Since the games were announced last week, all we've had to go on for Nintendo's unexpected, one-two "core" game punch of Sin and Punishment 2 and the new Punch-Out!! for Wii has been second-hand media. Now that the embargo on our Nintendo Fall Media Summit coverage has (finally) lifted, we can offer up these official, pristine screens and gameplay footage. We've already covered the basics on both games – now it's your chance to sit back, crank up the volume, and get every bit as excited as we were when Nintendo rolled these teasers and passed out anything-but-blurry screens. Of course, there are no firm release dates yet for either game, but they're coming, and that's exciting enough ... for the time being. You've already had the chance to examine scores of wonderful screens from new Wii games announced at the Nintendo Media Summit. This new post is dedicated to displaying thousands of more screens (squashed together to create videos) of some of the bigger titles that have been shown at the event. We settled on placing Nintendo's official Punch-Out!! trailer at the top of this post, but could have easily led with some truly fantastic Sin & Punishment 2 footage, an impressive tech demo of The Conduit, or Yuji Naka's wacky-looking Let's Tap. Instead, all of those (and more) are past the break, and need to be viewed right now. Before you go, though, one final note: if any game released this year has a funkier soundtrack than Let's Tap, we'll be gobsmacked.

I still can't get over the announcement of a new Punch-Out!! for Wii. It seemed like an obvious choice, sure, but Nintendo has avoided cashing in on plenty of obvious choices. To celebrate, I could have written a post about Super Punch-Out!!, but that's no fun at all. Well, actually, it's a lot of fun, but as a game. Instead, I have decided to reach a bit deeper into the tiny Punch-Out!! catalog and talk about ... the one that isn't about boxing. In 1985, the Nintendo IRD team created a second arcade game for the bizarre stacked-monitor cabinet that housed Punch-Out!! Like that game, it featured a small, nearly featureless competitor facing off against giant, grimacing dudes who happen to be broad stereotypes. But instead of punching the guys out, you ... wrestle ... their arms ... down. I'd be terrible at writing PR copy. And instead of a kid in a black tank top, you're a dope in a blue shirt with a black sweater-vest on. The effect is that of a rejected 1940's superhero sidekick.

Click for full-sized image Nintendo announced a lot of games last night at their Japanese conference. Many of them, like Punch-Out!! here, were brand new. Some, like Supan Smasher and Cosmic Walker, we still don't know anything about. But we've got screenshots. So many screenshots. After the break, you'll find galleries of all the new games, along with new screens of some upcoming games we've known about for a while. Of special interest to us: the previously-announced Oboro Muramasa Youtouden, coming to the US as Muramasa: The Demon Blade, because it looks super hot, Karaoke Joysound Wii, which appears to have art by Parappa creator Rodney Alan Greenblat, and Takuto of Magic (Wand of Magic), which appears to be a followup to Taito's LostMagic on the DS. %Gallery-33381%

If there's one thing that disappoints us about Nintendo's Wiivamped Punch-Out!!, it's that it doesn't use nearly enough exclamation marks in the title. We'd like to think that in the year 2008, what with the internet heavily contributing to our subconscious desire to pummel other human bean bags, an exercise in cartoonish pugilism would be announced with at least eight or nine turns of the sentence volume knob. That being said, if punching (!!!!!!!!) isn't your thing, perhaps you're open to other forms of punishment. You'll find footage of Treasure's shooty sequel, Sin & Punishment 2, after the break.

var digg_url = 'http://digg.com/gaming_news/Live_coverage_of_Nintendo_media_summit_DSi_Punch_Out_more'; We're live in San Francisco at Nintendo's press event – sure, they're going to go over last night's Nintendo announcements like the DSi, Play for Wii, and Punch-Out but maybe ... just maybe there's something else in store.12:14PM: Reggie has taken the podium. He's announced the DSi as a "third trier" platform and is talking about its built-in NVRAM. He's talking about the DSi Shop, the first two titles to be offered are "re-tooled" versions of Brain Age 1 and 2. The DSi features onboard image editing software that can be used to composite photos taken by both cameras in real time. Music player will support AAC format and allow pitch / speed manipulation. Various audio effects can be applied in real time.12:20PM: Opera browser runs faster than previous DS browser, Wi-Fi is "faster." Reggie just announced that the DSi will not see release until "well into calendar year 2009" citing strong U.S. sales of current DS hardware. He's talking about Wii storage now; confirming that SD card will be used for additional storage, saying that transferring between internal NVRAM and SD card will be dramatically faster.12:24PM: Reggie says that significantly more Wii systems will be shipped into retail this holiday season versus last year. He can't say how many, and anticipated the question of will it be enough? "Ask me in January." Har. Har. Cammie is at the podium now to talk about software. Take note, folks: She's smiling! Punch-Out!! is on-screen. Cammie calls it a "re-introduction" of the classic title. Video is rolling! Little Mac is showing off in toon-shaded glory. King Hippo and Glass Joe plus a female boxer appeared in the video. Looks like it plays just like the original titles ... but what's that? Cammie says that Punch-Out!! is fully motion-controlled.

Sometimes you just have a bad day. It happens to the best of us; even video game bloggers are not infallible. And after a rage-inducing, hair-pulling bad day, you can go home, curl up in a ball and listen to The Wallflowers in surrender, or vent some of that anger. By punching people. But hold up there, tiger. You can't punch real people. That's, like, illegal. Enter the Wii: the best simulation for punching people outside of the real thing. Unfortunately, Wii Sports Boxing does not offer the realistic experience of mashing in someone's face Stallone style. Worse, no other boxing game since the Wii's release has really delivered a solid boxing experience. That could change in the near future with Facebreaker K.O. Party, forcing me to eat my words like a knuckle sandwich from Rocky Marciano. But if its Xbox/PS3 counterpart is any indication, there's not much chance of that. The same goes for Don King Prizefighter. This shaky reliability just won't do. We know a lot of you are a little bummed after E3. You didn't get what you want. We know how that can feel. In the tiniest of efforts to make you feel better, we're giving away a couple of classics this week as part of Virtually Free. If you don't have them, you should -- and we're going to give them to one lucky reader: Punch-Out!! (NES, 500 Wii points/$5) Super Mario Bros. 3 (NES, 500 Wii points/$5) To enter, just leave a comment here (with a valid e-mail address!) and tell us one thing you liked about this year's E3. You must be a legal resident of the United States with an American Wii (sorry, Canadians, we have to leave you out of this one; blame the gifting system and not us!) and 18 years of age or older. You may enter once per calendar day between now and Monday, July 28; the contest comes to a close that night at 11:59 PM Eastern time, and we'll select a winner in a random drawing the next day. Ding Ding! Some potentially huuuuge news this morning from the pages of Brit magazine NGamer -- apparently, E3 will see Nintendo uppercutting its competition with a new edition of Punch-Out!! for the Wii. Not only that, but the mag reckons Punch Out!! Wii will ship with Balance Board support to let us float like a butterfly dodge and weave, and that we'll be using the Wii Remote and Nunchuk to sting like a bee punch. Is this the hardcore-pleasing title that Reggie has previously referenced? It could well be, because we're the hardcore, and we're pleased by this![Via Go Nintendo]

  • Rumor: Animal Crossing, Punch-Out!! Wii being revealed at E3

The latest issue of Euro mag NGamer has a rumor that both Animal Crossing Wii and Punch-Out!! Wii will be revealed at next week's E3. The mag states (via N-Europe) that Animal Crossing Wii has been done for a while and, although not an MMO, uses Wi-Fi sharing. Punch-Out!! Wii can allegedly use the Wii Fit Balance Board for dodging as an option, while the rest of the gameplay will be similar to Wii Sports boxing or Wii Fit's Rhythm Boxing. Now, this all come from a magazine, which has a lead time, so even if the information is true, who knows if it's still accurate. Although Punch-Out!! Wii is a semi-surprise, let's be honest, Animal Crossing isn't a question of if ... but, when. [Via GoNintendo]

While we're sure that nobody is going to trash Soda Pop while using the Donkey Konga bongo controller in Punch-Out!!, it's good enough to take down Glass Joe with ease. And, it's a neat way to enjoy one of the best 8-bit games around. Just, uh, skip like the first minute of the video. It's kind of painful to watch.[Via Joystiq]

As big of a kick as we get out of mods and hacks that make our favorite games more fun or accessible, we have to admit that we have a special place in our hearts for mods like the ones we're talking about today, mods that stand on the precipice of madness, laugh into the face of the torrential downpour of skepticism and dare man or God to find some purpose for their very existence. Why would you want to play Mike Tyson's Punch-Out! with the GameCube bongo drums? You wouldn't, that's why. So why even take the time to do it instead of putting your time to more fruitful pursuits? Because it was there, of course. Because it was there.[Via Eegra]

  • For awesome NES mods, just add legends

Thanks to its largely flat surface, the NES doubles up as an ideal canvas for those wishing to spruce up their consoles with a custom paint job. Of course, you also need artistic ability, which is where we fail hideously, and eBay user hellokitty11111111111 (yes) excels.Well, "excels" most of the time, anyway. The quality of these mods does vary a little -- we're not big fans of the Kid Icarus design -- but we do absolutely love the Earthbound, Super Mario Bros. 3, and (highly topical) River City Ransom examples. Are they worth (up to) $149.99, though? At a stretch, we'd be tempted. There's more past the break, complete with auction links.

We can't help but love Little Mac, the quintessential underdog. If seeing him on your virtual console isn't enough, though, how about seeing him around your neck in the winter? You may have also noticed that this scarf has Mike Tyson's big mug on it, so you won't have to settle for Mr. Dream. Realistically, we know you won't buy this -- after all, the scarf is a whopping $175 on Etsy. Still, we admire the craftsmanship that went into Beatboxtaun's crocheting, and we hope you do, too. We only wish we had such skills ourselves, so that we didn't have to drool over these kinds of things on Etsy all the time.In our opinion, this definitely beats out the Punch-Out mat for the best craft featuring Little Mac (that we know of).[Via Technabob]

Craftster user obesolete rendered this extremely familiar scene from Mike Tyson's Punch-Out!! (or, as it appears on the Virtual Console and in the later console release, Not Mike Tyson's Punch-Out!!) in cross-stitch. Bald Bull has just totally smashed the extremely undersized Little Mac, stripping him (we imagine) of the star he'd been saving up for an opportune moment.Cross-stitch is a good medium for game crafts, because, much like Perler beads, it naturally lends itself to designs formed from small squares. NES pixels, of course, translate perfectly. That doesn't prevent us from feeling a bit subversive sometimes for using traditional crafting methods to render weird, nontraditional stuff like game screens. No doubt obesolete got the same giggle out of doing this.
