Ubisoft released some character art for their new gen Prince of Persia game. Since the Two Thrones wrapped up the previous storyline, this will be an all new start for the Prince. The image itself comes from Xbox World 360 magazine's recent preview, which suggests that the gauntlet that the Prince is donning could come into play in the game. Whether it does or not, it still looks a lot like Hellboy's Right Hand of Doom. But on the left hand, as Prince appears to have a dagger (of time?) in his right. What would you like in a 360 Prince of Persia game?

  • Behold: concept art for the Prince of Persia movie

ComingSoon has posted new images and concept art for several upcoming Disney films, almost all of which are likely to be adapted into stunningly derivative and altogether depressing video games. One of the movies, however, signifies the reverse situation of having been a game first -- a very good one, in fact. The cinematic adaptation of Ubisoft's acrobatically inclined Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time, will be produced by Jerry "Needs More Splosions" Bruckheimer. Check out some of the early concept images of the film while you agonize over the many ways in which Jerry can bring the franchise to ruin. Vin Diesel as the Prince? Explosive carriage chases? A soundtrack featuring Usher? A dark and angsty MySpace reimagining that has the protagonist fighting scantily clad warrior women? Wait, that last one sounds familiar somehow...%Gallery-1859%[Image credit: ComingSoon]

If you're one who hates to see spoilers, then this post isn't for you as the embedded video, which is available past the post break, takes us through the entire first level in the upcoming Prince of Persia: Rival Swords. A tutorial level, throughout you'll be introduced on how speed-killing works (you've already seen that though) and also shows us how to work the camera when jumping about the environment. Personally, this trailer has us pumped for the game.

  • RUMOR: Prince of Persia concept art leaked

If you've been following the Prince's adventures in the Prince of Persia trilogy consisting of the Sands of Time, Warrior Within, and The Two Thrones, you know full well that the Prince we knew has finished his journey and when the next game is released, he will be the hero formerly known as Prince. Apparently, an Ubisoft leak distributed a piece of concept art on the next-gen Prince of Persia adventure and it looks like a return to the middle-eastern roots of, uh, Persia. We guess. There's an armored gauntlet involved (which will probably act a bit like Nero's gauntlet in Devil May Cry 4) and a new love interest who, as GamesRadar puts it, "look(s) somewhere in the region of rather foxy." We know there's a film planned or in production or whatever, so maybe this game is really based off of that movie? The film doesn't draw from previous titles, rather, uses the franchise as a base to create an all-new story. It makes sense, but we'll keep an eye out for any more information.

  • Prince of Persia could be Disney's next 'Pirates' film franchise

Murmurs of a Jerry Bruckheimer produced Prince of Persia film have resurfaced, buzzing about Bruckheimer and Disney working to mold Ubisoft's game franchise into a successor to the Pirates of the Caribbean trilogy; set to conclude in May. One source even speculates that the Prince could hit the big screen as early as summer 2008.When Bruckheimer and company first seized the Prince of Persia film rights in 2004, the goal was to adapt elements of the game world, rather than directly translate 2003's The Sands of Time. It's unclear if that direction has since changed, as the game series has evolved into a port-able trilogy.

Over at AMN, they got their hands on a new trailer for Prince of Persia: Rival Swords. The trailer comes in at about a minute long and has Ubisoft Producer Ben Maddis (could be a misspelling of his name, we're going from audio) showing us the subtle differences between the speed killing controls for both the Dark Prince and regular Prince. From the looks of it, not much has changed in transitioning over to the Wii, aside from the controls. You can check out the trailer here.

The first footage for Prince of Persia: Rival Swords has finally been revealed, showcasing the exact Wiimote movements one will need to perform in order to make the Prince do the things he does oh so well. Actually, the presentation makes the proposed experience on the Wii look superior to the Prince's past treks. As usual, the video has been embedded past the post break.

  • Prince of Persia's Wii Waggle-Tech Demonstrated

Ubisoft, intent on continuing their new tradition of shoehorning just about every intellectual property they can muster onto the Wii, has created a video demonstrating Prince of Persia: Rival Swords' use of the Wii controls. In an interview with Ubisoft concerning the project ("intuitive" word count: 2), producer Ben Mattes gushed with excitement, saying "I've spent a lot of time playing [Prince of Persia] games over the last few years, and Rival Swords for the Wii is by far my favorite."The demonstration itself is a montage of in-game clips, accompanied by haunted Wii controllers jiggling about the footage. I suppose we'll just have to wait until the games release in March to get a sense of just how well it plays as waggling the controller in place of the Two Thrones control scheme (the game in which this is based on) doesn't exactly instill us with confidence. Ben seems fairly stoked about it, but Splinter Cell and Far Cry has us a bit more cautious towards Ubisoft's non-original offerings for the Wii.

  • Rival Swords: Wii Prince of Persia has a new name, but same game

Ubisoft's betting you're familiar with 2005's Prince of Persia: The Two Thrones. So the publisher has cleverly tweaked the name for its Wii release. Now it's Prince of Persia: Rival Swords. But wait ... it's got Wii controls! Lame. It's clear that Ubisoft is testing the waters, seemingly asking itself: how little is enough to succeed on Wii? Indeed, why waste development costs on new content when you can dig yesteryear's game outta the crate, tack on some wrist-flicking action, and push it back out to retail? True, Rival Swords has multiplayer modes and new quick-play levels (confirmed for PSP version); but let's not kid ourselves, this is Two Thrones all over again.Ubisoft isn't the first company to re-release a product with some new features, but the name change certainly feels deceptive; and in general, offerings like Rival Swords look to water down Wii's potency. The console's strength is not in finding new ways to play the same old games.

There are new shots floating around from the upcoming Prince of Persia title slated for the Wii that show some of the controller movements. Though we knew a little about how the Wiimote and nunchuk were going to handle the action, it's nice to have a visual to shape some sort of foundation for what we're going to be doing next spring. Check out the screens after the jump.

At the end of the Montreal Internation Game Summit, Joystiq checked out the offices of many Montreal gaming studios. While checking out Ubisoft Montreal, Joystiq spoke with CEO Yannis Mallat about the upcoming Wii installment in the Prince of Persia franchise.Turns out, the Wiimote will be used to handle jumping and other duties, while the nunchuk was used to toss the Prince's chain around. The game is still in the earlier stages of development, so one should assume that both the controls could change and a CEO of the company in charge of the game is hardly the objective source one should fully trust.

Tara Strong, voice of Final Fantasy X's Rikku, joins a surprisingly strong voice acting cast for the upcoming PSP RPG Gurumin. Other VAs include Amber Hood (Psychonauts), Dee Bradley (Viewtiful Joe), Kim Mai Guest (Metal Gear Solid), Robin Atkin Downes (Prince of Persia), and more. The voice acting will be directed by Kris Zimmerman, the voice director of all the Metal Gear Solid games (all of which feature excellent voice acting). It's great to see a PSP RPG finally get some solid voice acting. We've had way too many quests with minimal voice acting-- hopefully, publisher Mastiff sets a standard for all PSP RPGs to come. We'll have more on the ultra-cute Gurumin in the future.[Via GameDaily]

The angsty Prince is back in a new game entitled Prince of Persia: Rival Swords. Like Revelations before it, Rival Swords is essentially an enhanced port of a PoP console game. Rival Swords takes the gameplay from last year's critically acclaimed The Two Thrones and adds new levels and multiplayer modes. For example, you will be able to race through levels against a friend, or play through new chariot levels and re-enact your favorite scene from Ben-Hur. The game will hit Holiday 2006 in Europe, and then hit American shores in 2007.Should we get excited? I'm a bit doubtful on this one. Revelations met critical disapproval due to its high number of glitches and ridiculous loading times, and the same developer (Pipeworks Software) is working on this port. They might be able to work out the bugs this time around, but with so many original games heading to the system soon, a port can't really grab my attention.[Via IGN]

  • Ubisoft's Assassin's Creed's engine's... being used later?

It's obvious. Ubisoft, you aren't fooling anyone! Looking at the screens for Assassin's Creed and the dramatic camera angles... you're going to use this "Scimitar Engine" for the next Prince of Persia title, aren't you? Admit it! All right, so they won't talk. But the rumor still remains -- Ubisoft is working on another title for next-gen systems after they wrap up Assassin's Creed, using the engine created for the aforementioned game. Could any other game by Ubisoft match the style of play shown to us by their current project? Anyone who has played Prince of Persia: The Two Thrones knows the team had fiddled with stealth killing, a possible lead-in to AC. But what next? Nothing yet, but we'll keep you posted on this (the team will announce the game next year... so... not too far off).

After last week's French slip that Prince of Persia will be making an appearance on the Wii, the company has now confirmed -- in English -- that the game is in fact coming to the console.A spokesperson for Ubisoft told IGN that PoP will be a Wii title: "I can confirm that a game based on the popular Prince of Persia franchise is one of many titles Ubisoft has in development for Nintendo's Wii. At this time we can not provide an official date for the game or any additional information about it."There, glad that that's settled. Let the Wiimote use speculation commence.[Thanks, Davis and Hank]

Apparently, only the French are special enough to get the news that among the other Ubisoft titles announced to hit the Wii console, Prince of Persia will as well.French gaming site Jeuxpro.com lists that PoP will join the other titles announced earlier to us English-speaking folks. If there was ever a game that could take advantage of the Wii controller, this is it. While the game won't be a launch title, the site does say that it will be out sometime in March. But wait a second, did the French make a boo boo? 1Up says a rep told them: "We saw this too and Prince of Persia is not confirmed as either a Wii launch title or a title coming out in North America in March 2007 at this time."We may have to chalk this one up to the usual PR slip up. It would be pretty silly not to expect PoP on the Wii, though.[Thanks, Easy G and Zelda Master]

Your backstabbing dreams have come true. Two sources -- Xboxygen and Club Skill if you must know -- have reported that Ubisoft has officially confirmed Assassin's Creed for both 360 and the PC. While most of us have suspected this anyway, especially given Ubisoft's penchant for cross-platform releases, it's nice to get some official word. It's not all sunshine and lollipops though: Ubisoft still hasn't mentioned whether or not Assassin's Creed will be a timed exclusive for the PS3. Any thoughts? Update 1: Many sites are now noting the denial from Ubisoft on this matter. Under the guise of UbiRazz, a community manager (mod) from Ubisoft has stated that Ubisoft has made no such confirmation. At least three French sites have reported that Ubisoft made this confirmation at the Interactive DIGITAL Entertainment Festival (l'IDEF). So, this may still be a rumor, but it's a damned juicy one.

  • Assassin's Creed announced for PS3 [update 1]

Ubisoft Montreal (Splinter Cell & Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time) is currently developing its first PlayStation 3 title, Assassin's Creed. Set in the midst of the Third Crusade, players will become Altair, a member of the Assassins, and must strike both sides of the conflict to preserve the Holy Land. A teaser, which is on par with other suspicious PS3 trailers, has been posted on the official website ... That can't be the 'actual' game! Of course not, it's pre-rendered, silly. Ubisoft hopes to turn Assassin's Creed into a full-fledged franchise. This first installment will make its debut next week at E3. It's worth noting that the game has not yet been concept approved by Sony. Update: Assassin's Creed (or 'Project Assassin,' as it was formerly titled) was also announced for the Xbox 360 at X05. Despite 1Up's article, and until further notice, the game should not be considered a PS3 exclusive.
