This week has been video-heavy, so thought thought we would take a light-hearted approach with this week's video spotlight. You've seen tons of great new trailers and gameplay footage all week, so let's join hands and trek back in time ... to see the latest video games.Wait, what? No, that doesn't make any sense, and we know it ... at least, until you see these 2D renditions of some of Nintendo's most exciting upcoming titles. The videos aren't the newest, so maybe you've seen them before, but they're no less awesome for all of that.

Konami invited some lucky press folk who've been at TGS to sit in on a kind of Snake retrospective. Chronicling the career of the big guy, they even took some time to chat about his upcoming foray into the world of smashing. Kojima showed off Snake traversing some of the levels in Smash Bros. Brawl, as well as utilizing some of the game's unique items. We can't wait until his dojo update ...[Via Go Nintendo]

  • Dojo update: Piplup makes it into the game

Today's dojo update shows one of the three stars of Pokemon Diamond & Pearl making an appearance in the game. As the water-based choice for trainers starting out in Diamond & Pearl, Piplup is one cute, yet deadly, creature. In Smash Bros. Brawl, Piplup uses its Surf attack to wash away enemies. Once hooked in its attacks, your enemies will be washed to either side of the level and perhaps plunged over the edge of said level. Basically, the more simple the level, the easier it is for Piplup to wash your enemies off the stage.Hit up the galleries below for some images of Piplup in action.%Gallery-6869%%Gallery-3347%

  • Achievement quest to be rewarded with Smash Bros

Jason Cipriano of MTV's Multiplayer blog is something of an achievement whore. Of course, we know a little something about achievement whoring around here, but Jason has come up with a very interesting challenge. See, Jason is a Smash Bros. fan (we have a soft spot for the series too) and very soon he will find his achievement whoring and the upcoming Wii title Super Smash Bros. Brawl at odds with each other. According to Jason, Smash Bros. will easily take precedence, but he doesn't want his gamerscore to suffer for it. To this end, Jason has decided that he will accumulate 10,000 more gamerscore points before he allows himself to play Super Smash Bros. Brawl. If he wants to do that before the game releases, he currently has about 11 weeks left to do it. Oh, and did we mention he already milked Fuzion Frenzy 2, MLB 2K6, and King Kong? Yeah, well he has. Best of luck Jason, you'll need it (if you want to play before next year anyway).

The Subspace Army hs quite the plethora of enemies. Featuring a diverse squad, our favorite enemy out of the bunch presented has to be the R.O.B. Squad. The other enemies lack that bit of Nintendo nostalgia that the R.O.B. Squad brings to the table. Some of the enemies have weak spots that are explained, as well. ... is worth a thousand insults. As soon as we saw the inclusion of customizable taunts in yesterday's WiFi-tastic Smash Bros. Dojo update, we started drafting up the four jeers that we'll be arming ourselves with when the game comes out. We quickly dismissed the mundane ("U GOT PWND LULZ"), instead investigating ideas more ridiculous ("It's over 9000!") and annoying (Spamming, "Hi, I'm Daisy!" while playing as the brunette princess.).What put-downs are you planning to use to demoralize your friends? We've already decided on the four bits of scurrilous text that we're going to map to our D-pads: "so much depends upon," "a red wheel barrow," "glazed with rain water," and "beside the white chickens." That's right, we're going to drop poetry on you suckas.

  • Dojo update: Super Smash Bros. Brawl online multiplayer confirmed

var digg_url = 'http://digg.com/nintendo_wii/Online_gameplay_confirmed_for_Smash_Bros_Brawl'; Nintendo fans have been gnashing their teeth and chewing their nails over this one for months, but now we can all relax and release that long-held breath: Super Smash Bros. Brawl is going to take the fight online. And we're not talking about lesser online features, either, but head-to-head matches with your friends or with anyone in the world. The dojo promises other online features as well, but this is the big deal and thus was revealed first.Of course, because this is Nintendo, there are some inherent protections within the non-friends play. When you choose to play with "anyone," you will not see your opponent's name, and there will be no records kept of your victories (or your painful losses). But at least you can play, so we're not going to complain. This latest update also cautions that online play across continents may be slower than a match with someone relatively close by. In the end, most of the focus seems to be on friends-only play, but that was to be expected, and we're frankly excited that the "play with anyone" feature was added at all.[Thanks to everyone who sent this in!]

We knew we forgot something on Friday. The dojo updated and we surely dropped a big ball in not informing you of the return of the Ice Climbers. We're quite happy to see them returning, just as you undoubtedly are.Today's update brings news of a new kind of item: the Golden Hammer. As a more powerful and rare form of the normal hammer, it allows players to float in the air. And, like the normal hammer, it's also known to occasionally be a dud.%Gallery-6869%%Gallery-3347%Read - Ice ClimbersRead - Golden Hammer

    09.13.2007

It looks like Smash Bros. Brawl will feature a lot more creativity in setting up custom battles than possible in Smash Bros. Melee. As you can see above, you can do a lot in setting options for each match, such as messing with the camera and game's gravity. As if we needed anything else to crank up the replay value in this game ...%Gallery-6869%%Gallery-3347%

Meta Knight's battleship is the subject of today's dojo update, revealing the newcomer's stage. Combatants start out the fight inside of the hangar, eventually taking the fight onto the back of the ship. Here, the crafty fighter will have to dodge a deadly gun, as well as a robotic arm. Also, the ship will play a large role in the Subspace Emissary, but that exact role has yet to be revealed.%Gallery-6869%%Gallery-3347%

Another Assist Trophy was revealed over at the dojo today in Lyn, a character from the GBA game Fire Emblem. Wielding a weapon of similar stature to another Assist Trophy, her attacks are more deliberate and less on the reckless side like Samurai Goroh. Aside from that, the site suggests that once you summon her, you grab your enemy and hold on to them, allowing her attack to hit them point blank for massive damage. %Gallery-6869% %Gallery-3347%

    09.10.2007

We used to love it when Snorlax would come crashing down and lay a beating on anyone within his range in Super Smash Bros. Melee. Now, there's no reason why he still can't be in Brawl, but considering his pre-evolved self Munchlax is the focus of today's dojo update, the odds just got more slim. Oh, and Munchlax doesn't have the capacity for violence as Snorlax, deciding to instead eat any item in his sights rather than attack the fighters.%Gallery-3347%%Gallery-6869%

    09.07.2007

Today's dojo update focuses on music, revealing the customization of choosing your own tracks to listen to on any stage in the game. You can unlock new music by picking up CDs within the stages of the game, as you can see above. Good thing the music in the Smash Bros. franchise of games is so good, otherwise we'd be complaining about the inability to play our own mp3s during play.%Gallery-3347%%Gallery-6869%

    09.06.2007

Today's dojo update can be seen as both good and bad. Good in the way that the Pokemon Stadium level from Melee has been updated and, depending on how you feel about a certain game, bad in the respect that Mario has received an update to his roster of moves. Looks like the plumber won't be wielding those fireballs of his anymore. As for Pokemon Stadium 2, the upgrades look like they're going to add a bit of fun. Especially when the stage morphs and allows all of the players to jump extra high. Update: Some of the comments are pointing out that the latest update doesn't necessarily confirm that Mario won't have his fireballs anymore. Since they were left out of the update (and considering his Final Smash move), we just assumed. Sorry about that.%Gallery-6869%Read - Mario's special movesRead - Pokemon Stadium 2

While we've had plenty of updates involving the other new characters in the game, Meta Knight has been fashionably late. And, while this latest update lacks any substance beyond some screenshots of the character in-game, we're sure tomorrow will have something a bit more substantial. That is, if past updates are any kind of indication.%Gallery-6869%

When the Pokemon Trainer character was revealed, we immediately started wondering about how his squad of Pokemon would change the game. Would their damage be exclusive to each individual Pokemon, or would they share one overall damage? What would their movement be like? What would their special moves be?Well, today we get an answer to that last question, as the dojo has revealed Squirtle, Ivysaur and Charizard's special moves. The final verdict? They look awesome.%Gallery-3347%

Today is a double update over at the dojo, revealing the assist trophy of Andross (the boss from StarFox) and Meta Knight's special moves. Andross' inclusion in the game (which is quite awesome, we might add) has him taking up the role of assist trophy, as once he is summoned, he quickly retreats to the background and gets ready to spit out a stream of ploygons set to damage your opponents.%Gallery-3347%Read - Andross assist trophyRead - special moves breakdown

Today's update over at the dojo reveals a new item in the superspicy curry. Once it is eaten, the character who ingested it gains the ability to shoot fireballs from their mouth. Not to be confused with the fireflower, these are small bursts of fire that can also be used mid-combo to add some damage. All in all, looks like a great addition to the already long list of deadly items.%Gallery-3347%
