  • Free apps on President's Day: Judge Dredd, MadPad HD, lots more

Most of the President's Day App Sales we posted last week are still going on today, so if you didn't grab one of those games or apps yet, you might want to think about doing so while the holiday weekend is still on. But there are also a number of other sales that have popped up over the weekend, so here are a few more: Lots of apps have gone free, including Judge Dredd vs. Zombies, Smule's MadPad HD music creator, Alone in the Gloom, and the location photography app Aroundly. Rolling physics-based puzzle platformer Jungool is free. Beat Hazard Ultra, which has some good buzz behind it lately, is down to just a buck. Blind World is an older puzzle game with a really interesting style that is free right now. Winzer, the port of the old Amiga wine business simulator game, is also free today. Action platformer Speed Blazers is $1.99. The Rampage-esque Big Bot Smash is free right now as well. Those polygons, though -- they hurt my eyes a little bit. Trenches 2 for iPad is just a buck, quite a deal for a game with all that content. Night of the Living Dead Defense is also just a dollar. Freezing Birds is an interesting little match-3 game that's free today. Finally, hidden object puzzle game Treasure Seekers: Visions of Gold is free on both HD and the original iPhone versions. So there's a few more options for you. So many great apps for cheap or free out there these days -- if you don't have something to play with or use on iOS, you're not looking hard enough!

We just had a round of App Store sales, but Monday's bringing another holiday with Presidents Day. Developers are putting even more apps on sale yet again. Here's a look at what's cheap (or even free) this holiday weekend: Match 3 Battle Harvest has gone free. All of Origin8's Sentinel tower defense titles are on sale, good stuff if you haven't played them yet. EA's iPhone version of Dead Space is down to just a buck. So is Kairosoft's Grand Prix Story racing team simulator. Grand Theft Auto 3 is just a dollar -- do not pass this one up at that price. Touch Arcade has a good number of free shooters listed, if that's your thing. Gameloft has quite a few titles on sale or free, including Uno, Eternal Legacy, The Settlers, and more. Tiny Token Empires is free, as is Little Milano. All of Mumbojumbo's titles are on sale for just a buck. The acclaimed RPG Silversword is down to $1.99. Monsters & Bones is free. So there you go, something to play this weekend while you're ... remembering our former presidents? Enjoy!

Good news: Just for President's Day, Activision is unlocking Call of Duty: Black Ops' two secret modes: Dead Ops Arcade, the top-down dual-stick shooter hidden in a DOS emulator, and the Presidential zombie fight known as "Five" that's unlocked upon completion of the single-player campaign. They'll remain unlocked throughout the weekend -- free of charge -- so get 'em before they return to Easter Egg status.

  • Fourscore and seven levels ago: SOE celebrates President's Day with special in-game bonuses

President's Day may not be the most exciting holiday in the States (or even relevant to those outside of it), but SOE has decided to do it justice with a President's Day Event that's sweeping across many of its titles. As John F. Kennedy once said, "Ask not what you can do for your MMO, but what your MMO can do for you!" EverQuest and EverQuest II players will both enjoy a double XP weekend starting today, February 18th, which will give a huge boost to levels gained during that period. EQ's boost will last through the 21st but is sadly not applicable to the new progression servers. In EQII, this XP bonus affects adventure, trade, and AA, and it will last through the 22nd. Star Wars Galaxies is running its Bonus Everything Weekend from the 17th through the 22nd. This will greatly increase XP, tokens, Pet XP, Chronicles XP, Restuss Commendations, and fish caught, to name just a few of the bonuses. Vanguard's also joining the party, as crafting, adventuring and diplomacy XP will all get a shot in the arm over the weekend. SOE's also running a sale on existing and new items in several of its games, including Free Realms and Clone Wars Adventures. This may just be the weekend to splurge on that vanity item you've been eyeing! [Thanks Karen!]

  • EverQuest launches second progression server due to popular demand

Everyone's talking about the new progression server that launched yesterday in EverQuest -- and it seems that so many people are trying to play on it that they've outstripped its capacity. Players have reported that Fippy Darkpaw, a special server that's rolling out EQ's expansions at a measured pace, has been crushed by the crowds trying to log in. As a result, Sony Online Entertainment decided to create a second time-locked progression server named after the game's infamous dragon Vulak'Aerr. According to the company, the server went online today. This should help relieve the stress on poor ol' Fippy. If you're curious about what a progression server entails, SOE's set up a helpful FAQ to clarify the details. Players on EverQuest's other servers shouldn't feel left out of the celebrations, as they'll be enjoying a double XP weekend from February 18th through the 21st. It is important to note that this XP bonus will not apply to the new progression servers. During the same weekend, SOE is marking down a number of items in the Marketplace for a President's Day sale. You can read more on this special weekend over at EverQuest Players.

Sure, Washington had his dentures, Lincoln his ironclads and Jefferson his swivel chair, but what kind of kit would they be messing around with in 2007? In search of answers based on broad and most likely mis-guided and / or offensive stereotypes, we bring you the following list. Feel free to rip it to shreds in the comments, just make sure to keep it patriotic -- Big Brother is watching. Micro Center is whipping out the impressive Xbox 360 deals again with their President's Day sale. As reported by our sister site Xbox 360 Fanboy, a wireless controller for $20 is a great deal. The best investment on the flyer is certainly the Quick Charge Kit -- although the fanboys don't recommend the Intercooler. The sale is only this Monday, so if you've got a Micro Center in your area, these really are some pretty sweet deals.
