  • HD DVD player spotted for $249 after rebate

When we first heard about the new FATHER's DAY HD DVD rebate we instantly hoped that it would be offered with other discounts, and now it seems that someone has spotted an HD-D2 at Costco for $249. For those who aren't familiar with Costco, they like to change the model numbers, so this is the same as the HD-A2 to everyone else. While $50 off the MSRP isn't the best deal we have seen without a rebate, at this price anyone trying to decide between an upconverting DVD player and HD DVD, has a really easy decision to make..

  • $200 Series3 rebate for FATHER's DAY

It looks like Toshiba isn't the only one into the FATHER's DAY spirit, as TiVo is also offering a rebate for a Hi-Def gadget. TiVo one-ups Toshiba by offering a $200 rebate instead of only $100, but the rebate is the mail-in variety, and is only valid on the Series3 (no, not a Series2) purchased between May 27th and June 16th. The rebate cannot be used in combination with another TiVo package, but should still be good if purchased at a discount from your favorite retailer. [Via TiVoCommunity.com]Read - PDF - Rebate form

  • Save another $100 on HD DVD this FATHER'S DAY

It seems that every week we hear about a price drop from either HD DVD or Blu-ray, and this week it's both. First Panasonic announced their DMP-BD10A for $600 and now Toshiba is announcing a $100 in-store instant rebate -- our favorite kind -- on any HD DVD player purchased between May 20th and June 16th. Assuming no other discounts, you can now get a stand-alone HD DVD player for that magic price of $299. This combined with the free movies promotion, removes any (price-related) excuses for not picking up an HD DVD player, and enjoying the Ultimate Matrix Collection on HD DVD.

  • AT&T, Apple to offer rebate cash on the iPhone?

If this were literally any other phone, talk of a rebate and/or instant discount at the time of purchase with a new contract would be a foregone conclusion; in fact, customers wouldn't tolerate it any other way. But this is the iPhone, after all -- and according to an analyst with American Technology Research, Apple is just now getting around to considering such a deal. Word on the street has Atlanta and Cupertino considering a rebate in the $50 to $150 range (presumably based on the model purchased) which could definitely make the 8GB version's $600 price point just a touch easier to swallow. Did Apple determine through extensive market research that consumers like it (gasp!) when things cost less? From its perspective, it may not matter either way because the same analyst is reporting that the company will be paid a "bounty" for each and every new AT&T customer it signs up in its brick and online stores. A good deal for Apple? Indeed.[Thanks, Raphael D.]

  • EarthLink pushes TiVo Series2 DVRs

EarthLink DSL subscribers will have a new option coming their way this spring, when the company partners up with TiVo to distribute TiVo Series2 DVRs and the TiVo service -- with a rebate on the cost of the DVR -- to new existing EarthLink customers. TiVo's been looking to branch out to new partners after its agreement with DirecTV ended, and its Comcast TiVo service won't launch until later this year. So far the services don't work together, but representatives indicated to CNET that a combination TiVo/DSL modem is a possibility, but there are "no specific plans at this time". We understand interoperable products might be a way off, but how about throwing in a newer Series3 TiVo and some additional HD features?

  • Snag a Premium 360 for $200?

The Micro Center rebate saga continues this week. First, they announced the $100 360 rebate (Core or Premium). Next, they extended the deal through the holidays. And now, it seems you can knock off another $100 by employing a little trickery. Signing up for a Micro Center credit card and making a purchase of $399 will net you enough redeemable points to claim a $100 check. For those keeping score, that's $200 off the price of a Premium pack, effectively dropping the price to $199 ... high five! It should be noted that we don't have confirmation that this will work, but considering the credit card deal applies to purchases of $399, it seems like it was actually made specifically for this purpose.Remember, you might have to hoof it quite a ways, though, as there are only 19 Micro Center locations in the US. Our advice: make a detour (or twelve) on your way to grandma's house for the holidays.[Thanks, Dave Zatz]

Micro Center has extended the length of its $100 Xbox 360 mail-in rebate. Through December 31, an in-store* purchase of either the Xbox 360 Premium or Core console will come with the rebate offer.Micro Center recently expanded its console gaming department and is using the rebate to lure sales away from its competitors. With a sizeable number of Xbox 360s in stock this holiday, Micro Center has conveniently declared Xbox 360 models to be "the premier game console gifts this season." Marketing spin? Definitely. But this is still a darn good deal.*There are only 19 Micro Center locations in the US.

We meant to post this deal yesterday, but the torrent of Halo info totally threw us off. Here's the scoop: Micro Center is offering a $100 dollar rebate on both the Xbox 360 Core and Premium systems. Of course, nothing this good is ever easy. If you want your discounted system, you're going to have to buy it in store, as the deal is unavailable online. Hopefully you live near one of Micro Center's 19 locations. Last we checked, there are 50 states, so some driving may be required. Not only that, but the rebate will take a minimum of 8 weeks to process, so the sweet satisfaction of saving money will take a while to kick in. Still, cheap is cheap. Get it while the gettin's good.[Via Joystiq. Thanks, foodgoes]

With only 19 retail store locations nationwide, this may involve a road trip -- be sure to call ahead for availability.Micro Center is offering up a $100 mail-in rebate for Xbox 360 (Premium or Core) purchases. The catch, your 'box can only be copped in-store (not online) between November 12 (last Sunday) and December 3. It's also worth noting that the rebate could take up to 3 months to process. Still, for those of you in the gift-giving business, this is a bargain not to be missed.

  • Apple offers $20 iLife '06 discount to .Mac customers

In their true spirit of integration, Apple has finally decided to offer .Mac customers a small kickback on the purchase of iLife '06 (just in time for that iLife '07 sting to really get ya in January). In Apple Stores or online, the .Mac blog has announced a $20 discount (it's a mail-in rebate if you purchase from anywhere else) on the purchase of either a single or family pack of iLife '06, bringing their respective prices down to $59 and $79. Not a bad deal considering these two services are joined at the hips. You can also walk - no need to run - as they've left the discount/rebate open for (most of) the holiday shopping season - it ends December 13th.

  • Star Trek, hw6900 series coming to Cingular next week?

    by

    08.02.2006

Cingular rebate forms circulating over the past couple days are indicating the presence of three devices -- HP's hw6920 / hw6925 and HTC's Star Trek, offered here as the 3125 -- and while too much time has passed for us to get too worked up at the thought of putting our hands on any of these, they're worth noting nonetheless. Now, the popular rumor says that since these puppies have shown up with rebates, they're in the pipeline for delivery next week. While we're hoping that's true, we're not betting on it. Cingular has a reputation for placing rebates on phones ages before their retail availability -- heck, it's not even unheard of for rebates to expire before the phone even drops. So if next week comes and goes and one, two, or all three of these handsets are nowhere to be found, just remember: a pessimist is never disappointed.

  • Parallels Desktop official in Apple Stores with rebate offer

I was in an Apple Store here in CO yesterday and noticed that retail boxes of Parallels Desktop have arrived on the shelves. In fact, I had a nice discussion with a customer who was switching because he could now run Windows on a new Mac (he never considered Virtual PC an option - I personally don't blame him). He even used the term 'safety net' to refer to how often he hoped to have to run Windows - if ever.I also just received an email from Parallels promoting a $20 rebate with the purchase of Parallels Desktop ($80) and Windows XP (either $200 for Home or $300 for Pro). The rebate is good through August 15th, and Windows XP must be purchased within 14 days of Parallels Desktop.

My friend Chris sent me some info from a Microsoft e-mail, offering Office:Mac Student and Teacher edition for $99 ($149 minus a $50 mail-in rebate). The deal runs from June 13th to September 12th and applies to any purchase (retail or online) of the Student/Teacher version of Office:Mac. If you're headed to school or have a loved one that is, better jump on this deal -- compared to the "Standard" version's $400 price tag, this seems like a steal.

Apple is currently running a promotion (which goes until September 16, 2006) that many college students will like. Buy a Mac and an iPod to qualify for a $179 dollar rebate. Apple is advertising this as getting a free iPod nano, but the rebate can be applied to any iPod model you might have your eye on. Sounds like a good deal, though I never remember to fill out those rebate offers.[via MacMinute]

  • Apple Store 50% Office discount ends 1/31/06

MacMerc caught that the Apple Store's "up to 50% discount on Microsoft Office" promo disappears at the end of this month. The basic rundown is:Buy a new MacBuy Office for Mac or individual apps such as Word, Excel and PowerPoint from select retailersMail in rebate (PDF link)ProfitThe rebate form states you can take advantage of this offer on up to 4 Mac Office combinations, but all eligible items need to be on the same receipt - and what a receipt that will be! One quirky thing about the rebate is that it includes a two-question survey. The first is "Prior to this offer, were you aware that Microsoft Office runs on a Mac?" while the second asks if you would still be buying Office or even a Mac if it weren't for this offer. I guess Apple is checking in on just how vital Office is to Mac users. Preparation for a new run with a (hopefully) updated iWork '06? In a mere five days we'll hopefully have an answer.
