Five brand new exclusive Star Trek Online screens. We know open beta is basically here and that screens are now significantly lower on many people's list of priority-one alerts, but this one is for the less fortunate ones. You know, the people with families and 40+ hour a week jobs. There's some cool looking high-end armor to ogle with your optical sensory orbs. Mayhaps you fancy yourself a gentleperson of the finer things in Trek? Well, in that case, we recommend the classic-ish connie style Enterprise. What you can't have? What you can't have, is anything having to do with the show Enterprise or a man known by the name of Archer. No, bad Trekkie!%Gallery-28615%

Click image for even bigger mechs and explosions Just like Capcom has done for Super Street Fighter IV, the publisher's unloaded a healthy dose of new Lost Planet 2 media during CES 2010. In our gallery below, you'll find we've tactically placed seven new screens to study, each with the requisite number of explosions and gigantic metal killing machines. Oh, and light bloom. There's a lot of that. If moving pictures are more your speed, head past the break to observe a group boss battle against Akrid X, courtesy of GameVideos. %Gallery-82253%

Capcom's brought its A game to CES 2010, unloading everything but the proverbial kitchen sink (and the full roster list) for Super Street Fighter IV. There's some new fight sticks to look forward to, new screens and two new gameplay trailers -- which have oddly low volume, for some reason -- showing off those sweet new Ultra Combos. You can check out the new screens in our gallery below, but you'll have to jump past the break for the conclusion of this two-part combo of fresh gameplay clips. It's totally worth it, we assure you. %Gallery-82024%

  • Rumor du jour: Apple ordering 10" tablet screens

    by
    Mike Schramm

    12.28.2009

Another week, another day, another round of tablet rumors for the now all-but-confirmed January event. The latest news bouncing around the Interwebs is that Apple has placed an order with panel supplier Innolux for a bevy of 10" touch panels to stick in the new devices, be they called iSlate or whatever the marketing team eventually hits on the dart board. This vibes with what we'd heard earlier about the screen being either 7 or 10" in the diagonal, and it reveals a little bit more about the process: apparently Apple wanted to go with this release earlier, but they were concerned about the strength of the glass. Now they've got the stronger glass they need, so supposedly the rumors on the wind say they're ready for a January announcement, with a release coming in March or April. They've even got another supplier lined up to crank out even more of these screens if needed. A translated WSJ article also says a Taiwanese company called Chang Uei Precision has been signed up to provide "connectors" for the device, but that sounds quite vague and they say a release isn't planned until Q3 of next year. As always, this all remains hearsay -- Apple hasn't even officially announced an event in January yet, much less hinted that they'll be releasing a revolutionary tablet-style device. So remember what Grandma said about counting chickens before they hatch, and don't. But if any of these rumors prove to be true, it'll be an interesting 2010. [via Engadget]

There's a bounty of new media from CING's Hotel Dusk sequel, Last Window, to check out. Screens and a pair of new trailers await anxious looky-loos and should provide Hotel Dusk fans with a comfortable familiarity -- Last Window pretty much looks like a Hotel Dusk sequel. • Report: 40 million homes will have 3D televisions by 2014

    12.10.2009

In a recent study conducted by Insight Media titled the "Stereoscopic 3D Gaming Report," researchers concluded that the install base of 3D-ready televisions will rise to "over 40 million" by 2014. MCV reports that the $5,000 study's results are based on the statistical outperformance of 3D film over 2D equivalents, as well as "extensive testing of the first generation of 3D games." "We spoke directly with gamers, game developers, and game publishers ... to build a complete picture of the future of gaming," lead analyst Dale Maunu said of the testing. In fairness, when we last saw 3D technology in games, it kind of blew our minds, so we'd like to trust Mr. Maunu -- that being said, we're still paying off these HDTVs. Give us some time, The Future! Come on!

Romulans! They're pretty prevalent in today's exclusive Star Trek Online screens, although they're not the only antagonists fighting against the Federation. You've got to remember never to underestimate the Borg in their ability to frustrate and terrify the Feddies into tossing up shields and blaring red alerts ship-wide. Plus, there's the Klingons, whose very name just sounds sharp and dangerous. We're getting off topic, though. If you like phasers, explosions and majestic Trek style space ships then we're certain you'll enjoy feasting your eyes on these five new screens.%Gallery-28615%

If you're like us, you've probably always wondered what Alderaan looked like before it was blown into space dust by the first Death Star. It's lucky that BioWare seems to feel the same way, as we'll now be able to see the planet in all its regal glory. The first set of screens make the world seem like one whole planet covered by landscape from Washington state, but a closer look at the concept art reveals some truly breathtaking imagery that we can't wait to see rendered into the game. You'll find all the information on Alderaan on the planet's official web page. Since you're probably recovering from either work or turkey we'll leave it at that and let you enjoy the new Star Wars: The Old Republic information.%Gallery-35033%%Gallery-35034%

Lord of the Rings Online is well known for its story, which it has Tolkien's works to thank for -- although Turbine does a great job of making it all come alive. These new Siege of Mirkwood screens depict a few of the new epic story moments players can expect come December 1st when the expansion is made available for purchase. From giant spiders to cozy campfires, much about these new screens inspire. Whether thick with peril or cool and mellow, Siege of Mirkwood looks set to offer its community wonders unparalleled. Yes, we're kind of rhyming on purpose. We blame the poetic imagery seen in the gallery below; its vistas both terrible and cold.%Gallery-78539%

    11.17.2009

Today we bring you five more exclusive Star Trek Online screens, courtesy of Cryptic Studios. We hope you Romulan fans out there are paying attention, because there's one new screen in particular we think you'll find quite... satisfying. Although, as you can see from the image above, there's a little extra Romulan love. We find ourselves wanting to express concern for this lone Connie class vessel attempting to take on a Borg cube. That's just dangerous! We're fairly certain such encounters in the game proper will consist of a substantial grouping of players -- we're sure those screens will be quite something, actually. The fact that many of these screens depict space combat is adventitious indeed, as our current Community Q&A for Star Trek Online concerns the very topic. We'll be taking questions for Cryptic developers until the end of today, Tuesday, November 17th -- so get 'em in while the asking is good.%Gallery-28615%

  • Dungeon Fighter Online offers screenshots and dungeon preview

Mixing side-scrolling fighting action with RPG elements seems like it should go together like peanut butter and chocolate, so the biggest surprise about Dungeon Fighter Online is that no one else thought of it first. The game is still in the middle of its open beta, but Nexon's most recent offering gave us a small preview of some of the dungeons to come in the game as well as a number of screenshots of them in play. Each of the dungeons in question are accessed from a larger hub area, allowing you to whisk yourself promptly off to a specific dungeon, each with its own enemies (and presumably different rewards). The central area Grand Flores, for instance, leads to Mirkwood Frost and Blazing Gaqarak, with the former being a rime-coated expanse of woods and the latter an eternal forest fire. The Sky Tower leads to the Vestibule of Darkness, full of light-dousing goblins and enchanted armor, and the Golem Tower, in which you fight a large number of... well, okay, that one kind of makes it obvious. (It's not kittens.) The Temple of Apostasy leads to the GBL Arad Branch, a library-themed dungeon in which hordes of librarians attempt to surround you with magic and the rage of a thousand cracked book bindings. Last but not least, Noire Ferra includes among its cavernous reaches the Spider's Lair, sure to be a top vacation spot for arachnophobes everywhere. Take a look at our gallery of shots, and if it gets you interested in Dungeon Fighter Online, let's not forget that the game is currently in open beta. %Gallery-77061%

Whenever an MMO hits the big ten-zero, we tend to get a little misty in the ocular slots on our heads. Asheron's Call holds a special place in many a person's heart -- because everyone has a first -- and so this post is for all of you players both past and present who cherish and adore your little personal slice of gaming love. Turbine has plans to run live events throughout the day as part of their celebration, which includes bringing back some of the most loved (and feared) characters and villains. We hope the event is fun for all, and if any players happen to attend why not take some awesome screens and send them into our One Shots feature? You can do so by emailing oneshots AT massively DOT com.

Romulan and Klingon love anyone? That's what you'll find in our five exclusive Star Trek Online screens, one of which you can see above in all its sleek sexy glory. If space isn't your thing -- although if that's the case, you may want to reconsider your interest in space MMOs -- Cryptic is showing off this view of a tropical environment that's making us long for warmer weather. Although, we're much more interested in shots that feature the glory of the Klingon Empire. Well, okay maybe that last one wasn't exactly glorious insomuch that nobody was being blown up. Let's just pretend that all the rubble was the remains of a powerful enemy brought to its knees... yeah. Check out all the new images in the gallery below. • DSi XL FAQ: Sized up

    by

    10.30.2009

Early yesterday, Nintendo of Japan announced the DSi XL (DSi LL in Japan), a larger, larger-screened version of the DSi. It's a big system, and kind of a big mystery, given that the only advance notice we had of the thing was a Nikkei blurb two days prior. While we can't answer the big questions, like how long this idea has been in the works, and whether a bigger handheld is a good idea as an alternative to the DS's continual miniaturization, we can round up what we know and can reasonably speculate about the DSi XL -- right after the jump. %Gallery-76864%

Sometimes you get a phaser blast to the face, and other times you get 12 new Star Trek Online screenshots courtesy of Cryptic Studios. Guess which one is today? Oh, we left our phasers at home so you'll have to make due with these 12 new screens. Good thing we had those on standby for just this occasion. Violent threats involving energy weapons capable of vaporizing you in mere seconds aside, these are some substantially great screens. Whether it's some Cardassian love seen here (SFW, it's not literally alien love making) or various gratuitous space shots elsewhere, there's a whole heck of a lot to soak in visually. And with beta now just beginning, we're sure to have plenty more where this came as the weeks slip on by at sub-space speeds.%Gallery-28615%

  • Prison Break game screens unfold blueprint for escapism

    10.21.2009

Click to see how he did it! Remember that show Prison Break? Yeah, from like the mid-Aughts or whatever. Anyway, Zootfly is making it into a video game. Today, the game's publisher, Deep Silver, released a batch of screenshots and reiterated the plot as follows: "The protagonist of the Prison Break game is Company agent Tom Paxton. He is sent to the Fox River State Penitentiary to find out why Michael Scofield (the hero of the TV series), a man without a previous criminal record, became a bank robber. The storyline runs parallel to the first season of Prison Break: Paxton encounters several characters from the series and experiences key events from his own perspective." But you see, we believe the screens are hinting at a far different plot -- a plot that has to be exposed. Follow along as we guide you through the (totally unofficial -- like, we made it up) blueprint for a Prison Break game ...
