Telltale Games' Poker Night at the Inventory 2 stars a table of quick-witted, quick-to-anger players from all of our favorite media forms: Claptrap from the Borderlands franchise, Sam from the Sam and Max game and graphic novels, Brock Samson from Adult Swim cartoon series The Venture Bros., and Ash Williams from cult horror film Army of Darkness. GLaDOS, main baddie of the Portal games, will be the dealer, so rest assured each hand will be extremely scientific.Poker Night at the Inventory 2 is "coming soon" to Steam for PC and Mac, alongside Xbox Live Marketplace and PSN, with more platforms to be announced. Sam and Max may have gone beyond the boundaries of time and space in their latest series of episodic adventures, but does that mean they must also travel beyond the boundaries of your budget?Nay, says Telltale Games, and to prove it the developer has made the first episode of Sam & Max: Beyond Time and Space on iOS totes free, and discounted the other four episodes to $2.99 a piece. These aren't permanent pricing changes, of course, so anyone looking to get their adventuring feet wet with something a little more family friendly than the alternative should take note.

These new figures from Symbiote Studios should do just that, offering up some cute, stylized versions of both Sam and Max or one sweet statue. The figures will set you back $20, while the 17-inch statue demands $75 of your precious monies (at gunpoint). Okay, so you can't go Back to the Future or have a Poker Night at the Inventory, but you can point and click your way through most of the Telltale Games' catalog for 50 percent off until January 3, 2011. That means you can listen to some Tales of Monkey Island, help Sam & Max with some freelance police work, invent a reason to hang out with Wallace & Gromit, or man up with Strong Bad (but only if you're attractive) at a significant discount on the Telltale site.

  • Poker Night at the Inventory review: A bad beat

Telltale Games has a difficult tightrope to walk, balancing as it does between narrative and gameplay. The studio counts on you being immersed in the universes it creates, but also has to keep all that character from getting in the way of the game it has crafted. Poker Night at the Inventory seems to be drenched in the studio's typical humor and likable characters. But it quickly becomes clear that the repetitive dialog is muddying a poker game that was already weak to begin with. In short: Telltale has fallen off the rope entirely. At least in Sam & Max there's always the chance of redemption in the next narrative-led mission. In Poker Night ... well, there's just the next oddly timed "sandvich" joke. %Gallery-107880%

It wouldn't be Halloween weekend if Telltale didn't offer a chapter of one of its adventure series for free -- well, we guess it still would be Halloween weekend, since ... that's how time works. Regardless, you can grab Sam and Max: Night of the Raving Dead this weekend for free.

Oh, you haven't found the time to acquire Telltale's Great Adventure Bundle 2010, a twenty-dollar package which includes a grip of adventure games both new and old, 25 percent of the proceeds from which go to charities like Child's Play and The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society? That's too bad -- the offer ended last Friday, and your donation would have given these organizations the resources they finally needed to cure like, nine diseases. Bet you feel pretty terrible right now, don't you? Huh? Huh? We're sorry we had to trick you like that -- Telltale actually just extended the offer until this Friday, September 17, giving you one last chance to correct your shameful oversight. Think of the children! Or, rather, think of your own insatiable hunger for point-and-click adventure games!

Well, this is certainly ... unexpected. Telltale Games recently uploaded a brief teaser trailer (posted below) for an unannounced title featuring a few cryptic messages, as well as the line-up seen above. Fans of adventure games (and, uh, team-based shooters) will recognize the silhouettes pictured therein as Tycho from Penny Arcade Adventures, Max from Sam and Max, the Heavy from Team Fortress 2 and Strong Bad from Strong Bad's Cool Game for Attractive People. That's in order from left to right, in case you're really unfamiliar with the aforementioned games. We could spend the rest of the fantasizing about the manner in which these four properties could be blended, but we won't have to wait long for the actual explanation -- the trailer promises more info on the untitled project will be released next Thursday, September 2.

PS3 owners who have recently seen the light of adventure games, thanks to Telltale's Sam & Max releases, now have another reason to load their PSN wallets: Telltale and Lucasarts will release the entire first season of Tales of Monkey Island -- all five episodes -- as a downloadable PS3 game on June 15. Even if you won't be playing Monkey Island on PS3, this news likely benefits you. To celebrate the PSN release, Telltale is temporarily knocking down the price of the collection to $20 across all platforms -- not just PSN. The PC and Mac versions will also be sold at this discount price on Telltale's website through June 30. Obtaining the episodes this way is easier than hijacking a boat carrying shipments of Monkey Island games -- and actually cheaper, too. Additionally, and especially if you prefer your Telltale protagonists anthropomorphic, you'll be pleased to know that Sam & Max's third episode of the third season, "They Stole Max's Brain!," will be available via (the North American) PSN and for PC and Mac on June 22; and the Euro PSN release will follow on June 23. And, hey, Sam & Max is on sale too! You can get the full season on PSN for $25.%Gallery-94965%

  • Get all three seasons of Sam & Max for $50

First, you should know that Telltale has released the Sam & Max Complete Pack, which crams the first two seasons of the episodic Sam & Max series along with the currently 'airing' third season, The Devil's Playhouse, all into one package. The second thing you should know -- please, pay attention -- is that the Complete Pack is currently on sale for the ludicrously low price of $49.99, one heckuva deal considering the usual $95 price tag. If you've been looking for an excuse to dip your toes into the delightfully mad world of Sam & Max, this is it. Just do it quickly, because the sale ends June 2 at midnight PT. Mac users take note: only Seasons 2 and 3 are currently compatible with OS X. Telltale plans to port Season 1 "eventually," noting that its older code makes the porting process more difficult than the newer seasons. A Telltale purchase counts for both Windows and OS X versions, so Mac users will be able to download Season 1 free of charge once the port is finished.

PSN Tuesday brings the cute and epic this week. Cute comes in the form of Rocket Knight, which may have some of its sales fueled by nostalgia, but can be a blast for those in the mood for classic (pseudo) 2D side-scrolling. The epic is delivered by Dragon Age: Origins' "Darkspawn Chronicles" DLC, which is just the latest add-on in the saga of Ferelden -- this one with a "what if" twist. Click image to check out our 'stache of screens Telltale has sent over some media from Sam & Max: The Devil's Playhouse's second episode, The Tomb of Sammun-Mak, which takes the duo down a decidedly gentlemanly path. Sure, there's only the one in-game screenshot where Sam is sporting some bushy whiskers (good show, old boy!) but there's still other items to leisurely peruse, perhaps while sipping a fine Earl Grey tea. There are also several pieces of art for your eyes to appreciate, including a posh train and rather down-on-his-luck-looking Max, if that's more to your liking. So, put on your most dashing outfit and be sure to head into our gallery for a sophisticated look at the upcoming episode. Tally-ho! %Gallery-92554%

Seriously, can you believe that's how long the title is? It's really, really that long. As the name would imply, Sam and Max: The Devil's Playhouse: Episode 1: The Penal Zone isn't the first game in the series. In fact, it's either the third, fifth or 14th, depending on how you're counting. Whether you've been keeping up with the ongoing series or if you're (like myself) a lapsed player, you'll be glad to hear that the freelance police are still at the top of their game. %Gallery-88038%

Or it does. Or it ... did? Ever since I peered through Future Vision -- an amazing ocular toy employed in the first episode of Telltale's latest adventure, Sam & Max: The Devil's Playhouse -- my awareness of time has been (was?) sullied. In fact, I will never be more convinced that I'm staring through the device in this very moment, plagiarizing every word my future self was writing ... later today. Yes. Now I will write, I feel like I'm being watched. %Gallery-88038%
