  • Robot Chicken animator uses modded Power Glove for work

Next time someone tells you that Nintendo's Power Glove accessory was a flop, point them to Dillon Markey, an animator who works on projects like Cartoon Network's Robot Chicken. Markey has been using a modified Power Glove for more than a year now, using it to help him control the devices and software he needs to get the right shot. But because making the Power Glove feature a Bluetooth keyboard just wasn't enough, Markey's modified version also sports a retractable set of tweezers and a sensor that causes it to speak when given a fist bump. (Unfortunately, the phrase it speaks is unsuitable for print here. But it rhymes with "ducking awesome.") A short documentary by Ava Benjamin was posted to Vimeo earlier this week, and it shows Markey using and reminiscing about the iconic piece of wearable technology. "I see this and it's like the coolest thing in the world, it's like a cyborg arm," Markey says in the video, which you can watch after the break. See? The Power Glove wasn't a failure, it was just ahead of its time! Yeah, that's it - 26 years ahead of its time.

When Valve and Adult Swim announced a partnership involving the Team Fortress 2 universe, we winked at each other, throwing out the tired joke that it would probably just be a bunch of hats. Today, we're not sure if we should be laughing or weeping silently into our keyboards: Adult Swim has revealed a free, limited-edition Robot Chicken hat for any class in TF2, as the first iteration in a series of new stuff coming from Valve and Adult Swim.To get the Robot Chicken hat, just sign up for the Adult Swim newsletter by July 4.In related, not-completely-predictable news, the FAQ for redeeming the Robot Chicken hat asks and answers an intriguing question: Q. Are you making a Team Fortress cartoon? A. Go ask your mother. As long as it's not called "The Hatsure Brothers" or any variation thereof, an Adult Swim Team Fortress 2 cartoon sounds like something we could get behind. In still-related, by-now-old news, Valve launched the "Meet the Pyro" video and announced the Source Filmmaker movie-creating tool today.

  • Steve Jobs kills off the CD on Adult Swim's Robot Chicken

It's no secret that Steve Jobs isn't a fan of the physical CD, preferring, of course, that his customers buy their music in his iTunes store. But what length is he willing to go to get rid of the CD for good? On the latest episode of Seth Green's grossly satirical stop-motion show Robot Chicken we found out, as a Steve Jobs parody became a target for both Compact Disc Man and Zune Man. The "superheroes" tried to do Jobs in, but he succeeded in killing the CD off in a hail of gunfire. Zune Man, however, was allowed to live, with Jobs stating that he "wouldn't waste the bullets." Touche. Click Read More below to check out the clip for yourself.

LucasArts has tapped comedy troupe Robot Chicken for this new Star Wars: The Force Unleashed 2 ad. We see right through it though! Clearly, it's a Jedi mind trick employing real laughs to cover up that laughable game plot. You can test your own consumer willpower by taking a closer look just the after the break.

  • Robot Chicken coming to PlayStation Home Theater

We've come a long, long way from the opening days of the PlayStation Home Theater space, where the debut trailer for Twilight played in an endless cycle of brain-melting teen melodrama. Today, if you drop by the networking service's silver screens, you'll be able to view some programming that's probably more in your wheelhouse -- clips from Adult Swim's Mego-infused comedy series, Robot Chicken.Whether or not you enjoy Seth Green's stop-motion brainchild, we think we can all agree that it's a step up from teasers for vampiric romance novel adaptations. Unfortunately, we're physically incapable of watching Robot Chicken without succumbing to waves of nausea, a side-effect from our youthful diet of G.I. Joes.

  • Robot Chicken's downloadable Spore adventures are totally tasteful, just watch

When we first heard that the creators and writers of adult swim's stop-motion comedy goldmine, Robot Chicken, were going to be creating DLC adventures for Spore: Galactic Adventures, we knew the results would be ... unique. Now EA has released a short video showing Seth Green, Tom Root and the rest of the show's writing staff "at work" on the content, followed by a run-through of what they came up with. "Unique" doesn't describe it; in fact, we're not sure any word could. "Nutshit," maybe. So thanks, Robot Chicken. You've managed to make us want to re-install the game, if only to find out whether Whiney rhino actually obeys the evil clown and shovels the poo he fears so much. Spore, June 23 is your day to shine.

The Robot Chicken writing team is designing a free downloadable campaign pack for Spore Galactic Adventures, set to be available at launch on June 23. The campaign was conceptualized by Seth Green and Matt Senreich, then presumably executed by their underlings. The DLC includes "exploding poo, angry yetis, ruler yielding librarians and more," of course. The team's exploits (in creating the DLC, we hope) will be tracked at the Spore WTF site. At least getting the Robot Chicken crew involved might get "the targeted demographic" talking about Spore again.

  • Robot Chicken and Spore to be combined ... somehow

There are few things that aren't better when you mix them with adult swim's 15-minute comedy series Robot Chicken. Mario was better, GTA was better and, we're hoping, that Spore will be improved whenever Maxis shows what it's working on with the show's creators.A teaser site has been launched at www.spore.com/wtf, promising some combination of the IPs to be revealed on May 19. You can also find a teaser video after the jump that features Du Jour's Breckin Meyer discussing exploding raindrops. Consider us intrigued.[Via BD]

Warning: The language is not appropriate for work.Keep Browsing is the freshman machinima effort of Swedish author Mozq. Mozq assures us that it's not going to be his last. It's a strong first video, and promises a lot of good things in the future. While the style reminds me somewhat of Wrath of a Couch Potato, the author does a good job of making the format meaningful for each tiny clip. Like Seth Green's "Robot Chicken," this video features short moments of comedy. Each visual segment is set up and executed very quickly, mostly drawing on the audience's memes and knowledge about the mis en scene to skip any preliminaries. Of course, if you're not steeped in geek or internet culture, a lot of the jokes might buzz by you.Mozq gives a shout out to machinima greats like Baron Soosdon, from whom he's apparently drawn some level of inspiration. I think this first effort comedy piece is pretty strong. I'm not sure if the micro-segment format is really my thing, but it definitely makes for a quick and easy watch.[Via Warcraft Movies]If you have any suggestions for WoW Moviewatch, you can mail them to us at machinima AT wowinsider DOT com.Previously on Moviewatch ..

We have exciting news for Robot Chicken fanboys today as the special Robot Chicken: Star Wars episode is available for purchase exclusively through the U.S. Video Marketplace. We say exclusively because you can't purchase the episode stand alone or on DVD anywhere else. And really, if you have your DVD pre-order already in we'd probably recommend canceling it. Not only will you have to wait until May 20th for Robot Chicken: Star Wars to hit DVD status (ouch!), but you'll also be paying a lot more. Right now you can get the episode from the XBLM for the standard 240 Microsoft point price tag saving you about $7. May the force be with you!

This little bit of machinima defies all of my attempts to explain it, so you're just going to have to watch it if you want to know. All I can say is that it reminds me a bit of the Adult Swim show Robot Chicken. You know, if Robot Chicken were filmed entirely in World of Warcraft. (No, it doesn't hit RC's levels of shocking, but it is a collection of odd, amusing, and completely unrelated skits.)Previously on Moviewatch...

  • Claymation + puppy kicking = GTA parody

    by

Cartoon Network's Robot Chicken does video games again, trading in their FFVII dolls for some Grand Theft Au ... errr, excuse me, Grand Theft Larceny: San Diego action figures. Beating a nun with a crucifix, kicking puppies, incestuous Hot Coffee, it's all in here. The thing about GTA parodies is, doesn't anyone else already see GTA as a parody of itself, a pastiche of inner-city culture? It's like Stephen Colbert's Colbert Report character; he's not any more outrageous than the personality cultists he's mocking. Pedantic observations aside, this bit, like Colbert, is still good for some giggles. Need proof: the video is embedded after the break.[Via digg]
