  • Against all odds, Samus cosplay looks surprisingly good

In recent times, we've shone the Fanboy spotlight on cosplay experiments that have ranged from adorable to slightly surreal. This Samus number effortlessly trumps the lot, however. For starters, it's Samus. Samus cosplay is not a walk in the park, kids. We can only begin to imagine the sheer frustration involved in accurately recreating the Power Suit, with all of its peculiar angles and ridges (not to mention those awkward shoulder spheres). Which makes this effort, featuring Swedish student Jenni Källberg, all the more admirable.More pictures after the jump.

  • Get out of Zebes! Prime Samus Aran cosplay

It's not often you'll find us complimenting the quality of an individual's cosplay, so when we do it's sort of a big deal. Not "I just won the lottery" big, but more "Sweet, the vending machine gave me two sodas for the price of one" big. Anyway, you get the picture. Jenni, playing the part of Metroid's Samus Aran, captures the essence of the character thanks to a fairly accurate costume, and fantastic setting. The complete set features 15 different photos, and outside of the shots where she dons the helmet, they're really worthy of praise. Keep up the good work, Jenni! [Thanks, Jesse.]

  • Dojo update: Lucas is packing moves

Lucas just might be our new favorite character to hate, as today the dojo reveals his special move list. Sure, Fox has the annoying ability to reflect everything and spam his pistol across the whole level, but Lucas might have him beat with the Psi Magnet maneuver you see above. It allows him to absorb projectiles and turn it into health.Since our favorite character is Samus, he could very well be a lot of trouble to fight.%Gallery-6869%%Gallery-3347%

It's another week and that means another 5 days full of updates over at the dojo. Today showcases the variety of maneuvers Samus can perform while in her Zero Suit, which you may or may not know occurs when she lays the smack down hard. Personally, we can't wait to give her a try in both forms, so that we may see which is better for us. Considering she was our favorite character in Melee, we're sure we'll like playing as her again.%Gallery-6869%%Gallery-3347%

There just might be a new level to topple our current favorite from Smash Bros. Melee, Hyrule. Not only is this stage a wonderful piece of nostalgia, it is also fairly functional and includes a feature we wish more stages had: nowhere to fall to your death. Seriously, we hate ourselves some plunging to doom. Oh, and occasionally a Metal Gear will appear. Rock!Click on through to check out some videos aside from the ones featured this morning, including one where Snake talks about him and Samus taking their clothes off. • Metroid Wii mod is cooler than a blast from an Ice Beam

var digg_url = 'http://digg.com/nintendo_wii/Metroid_Wii_mod_is_cooler_than_a_blast_from_an_Ice_Beam '; We love Metroid Prime 3 and all, but perhaps the best thing about the game is that it inspired this jaw-dropping Wii mod from the guy responsible for the equally jaw-dropping Zelda DS Lite and the astounding Zelda Wii case mod. Basically, we've developed TMJ from looking at Ramon's mods. This one is the coolest one yet. In addition to the awesome backlit, custom-made Samus Aran emblem, the case mod integrates a Wiimote charger in its illuminated stand. The Wii disc slot glows green in imitation of Samus's visor; even the Wiimote and Nunchuk are painted the metallic green of Samus's arm cannon.Like the others, this modded Wii is being auctioned off on eBay, and 15% of the selling price will go to Penny Arcade's Child's Play charity. In return, 100% of the awesome modded Wii will go to the buyer. Check after the break for a couple of choice closeups! And then check your wallet for the hundreds of dollars required to buy this.[Via Gizmodo; thanks, Jeremy!]

var digg_url = 'http://digg.com/nintendo_wii/Metroid_Prime_3_glitch_could_ruin_one_of_the_best_boss_fights_in_the_game'; Reader fatherb sent in this video of his sad encounter with one of the bosses in Metroid Prime 3: Corruption. Apparently, he isn't the only one experiencing this horrible glitch in the game, which we won't go into detail about for those of you who have yet to come into contact with this boss. In fact, since this is chock full of spoilers, we've gone ahead and tucked the video past the break.Watch at your own risk.

Continuing our romp through the Metroid series's boxart history, we're ending today with a look at covers from Samus's prime installments on both handhelds and consoles. We've also thrown in the packaging designs from the NES Classics releases which we neglected to include yesterday, though none of you noticed. As for music pairings, the boxarts past the post break go best with The Commodores's "Three Times a Lady." Seriously, try it.

This is it. This is why odd little events like Metroid week are so great. Not only do we get to wallow in all things Metroid, but as the week winds down, we get to celebrate with a great little song and video from Uncle Monsterface about one of gaming's biggest revelations. Let's take a little trip back in time -- and behind the break -- to see what it's all about.

You know how much we love to discuss boxart here at Wii Fanboy, so it seemed obvious to us that we should take a look back at past Metroid covers during our commemorative week. We've gathered up all the packaging art we could find from Samus's tenderfoot days on the NES to her later outings on the Game Boy Advance, and have posted them all past the post break for you to scroll through. Feel free to queue up Kenny Rogers's "Through The Years" for maximum enjoyment.

The culture of gaming (and especially comics) is chock full of hypothetical battles, often ending in heated geek debate. And this browser game is no different. But, seeing as how we're celebrating something here this week, we felt compelled to share this game with you.The controls aren't the best and you actually control Mega Man the entire time, but it's still got enemies and areas from the original Metroid title.

One of the best things about conventions of any kind is seeing all of the people dressing up as their favorite characters from games and manga. And considering PAX just came to a close and what week this is, we figured we could post some of our internet finds on cosplaying Samus Arans. So, for some of the best (and worst) costumes, head past the break.

If you were one of the folks who pre-ordered their copy of Metroid Prime 3 from Amazon, then you've likely already received an email telling you that the game will not be arriving on your doorstep on time. Pushed back to September 2nd, it looks like you Amazon users are left up a creek lacking a paddle. That, we must say, really bites. So, have any of you chosen a refund and decided to go and track it down out in the real world, at a brick and mortar retail location? Or will you wait around for Amazon to ship your copy to you?[Thanks, Eric!]

When we were thinking about content to post during Metroid Week, old commercials immediately sprang to mind. From the old NES commercials that declared we were playing with power to funky Japanese ads that have a live action, cosplaying Samus, we knew that you readers would get a kick out of it. So, head on past the break and get an eye full of some commercials starring our favorite bounty hunter.

Like the man you see above, we also feel as if a large metroid has devoured our head whole. While one would assume that a metroid coming into contact with any part of your body would only result in the creature sucking all of your precious life away, it has caused us to become even more spiritful and energetic. We're pumped for the latest game in the series! As such, Wii Fanboy has decided to officially dub this Metroid Week, in celebration of the release of Metroid Prime 3: Corruption. In addition to our normal coverage, we've got all kinds of awesome Metroid-themed content coming your way. So, if you love Samus as much as we do (which is about 5 wall posters' worth), then sit back, relax and keep your eyes glued to Wii Fanboy.

  • Super Metroid, Shinobi III, Neutopia hit Virtual Console

The original headline was something along the lines of "Samus and Shinobi tour Neutopia on Virtual Console" but honestly, the less time spent thinking up trite headlines the better. Today's incredible Virtual Console update has steamrolled our Monday productivity into a lackadaisical mush of "meh." Super Metroid (SNES, 1 player, 800 Wii points): Considered by many to be one of the greatest games of all time (evar), Super Metroid hardly requires a descriptive paragraph such as this one. Needless to say then, that it features Samus doing what she does best: murdering metroids, blasting evil brains and reminding us why we need to stay alive until August 27th. Shinobi III: Return of the Ninja Master (Genesis, 1 player, 800 Wii points): The third entry in Sega's ninja kill-em-up series and arguably the best. As far as side-scrolling slashers go, the Shinobi one is your only hope... for gaming fun! Neutopia (TurboGrafx16, 1 player, 600 Wii points): Neutopia is often labeled as a Legend of Zelda clone. Somehow, we don't think it minds. Look for these games in the Wii shop after 9AM PST.

If we're really celebrating all things Samus, then we thought it was only appropriate to resurrect one of the most most entertaining and over-the-top ridiculous fan-made videos ever. No, it's not new -- it was even posted here before -- but it's Metroid month. We had to.

Metroid. Prime. 3. So close to release. After delays and forgotten promises of online play, will this be the first great Wii first-person shooter? This new GameTrailers clip gives no idea to how this thirst quenching title will control. We're trying to to get sucked into the hype. (There's that other game to strum us into a frenzy for now.) But here's hoping that Metroid will be a much-needed oasis. (The thing in the desert, not the band.)See the new video for this August 27 game after the break.

And the meaningful updates just keep on coming over at the Smash Bros. Brawl dojo. Today's update reveals Zero Suit Samus' up special move, which allows her to use her Plasma Whip to latch on the edge of the level, allowing her to climb back on up and into the battle. The update also hints at other characters being able to perform this move, causing us to think that either Samus can lose her Plasma Whip to another character or there will be a similar in-game weapon.%Gallery-3347%
