Q-Games' wildly colorful and inherently trippy PSN title, Pixeljunk Eden, has been confirmed for a July 31 release on both the US and Japanese PlayStation Network. The downloadable game, which has captured plenty of attention thanks to a unique art style and mellow gameplay, is the third 2D game in the popular PixelJunk series. %Gallery-26872%

Wait ... isn't that LocoRoco Cocoreccho? Nope, it's the latest model in the PixelJunk line from Q-Games, PixelJunk Eden. It just so happens that this new video of the game's multiplayer shows two little ... things hopping around and swinging from leaves, limbs, and the like. The "goal" of the game is to collect pollen and make the flora grow – and, as this footage has proven, totally mellow us out. It remains without a firm launch date, but Q-Games has previously alluded to a summer release for this PlayStation Network title.

1UP's preview of the upcoming PixelJunk Eden is most curious. The strange title may be hard to grasp from videos, but according to their preview, all is clear within minutes of picking up the controller. With the wildly successful PixelJunk Monsters under its belt, all eyes must be on Q-Games' latest. It being the first new title to support Trophies will undoubtedly make it even more addictive. The combination of alluring visuals, yet another fantastic soundtrack, and simple and addictive gameplay make us want to download PixelJunk Eden as soon as possible. %Gallery-22823%

If you're curious about what's going on with Q-Games and the PixelJunk franchise, we've located a little bit of news to satisfy your 2D urges. First up -- PixelJunk Eden is to get a playable demo in July. This is coming from Dylan Cuthbert's mouth (well, technically, keyboard), so take it as official. Cuthbert wants everyone to experience the game before its final release, which is a nice gesture.A second piece of information was the YouTube uploading feature, which isn't anything new, but still very cool. Finally, Cuthbert wants to do one more small, free patch to PixelJunk Monsters. He's requesting what you would like to see in the patch, so let him know. Our idea? A hint on how to best approach each level would be dandy.

Japanese site Watch Impress has a new batch of screenshots showing more of the gorgeous art style of upcoming PSN game PixelJunk Eden. Not only that, but they include a few exciting tid bits of info regarding the game. Specifically, they mention that the soundtrack consists of almost 100 minutes of specially recorded music by Kyoto-based artist Baiyon. The game will also include 3-player co-op play (no online, presumbly) as well as trophies and remote play support. Perhaps most intriguing, however, is the mention of screen recording and YouTube uploading compatibility. This was recently added to the PS3 SDK but we didn't expect to see it integrated into new games so quickly. PixelJunk Eden comes out sometime this Summer and you can bet your bottom dollar we'll be grabbing it day one. Will you?[Via Blu-ray.com forum]%Gallery-22823%

No doubt you've seen the incredibly pretty screenshots of PixelJunk Eden -- and they do look gorgeous -- but how exactly does one play the game? In the latest PlayStation Blog post, Jeff Rubenstein (that bloke gets everywhere these days) has a natter with two of the producers for the game who guide him through a couple of levels. Together they prove that PixelJunk Eden isn't just a pretty face, the gameplay looks quite excellent too. The game is due out this Summer and this video has us hyped for it. The PixelJunk series looks to get better and better as the games progress. Is it too early to be excited about finding out what PixelJunk Dungeon will be like?

Update: Apparently some readers had the video auto-playing and nobody likes that. We've now placed it after the break. The PlayStation Blog has put together a really good great video that clears up a lot of confusion about what the gameplay in PixelJunk Eden, which should be released this summer, is actually going to be like. PS Blog's Jeff Rubinstein starts off by speaking with producers Deb Mars and Matt Morton a little bit about the game (and they give tiny canned presentations), but then it gets good with the walkthrough of the title. The gameplay walkthrough actually kicks off about 1:30 into the relatively unedited video and it definitely gets us excited for the PSN game. We certainly hope to see more videos from Sony in the future that take this casual approach to presentation and demonstration on the site. Gallery: PixelJunk Eden

  • PixelJunk news tomorrow: it's supposed to be special

It would seem that Q Games has e-mailed TheSixthAxis about an upcoming PixelJunk announcement tomorrow on the PlayStation Blog. Dylan said it was going to be something "quite special", but any other details are scarce. Chances are it's a release date for PixelJunk Eden, or the announcement of their fourth title (which may be named PixelJunk Dungeon as it is a dungeon crawler, if memory serves). Either way, we'll keep looking tomorrow for the announcement.

The PSN's conquest to be home of the quirkiest downloadable titles continues. flow may have mesmerized audiences, but Q-Games is trying their own hand at something really new. PixelJunk Eden, the next title in the PSN downloadable collection, is a rather strange platformer to describe. Players control a small creature called a "Grimp" (formed from the combination of "grip" and "jump") to explore a variety of constantly changing scenes. By smashing into enemies, players release pollen that can help the plants grow and transform. As players develop, they'll be able to leap, swing, jump and soar higher than ever, trying to get all the energy and light from a level before time runs out. There will be ten stages in all, rendered in full 1080p HD graphics. Music will come from an award-winning Japanese artist, Baiyon. Both rumble and tilt will be supported in the DualShock 3 controller, and online trophies and leaderboards will be available. Finally, PSP Remote Play will also be included, a feature also found in PixelJunk Monsters. %Gallery-22823%

  • PixelJunk Eden featuring Trophy support

Several of PixelJunk Eden's details are on display over at the official PlayStation website. This is cool since we know very little about the game other than its artsy approach. The game will feature 3-player co-op and will get a release this summer, but that's not exactly the most interesting ingredient in this pie. What we find most delicious is the listing of "Trophy support" -- an element being utilized in Home. Anyway, the rest of the information is gameplay-related that we've mentioned before: swing around, collect pollen, advance.[via IGN]

Click for high resolution image. After the release of the hugely successful PixelJunk Monsters (and subsequent Encore expansion), all eyes are on Q-Games' next PSN downloadable titles. Eden is up next, and once again we're lured in by its impeccable visual presentation. We don't really know how it'll play: we do know that it involves flowers, the SIXAXIS, and physics in some way -- making this a rather different affair than Q-Games' PixelJunk Racers and Monsters.%Gallery-22823%

  • Q-Games reveals 'PixelJunk Eden,' hints at future titles

In closing his GDC post-mortem on the PlayStation Network's PixelJunk games, Q-Games president Dylan Cuthbert briefly showed off the next game in the series of downloadable, 2D titles. PixelJunk Eden comes across as being far more experimental than the independent developer's previous titles, boasting psychedelic visuals, an electronic soundtrack and swinging, ball-based platforming. We're quite sure we haven't written a description like that in quite some time. Eden started development in June 2007, and Cuthbert told us that he expects it to arrive on PSN sometime "before Summer." Also mentioned but never elaborated on was PixelJunk Dungeons, the fourth title in the series which Cuthbert assured us would, in fact, feature dungeons of some kind. Finally, the presentation revealed that Q-Games would eventually focus its efforts on 3D gaming in a second series of PixelJunk. We'll bring you a full report on the PixelJunk postmortem (and forthcoming games) soon.

It's at this point that we truly forgive Q-Games for the travesty that was PixelJunk Racers. PixelJunk Monsters had an awesome graphic style to it, not to mention its rock solid (and rock hard) gameplay and now the latest game in the series, PixelJunk Eden looks to follow suit. The aesthetic quality (or, at least, what we can see of it from the low-res video above) looks like something you'd see on the cover of a Computer Arts magazine. Don't worry, that's a good thing, in our opinion.Gameplay-wise, the video keeps its cards close to its chest. It's clearly a physics based inertia and momentum simulator that requires you to navigate a constantly morphing landscape in order to collect various items littering the environment. Sounds fairly simple, but hopefully Q-Games will be working their magic and putting some depth into the game. We're looking forward to seeing how this one develops and we simply can't wait until we get our hands on some high-def screenshots. That art style is hypnotic.
