As if we weren't already worried enough about our cellphone causing Blackberry thumb, certain indecisiveness, and, of course, brain cancer, the WSJ is now reporting that according to some leading opticians, portables, especially with small screens and smaller fonts, could be causing irreversible eye strain and damage to our vision. Apparently the action of focusing for long periods of time on small spacial areas held relatively closely to the body -- especially displays with poor contrast ratios, and bad glare -- tends to overwork the eye's ciliary muscles, and might be causing deteriorated vision in the same young group of patients now visiting doctors for other technologically related ailments, like portable audio related hearing loss -- a group far too young to be coming in for their annual eyes, ears, and artificial hip-bone checkup.[Via TechDirt]

I hate to bite off Xboxic two posts in a row, but they have a bunch of darkly impressive screenshots from The Darkness, the comic-based next-gen title from Starbreeze, the same folks who brought us the highy acclaimed Chronicles of Riddick: Escape From Butcher Bay for the original Xbox. Anybody who can make Vin Diesel into a worthwhile playable character deserves our high hopes.

Rikimaru and Ayame return to quench their thirst for sticky hot blood. From Software released some new shots of the upcoming Tenchu Dark Shadow yesterday. Of the images, a couple are worth special note. The game's stylized stealth-kill scenes seem to have made the transition to the handheld as a couple shots show an unsuspecting enemy getting blasted with what could be a bomb or magical attack on the top screen and the death shown in wonderful detail on the bottom. The game is going to be WiFi compatible and slated to release next month in Japan.   [Via GoNintendo]
