We've all seen the complaints about .Mac from every corner of the internets. Our own Dave Caolo posted a fantastic editorial covering .Mac's slow death, but he isn't the only one tossing a vote into the hat. One only needs to browse the digg archives to find plenty of posts from dissatisfied mom and pop bloggers, but even bigger names in the Mac community like Steven Frank of Panic (Transmit, CandyBar) have voiced their .Mac gripes, with plenty of others developing their own .Mac alternatives. While blogging about these topics can be a good thing, I had the idea this weekend that maybe we can do something a little more in the form of mass feedback and a petition. Our fearless leader Scott noted that online petitions don't often seem to have much impact, but I've always been a fan of at least trying to stand up and be heard. With that said, TUAW would like to introduce what we call a piece of 'viral feedback' for .Mac. The idea here is that you can copy and paste the statement below (after the jump) into the .Mac feedback form. Feel free to edit and tweak it to your desires. Credit TUAW or not. Whatever you do, just be sure to click send and tell a friend. Also, don't forget to play fair - don't click send 300 times, and keep the criticism clean. Online viral feedback petitions may not get very far, but darnit - it's fun to try. Click on to get your copy of the petition and submit it to .Mac.

This one wants Microsoft to extend the warranty. They're also asking people to file complaints with the Better Business Bureau if your box crapped out in 3 months and a day.

Petitions can be a very powerful tool. If enough of the target audience signs one, things can happen. That is exactly what some people are trying to do with these following petitions. They are designed to show studios that they want to view their libraries of titles on HD DVDs. If these reach enough people, they might just do the trick. We do have to note that HDBeat is not taking any specific side on this war though (I have however), but if this is your kind of thing, you might want to go sign your John Hancock - digitally that is.Studio Petitions Lions Gate Fox Disney MGM Pictures

  • In-game Petition System Unavailable?

If you've logged in to the game this afternoon (US realms), you've probably seen the regular messages showing up in your chat window explaining that the in-game petition system will be unavailable between 10:30AM and 1:30PM PDT. In case you managed to miss those, a message box also pops up whenever you zone in or out of an instance saying "GM Help Tickets are currently unavailable" and requiring you to click OK to make it go away. I do wonder what sort of issue would require them to take the in-game customer support system offline, but at least it's not during peak hours. If you're having problems before the system reappears, the customer service forum usually has a fairly good turnaround time.

  • Chattanooga gets its Super Bowl in HD!

We mentioned earlier that a few Comcast subscribers in Tennessee had a petition asking for an agreement between WTVC and the cable provider to get the Super Bowl in high definition on cable. Now it appears they will get what they're asking for; the two companies have worked out a one year agreement that will get service on in time for the game.No mention as to whether or not the petition had an effect, but the people have definitely spoken.
