First shots of Canon's EOS 40D DSLR?
Color us exceedingly skeptical, but a poster over at DPReview managed to grab what appears to be the first legitimate shots of Canon's elusive EOS 40D before the source jumped ship. Granted, there would be more shock now if Canon wasn't actually conjuring up a 40D, but if these images prove real, maybe we're a bit closer to newfangled DSLR heaven than originally conceived. Additionally, it was noted that the Exposure Mode Dial now seems to have three custom function settings, and there's even an option for sRAW (likely a reduced sized RAW) in the image-recording quality choices. Verizon's product pipeline in the wild
We can take this picture and file it under "sneak peek" and "blurry" all at the same time. From what we can make out here, it seems Verizon sets in motion plans to launch several devices in the month of August. From the Motorola Z6tv at top left, to the Q9M (remember the iPhone killer?), the Motorola RAZR 2 (aka V9m), Samsung i760, and UTStarcom XV6800 should all be making an appearance this coming month. Unfortunately, we've no new details surrounding this elusive handset, but a few more pictures never hurt anyone. Go on, click through for a couple more glimpses at the 8GB N95 getting cozy beside a few of its soon-to-be rivals.
Wii's Guitar Hero III Les Paul unearthed
As the axe battle continues to heat up, here we have a first look at the Guitar Hero III controller for the Wii, which looks an awful lot like the first Les Paul-modeled iteration we saw -- save for that handy Wiimote slot and Nintendo-esque toggle switch, of course. Reportedly, the white faceplate is also removable, but we know the most of you won't want to disturb the color mojo that will be going on between your Wii and Gibson. LG's Chocolate L704i snapped in the wild
In case LG's L704i managed to slip under your radar in the midst of all those other NTT DoCoMo handsets, here's a few pictures of it in its prime. 'Course, we wouldn't stare too long if you're stuck in the US of A, as all the wishing in the world isn't likely to get this piece of Chocolate to the States. Nevertheless, it does manage to look awfully sexy when grasped, so be sure to click through for some more hands-on excitement.[Via JustAMP]
Sony's 'Flagship' and 'Advanced Amateur' Alpha DSLRs nearly here?
If you can think back to March for a second (we know, it's a stretch), you may recall Sony's two mysterious Alpha DSLRs posing inside a restrictive glass container. The codenamed "Flagship" and "Advanced Amateur" models have since made their way onto Sony's official website, hinting that these two may be hitting shelves sooner rather than later. Of course, Sony isn't the only big gun with potential DSLR plans swirling in the backroom, so don't be surprised if these two happen to coincide with rival launches that are supposedly forthcoming. Unfortunately, details beyond face value are still unknown, but feel free to leap on through to take a peek at the Advanced Amateur Alpha on its best behavior.[Via AkihabaraNews]
Sony Ericsson's M610i Lizy snapped in the wild
While we much prefer the looks of a recent Sony Ericsson concept over this here handset, we're sure the M610i Lizy will excite its fair share of owners, regardless. The stubby candybar-styled handset looks to sport a prominent touchscreen and a keypad that reeks of 1999, but we did hear that this device would indeed be a tri-band GSM member, and would include Bluetooth, WiFi, FM radio, an integrated camera and a Memory Stick Micro card slot. 'Course, we're all still waiting on something official, but hopefully it'll get somewhat of a facial rework before vying for our attention at the mobile store.
Microsoft working feverishly on answer to iPhone?
You've already seen bits and pieces of this morning's Today Show, but another segment in the broadcast managed to grab a trip inside Microsoft's Mobile Design Lab where engineers and "audio geeks" look to be hard at work as they try to "redefine cool." Notably, the video fails to show any undercover shots of prototype mobiles that Microsoft may have up its sleeve, and it seemed that this "sneak peek" was intentionally devoid of innovation (secrets we can't know about?). Nevertheless, we do get a chance to see dedicated ringtone makers, and while it's already understood, any future mobiles coming out of Redmond will reportedly attempt to cram "as much of your PC into your cellphone as possible." Best of all, however, is the aptly-dubbed isolation room, which left the interviewer grumbling over how tough it was to peck out an email on the tiny keys of his smartphone. And whether you want to believe it or not, Robbie Bach was seen stating that the iPhone "doesn't change Microsoft's strategy nor its approach."
Nokia's geometric 7500 gets pictured
No word on official specifications or anything of that caliber just yet, but it looks like the geometry-inspired 7900 handset has an awfully similar sibling as well. Nokia's 7500 was caught on camera initially in a "spy picture" that resembles a horrific attempt at creating a Microsoft Paint masterpiece (seriously, it's after the break for your protection), but an entirely more stunning iteration hit the 'net shortly thereafter giving more legitimacy to its reality. Toshiba's Portege R500 laptop in the wild
Just after seeing Toshiba's mysterious X200 roaming free in France, it looks like that isn't the only machine from the firm running wild in the land of fragrances and fashion. The ultrathin Portégé R500 was also spotted in Paris recently, and while we wish that NTT's 3D glove contraption was already a reality so we could feel this thing for ourselves, we'll just have to judge from afar for now. Gateway's 14-inch 295 series tablet PC spied
Note to Gateway: don't pass along secretive information about unannounced tablets (even to students) unless you don't mind it getting out. That being said, it seems like a new 295 series of tablet PCs could be hitting the education market (and beyond) real soon, as the device was candidly spotted in numerous education order forms. Dubbed the E-295M by the University of South Dakota, the convertible apparently comes stocked with a 1.8GHz Core 2 Duo processor, 2GB of DDR2 RAM, a 60GB 5400RPM hard drive, modular DVD burner, seven-in-one multicard reader, a PC Card slot, FireWire, a trio of USB 2.0 connectors, and Intel's GMA x3100 integrated graphics. You'll be staring at a 14-inch WXGA display and fiddling with the included stylus while ignoring lecturers, and the gigabit Ethernet and 802.11b/g WiFi should keep you well connected to the things that matter most. Of course, pricing details for the general public are likely to change, but those headed to USD can place their order for $1,699.
Sony Ericsson K850 / K530 handsets get spotted
No sooner than Sony Ericsson goes and makes the K850 and K530 (amongst many others) official, it looks like there's already been some hands-on action with a pair. Reportedly snapped at the recent Sony Ericsson product launch in Hong Kong, the five-megapixel K850 cameraphone was oohed and ahhed over, but the not-exactly-soft soft keys and lack of backlighting seemed to be a bit of a drag. The K530 was admittedly in early prototype mode, so not much was known other than it still sported the generic model designation of SE123. Universal Remote's MX-810 gets previewed
Universal Remote's company name leaves little unsaid about what its core competencies truly are, and its latest professional-series remote recently got a bit of hands-on time with the crowd at Electronic House. The MX-810 Pro Wizard was purportedly designed to work with setups ranging from a single room to an entire home, and sports a color LCD, 44 hard buttons, RF / infrared compatibility, rechargeable Li-ion, and hot keys for powering up select groups of components. Interestingly, this unit also includes 32MB of built-in memory to store commands that control "up to 24 activities for each of 24 different devices programmed into eight LCD pages." EB's Mobile Internet Device snagged by Engadget Chinese
We've got to give credit where it's due, and our Chinese extension is definitely delivering the hands-on goods of late. The most recent device to get caught under their camera is EB's Menlow-based MID UMPC, which was seen still sporting a 4.8-inch 1,024 x 600 resolution display and packing Red Flag Linux, WiFi, Bluetooth, GPS, a 3.5-millimeter headphone output, and WWAN connectivity to boot. Of note, it seems that the version they caught could still see some changes before the final release, but do your eyes the favor of hitting the read link and viewing the gallery for yourself.
HP Compaq's 2510p laptop snapped in the wild
Sure, Apple's latest 15-inch MacBook Pro may have stolen the thunder from HP Compaq's 2510p by getting its LED-backlit machine out to customers first, but for the purely Wintel crowd, this one's sure to please. In some foreign lair, the amigos (and chicas) over at TecnoSquad were able to apprehend a loose 2510p laptop long enough to snap a few detailed pictures showing off its exterior and even its posture while parked in a docking station. You already know what's inside, so make sure you leap past the jump in order to catch some external photos including one that unscientifically shows it as the brightest of the three pictured machines.
Creative's Zen Wav caught on video
We know, no one was expecting the minuscule integrated speakers within Creative's Zen Wav to be anything more than a mild joke, but just in case you wanted to hear this thing with your own two ears before plunking down the cash to pick one up (or point and laugh), TechEBlog's got you covered. In this brief hands-on look, Creative's Zen Wav is videotaped in a cradle pumping out a sample jam that admittedly highlights treble, but at least it's at least somewhat listenable. Of course, judging the audio quality based on a handheld camcorder is a far cry from scientific evaluation, but click on through anyway for a quick listen and look at the Wav in action.
Forthcoming Netgear WiFi Skype phone caught on video
While watching Netgear's CEO play around with its "version 2.0" WiFi Skype phone certainly isn't as riveting as seeing the Nissan Dualist mech run around the streets of Ginza, the crew over at LiveDigitally was able to snag a few precious seconds of Patrick Lo's time in order to catch a glimpse of the aforementioned device. The overall design doesn't deviate too much from the existing rendition, and while Mr. Lo didn't get into the nitty-gritty per se, he did drop word that it'll be lighter, smaller, have a much improved GUI, last longer on a single charge, and "work seamlessly" with hotspots. Unfortunately, there wasn't even a hint as to when we'd see this thing hit the market, but click on through if you're interested in seeing the (very brief) interview.
Lenovo's ThinkPad Reserve Edition gets a teaser site
Nearly a month after Lenovo teased us with its Olympic-inspired laptop, and just days after loosing a bevy of Santa Rosa machines on the world, Lenovo is catching our eyes once more with an admittedly lacking teaser site for a Reserve Edition ThinkPad. The very non-interactive website sports an annoying background track, a cheesy selection of closeup leathermaking shots, and absolutely zero information about an actual computer. Of course, one could theorize that the firm has a leather-clad lappie in the pipeline for the affluent set, but it's not like you can't get that already. Nevertheless, this certainly isn't the first nor the last time we'll see such tease acts in order to hype up a currently unreleased product, but hopefully the deets on this one will end up surfacing as quickly as those on the Beijing machine did.[Via LenovoBlogs, thanks to everyone who sent this in]
Ugobe's Pleo packaging unveiled, battery now replaceable
Unfortunately, we don't have any surefire news that Ugobe's long-awaited Pleo is actually any closer to shipping, but considering that a design has apparently been decided upon for the packaging, we'll take that as a hint. Ugobe's founder Caleb Chung was quoted as saying that the "photos on the box are nearly life size and are designed to convey the wonderful range of expression and organic movement of which Pleo is capable," and continued on in order to mention that the final version of the dino would sport a battery that's both rechargeable and replaceable. Lastly, he threw in yet another phrase of confidence that the device was "getting really close" to actually launching, but considering the false alarms we've seen in the past, we're not banking on anything until this bad boy invades a few homes.
