of the ESRB, it's fair to say that Night Trap did most of the talking in that situation.

We'll admit it: the video in this week's spotlight is a bit of a stretch, but bear with us and we think you'll agree that it's simply perfect. With this week's controversy over Manhunt 2, our colleagues over at GayGamer decided to delve into the history of controversial games, and they've dubbed this Night Trap week. Night Trap was an FMV-based game starring Dana Plato that is infamous for its overacting and horrible scenes. No, wait ... that's just our opinion now. At the time, Night Trap was considered sexist, ultra-violent, and downright shameful. My, how far we've come. Night Trap seems far less horrific than the slasher films we grew up watching, and these days, this sort of "violence" would be considered laughable in games. Check out this little slice of history after the jump.

Brash Entertainment says that they're looking to change the way that movie-license games are made, and one of the first IPs getting the treatment will be the Saw franchise, GameDaily BIZ reported today. There's no word on what sort of game the horror series will inspire, but we've got our fingers crossed for some hybrid of Deception and Night Trap.Brash says that they've got 12 other games in development and 40 licenses under their belt. They're not exactly just a bunch of upstarts either, with $400 million in funding to play with. So, their attempt at Saw either represents the start of something great or the opening salvo in a crapstorm. Let's hope it's the former.

Not many people know this, but before Joystiq was scooped up by our overlords at AOL (A Time Warner company!), head honcho Chris Grant actually owned the URL. A dedicated shrine to the Full Motion Video games of the past, a younger, less sleep-deprived Chris spent every waking moment of his life chronicling what he considered to be the second renaissance of modern video games. Though long gone, we here at Joystiq try and honor our history at every opportunity. Even if it does give us nightmares. In a video not suitable for work or family viewing, EGM's Shane Bettenhausen and Crispin Boyer team up with lovable heckler Seanbaby to play two icons of FMV gaming: Night Trap and Snow Job. Better at the former than he is Soul Calibur III, Shane impresses the crew with his incredible Auger snatching skills that must be seen to be believed. Catch the video after the break and be thankful you live in this modern age of the Internet and cell phones.
