  • Forum Post of the Day: Stupid little wishes

I found this post hiding away in the suggestions forum listing players "stupid little wishes" -- minor (some VERY minor) changes to the game that they'd like to see in the future. Top of the list and a personal favorite is "I wish my guild tabard wasn't tucked into my robe." (What can I say, I've always thought that looked sort of silly.) Do you have your own list of Warcraft's little annoyances? Perhaps you should add them to the thread and we'll see if any of them get changed in the long run. (Not that I'm saying it's likely, but anything is possible!)

Not familiar with the Bloodsail Buccaneers? Well, for those of you out of the loop, the Bloodsails are pirates, and mortal enemies to the goblins of Booty Bay. Some inhabitants of Azeroth have chosen to pursue a pirates' life -- but many become discouraged when they realize they've given up access to all goblin cities and questgivers. So it's no surprise that the Bloodsails have banded together to demand more recognition and benefits befiting their status. Yarr, mateys!

  • Forum Post of the Day: Beauty tips for the living impaired

You've got to feel sorry for the undead. It must be terribly difficult to cope with rotting flesh and bones jutting out everywhere. Fortunately for them, though, Faine on the EU forums has stepped up to help her fellow undead with an excellent array of beauty tips. (It's worth reading throughout the thread to catch questions asked and Faine's excellent replies.) However, even though I'm sure you're going to click the link and read it yourself, I can't help highlighting this excellent post by Faine herself.Dear reader, There's no shame in asking how we get that beautiful crimson tint to our lips. The answer is quite simple, really; I always carry a handkerchief and a little mirror with me. That, and I don't actually wear lipstick. You see, after I've eaten one of those delicious nightelven corpses, my face is usually entirely covered in blood. That's why I simply use my hand-mirror and my handkerchief to wipe away all the blood that isn't on my lips, returning that pretty crimson color. Of course, blood does get old, at which time it grows a flaky brown. The only solution I've found sofar is to eat alliance people on a regular basis so that I can give my lips that fresh coat of blood that I need to look my prettiest. Does that answer your question? So, as you can see, if you have any pressing questions about undeath, Faine is the one to ask.Update: Sorry, folks, but this post is on the EU forums which means only EU players can add to the comments! Still plenty of entertainment to be had in reading it, however.

  • Forum Post of the Day: Where's the flavor?

This thread brings up an interesting point about the minute differences between the various races. As far as gameplay goes, rarely is there any significant advantage to playing one race over another. So where is the flavor? Shouldn't the different races have a different feel to them -- beyond different skin textures and flirts? Priests get special class abilities based on their race, so why not expand the idea to the other classes, and give each racial option a unique feel? I would personally argue that the priest racial abilities are a complete failure, with several very powerful abilities and many useless or nearly useless abilities, causing constant conflict within the class. But that's not to say the concept is flawed, just that any such abilities would have to be very carefully considered.

Normally, I wouldn't take a second glance at a post with a title like this. However, the little Blizzard icon next to it, indicating a response from a Blizzard employee, compelled me to investigate further. And, if you're in need of a good laugh, perhaps you should take a look at Eyonix's explanation of how many World of Warcraft forum posters it takes to change a light bulb: 1 to change the light bulb and to post that the light bulb has been changed 6 to share that they were the first to read and respond to the light bulb being changed 5 to convey disatisfaction for failing to be the first to read and respond to the light bulb being changed 14 to share similar experiences of changing light bulbs and how the light bulb could have been changed differently 7 to caution about the dangers of changing light bulbs 7 to point out spelling/grammar errors in posts about changing light bulbs 5 to flame the spell checkers 3 to correct spelling/grammar flames 6 to argue over whether it's "lightbulb" or "light bulb" ... another 6 to condemn those 6 as stupid 2 proclaimed industry professionals to inform the group that the proper term is "lamp" 15 who claim that they were previously in the industry, and that "light bulb" is perfectly correct 19 to post that this forum is not about light bulbs and to please take this discussion to a lightbulb forum 11 to defend the posting to this forum saying that we all use light bulbs and therefore the posts are relevant to this forum 36 to debate which method of changing light bulbs is superior, where to buy the best light bulbs, what brand of light bulbs work best for this technique and what brands are faulty 7 to post URL's where one can see examples of different light bulbs 4 to post that the URL's were posted incorrectly and then post the corrected URL's 3 to post about links they found from the URL's that are relevant to this group which makes light bulbs relevant to this group 4 to discuss how Paladins need to be fixed 5 to post to the group that they will no longer post because they cannot handle the light bulb controversy 13 to say "do a Google search on light bulbs before posting questions about light bulbs" 1 to respond to the original post 6 months later to start it all over again.

  • Are you a candy corn?

Visited the forums lately? If so you may have noticed something a bit odd -- namely, that everyone's avatars have been changed to candy corn. Human, Tauren, Gnome... all are united by the candy corn! And while the forums now rage with debates about non-epic candy corn (they're not very purple, are they?), it may just be Blizzard's way of wishing you a happy and candy-filled holiday.

  • New Forums Up, Old Forums Down

While the shiny new beta forums are up and running, the old forums - with all their sticky posts and archived information - are offline.  Drysc claims they're offline due to an unrelated issue and should be coming back, though the continued downtime is the longest in recent memory (starting late Thursday night).  In the mean-time, conspiracy theorists speculate that the old forums have been pulled down to force players to test the new forums.  However, while we're waiting for the old forums to rise from the dead, the beta forums do provide a source of entertainment, and in some cases information, as the same questions get asked and answered.

Blizzard has unveiled a new version of their forum software, with a lot more sparkle than the previous version.  While it's unclear as to what new hardware or software supports these forums, their intent is to provide a more stable and robust forum system for us all.  One thing that stands out is the new search function, which, while still quirky, is far and away an improvement on the former search function.  So check them out, and let Blizzard know what you think of the changes.
