  • Phat Loot Phriday: Mr. Pinchy

We've covered a few noncombat pets here before, but this is the weirdest noncombat pet you've ever seen. If you're a fisherman, this is the reason to get to 375, and if you're not, this is the reason to train it anyway. We mentioned him way back in beta, but he's worth another look.Name: Mr. Pinchy (also known variously as Furious Mr. Pinchy or Benevolent Mr. Pinchy-- you'll see)Type: Noncombat pet... unless he choses to combat youDamage: 180-230 or N/AAbilities: Mr. Pinchy is not just a lobster (although he's named after one on the Simpsons)-- he's a magical crawdad, and he grants wishes! That's right, on use, this crawdad will grant you one of five wishes: 1) The most common result is an item in your inventory called "Mr. Pinchy's Gift"-- once unwrapped, it gives you 5 Super Health and 5 Super Mana potions. 2) Sometimes he will give Mr. Pinchy's Blessing, a buff that lasts for two hours (even through death) and grants a whopping 1200 HP. 3) Sometimes he'll help you himself, and transform into a huge Benevolent Mr. Pinchy that acts as a guardian for about 15 mins. 4) And sometimes he'll get pissed off at you, become Furious Mr. Pinchy, and try to beat you up. 5) But the best wish he can grant is an actual, permanent, BoP noncombat pet named Magical Crawdad. This one's rare, but it's been known to happen. You get three wishes with every Mr. Pinchy, but there's a two-day cooldown between each. Mr. Pinchys aren't unique, but they do share a cooldown. How to Get It: Mr. Pinchy can only be fished up, and only out of those special fishing holes (only reachable by a flying mount) in Terrokar Forest-- the lake in the Mountains west of Stonebreaker Hold, the lake south of Allerian Stronghold, and the lake around the Arrakoa capital of Skettis, to the east of Auchindouin. In those lakes, you want to fish in "Highland Mixed Schools"-- fishing in the regular water will get you fish, but there's no chance of Mr. Pinchy. To fish in the water at all, you'll need a fishing skill of 430 to even throw your line out, so you'll have to pick up some +skill equipment to head up there. Fish will also drop off of your line if your skill is less than 525, so really you want to be up around there if you want to catch fish with any speed. Here's the bad news: each pool gives about 3 or 4 catches, and Mr. Pinchy shows up about every 500 catches-- a .2% rate. That's a whole lotta fishin'.The WoW Fishing Guide has this and lots more strategy on how to get a Mr. Pinchy in your bags. Good luck out there, fellow anglers.Getting Rid of It: Mr. Pinchy will of course disappear when you've used up your three wishes. If you're lucky enough to get a Magical Crawdad Box, that will sell for a measly 25s.

  • The Simpsons coming to 360

LiveGamer's dpcough came across another game that otherwise hasn't yet been announced. EBGames has a listing for Simpsons: The Game, which also says the ship date is 11/1/07, which will probably be around the same time as the DVD for The Simpsons Movie, which will hit theatres sometime this summer. The alleged developer and publisher for the game is EA. So given the track record of console Simpsons titles, could this be good news? Hopefully they'll pull a TMNT, and have a little surprise waiting for us in XBLA around the same time as the retail release.[Via LiveGamer]

  • Rumor: EA to publish The Simpsons Game

According to Siliconera, who claim to have seen "various retailer release lists", Electronic Arts will publish a new Simpsons game called The Simpsons Game, presumably as a tie-in to the movie. After doing our careful research like the responsible journalists we are (we went to EBGames' website), we can confirm that at least one retailer is listing such a game with a tentative release date of November 1st. The game will be massively multiplatform, with versions arriving on the Wii, DS, and pretty much all those other consoles that we don't bother with.Four companies that we can think of have held the Simpsons license: one of them, Konami, made the four-player arcade game; Acclaim made a string of pretty rough NES games and the decent Hit & Run; Activision released The Simpsons Wrestling, and EA is responsible for The Simpsons Skateboarding. We don't really have a point here, except that we kind of wonder what genre this one will be! Kart racing? Pachinko? Who knows with Simpsons games?

Maybe the writers of The Simpsons are PSP fanboys like us, angered by the impending release of the PS2 version of Grand Theft Auto: Vice City Stories. The once-PSP exclusive is moving to the home console, and The Simpsons takes a shot at it through the parody game Death Kill City II: Death Kill Stories. As Siliconera reports, the goal of the game seems quite fun: "You have destroyed all human life on Earth. Level one complete."

  • Cop computers yell "D'oh!" when they spot uninsured drivers

Some Thames Valley, UK cops claim it helps reaction times to have their onboard computer yell out Homer's "D'oh!" when it picks up on uninsured drivers, Jack Nicholson's "Here's Johnny" from The Shining when a stolen car zips by, and Dan Aykroyd's "People like this are a menace to decent society" for crime-linked cars. No word if this newfound reaction time is negated by an ensuing Simpsons-laced quote fest, punctuated with SNL reminiscence.[Via Fark]

Sony Computer Entertainment of Europe is in talks with Sky, trying to get it to distribute content for PSP users. Programs that are broadcast by Sky in the UK and Ireland include 24, Lost, The Simpsons, Deadwood, and more. This partnership will be crucial for Sony's plans in educating the general public about the multimedia functionality of Sony's handheld. The service will supposedly launch by year's end. There's no indication that Sony Computer Entertainment of America will follow suit with a similar program.[Via PALGN]

  • Samsung to release yellow Simpsons Movie phone

We've heard of releasing lappies and cameras based on major motion pictures, and we've certainly heard of getting films on your phone, but Samsung is partnering with 20th Century Fox to unveil a limited edition, yellow handset to commemorate The Simpsons Movie. Having potential to reach a cult-like status in the geek / cartoon kingdom, this still-mysterious phone doesn't yet have a fleshed-out spec list (nor a finalized design, apparently), but we do know that it'll be yellow in color, have a special Simpson's logo, and come "pre-loaded with exclusive The Simpsons Movie content." While we aren't expecting anything special out of the phone itself, we'll be interested to see the eBay value of these bananas come July of this year, and hopefully by then we'll know a good bit more about the minutiae. Click on through for a few more pics.[Via AVing]

The Simpsons may have jumped the shark so long ago that the shark has long since died of natural causes, but that isn't stopping Matt Groening and Co. from creating the long awaited movie. Our close and oh so personal friend, Major Nelson, informs X360F that a trailer for the Simpsons movie is now available on Marketplace. It is available in every region except France, but, as groundskeeper Willy would say, the French are nothing but a bunch of "cheese eating surrender monkeys" anyway. (Seriously, I love France. Paris is a lovely place and it's actually given me some posts in the last few days. If you've got a problem with the phrase "cheese eating surrender monkeys," I suggest you take it up with Matt Groening.)

A couple of weeks ago on Fox's The Simpsons, grandpa attempted an assisted suicide, Soylent Green-style. To get the job done, the doctor connected him to the "diePOD" while he watched "...footage of cops beating up hippies." It was pretty funny, and macTV has the clip. Check it out.

  • Lenny gets a high-def plasma

Did everyone catch last nights Simpsons? The entire show is about how great high-definition is and the lengths that people will go for a plasma. Lenny threw a big party to announce it only to have Homer camp out on his couch for 3 days watching random crappy programing. That sounds somewhat familiar doesn't it? 10 bucks says that a producer on the show just got his (or hers) first HDTV. Is this a sign of the future? Is the Simpson's going high definition? We sure hope so.
