We know, you're a firm believer that there's evidence of thaumaturgy splattered all over here, but believe it or not, all it takes to create a camera in a new color is powerful signature and a little paint. As Pentax has done so often in the past, it's pumping out new editions of old cameras with fresh hues. The latest duo to don new Springtime wardrobes is the K20D -- which is now outfitted in titanium -- and the K-m, which now sports an absolutely peculiar olive shade. Both models are being limited to 1,000 in quantity, and while no price is mentioned, we get the feeling a ticket to Tokyo may be your only shot at acquiring one.Read - Olive K-m, via PhotographyBLOGRead - Titanium K20D, via PhotographyBLOG

There's nothing super special about this exclusive-to-Walmart Xbox 360 controller, other than the fact that it's adorned with a ferociously awesome dragon, a beautiful lady, and an old-timey telephone, and it comes bundled with a terrifyingly hideous headset -- but we bet your new Xbox Experience avatar will appreciate the effort you put into sprucing the place up before his / her arrival. It's on sale now and can be yours for $49.74. [Via Xbox 360 Fanboy]

HP's got the Special Edition itch again, and it's scratching it with both hands as evidenced by the newest dv4t and dv5t SE notebooks. Starting with the former, we've got a flashily designed 14.1-incher with a WXGA panel, 4GB of DDR2 RAM, a handful of Core 2 Duo CPU choices, NVIDIA's 512MB GeForce 9200M GS, up to 400GB of hard drive space, WiFi, optional WWAN and an integrated HDTV hybrid tuner. The equally fashionable Pavilion dv5t SE sports a 15.4-inch LCD, a GMA4500MHD integrated graphics set, optional Blu-ray writer and most everything already mentioned on its smaller sibling. You can snatch either of these up for $1,099.99 / $949 (or higher) right now, but we'd make sure you really dig the tattoos before making a decision you'll regret forever.[Via Notebooks]Read - HP Pavilion dv4t Special EditionRead - HP Pavilion dv5t Special Edition

  • Gears of War 2 canvasses special-edition Zune

Microsoft couldn't let the gory, highly-anticipated launch of Gears of War 2 (chainsaw duels! Rhhhahaararggg!) pass without bloodying a Zune or three in the process, Halo 3-style. Specifically, Microsoft has laser-etched that pesky little "Crimson Omen" onto a glossy black Zune 120, pre-loaded the device with 244 pieces of "Gears of War" media -- the soundtrack, concept art, behind-the-scenes vids and so forth, nothing you won't be able to find elsewhere -- and squeezed it all into some "collectible" Gears packaging, featuring our testosterone-addled protagonist pondering the meaning of life. The whole kit will run you $280, with pre-orders at Walmart.com and Amazon.com (and a whole mess of Canadian shops) starting at 3AM PT / 6AM ET. It'll start shipping on November 7th. And still can't sync to your Xbox. Close-ups after the break.

  • 007: Casino Royale Collector's Edition first Blu-ray Disc to double-dip

Studios just love to re-release older titles just before a follow-up film hits the silver screen, and Sony's making darn sure it milks the 007 franchise for every dime it's worth prior to Quantum of Solace landing in theaters. Not only are six Bond classics slated to hit Blu-ray on October 21st, but now one of Sony's best-selling 007 BD titles will be joining 'em. Yep, 007: Casino Royale will be re-released in a Collector's Edition with seven hours of new material, free e-Movie Cash to catch the aforesaid QoS in cinemas, Bonus View picture-in-picture visual commentary with Director Martin Campbell and Producer Michael G. Wilson and a "Know Your Double-O" BD-Live-enabled multi-player trivia game. To our knowledge, this is the first Blu-ray title to double-dip, as we're not counting the whole Fifth Element fiasco as a true double release. Prepare to spend $38.96 for the 2-disc Blu-ray set or $29.95 for the 3-disc DVD package.[Thanks, Chris]

  • Tales of Vesperia special edition has many tales to tell

Tales fans likely don't need extra incentive to secure a pre-order for Tales of Vesperia; the only question that remains is if they're happy with the regular version or want to pony up the extra gald for something shinier. Besides being wrapped in metal and artwork by series character designer Kosuke Fujishima, the $69.99 Tales of Vesperia special edition will also include a soundtrack CD celebrating a decade of console role-playing. While specifics haven't been revealed, Namco Bandai notes that of the 25 songs included on the disc, a hefty 14 will be pulled from Vesperia, with the remainder coming from Tales of Symphonia (4), Tales of the Abyss (3), Tales of Phantasia (2) and Tales of Destiny (2). However, as much as we enjoy our ears, this limited offering is a step back from the Big Daddies and cat helmets we're used to, though we doubt that will stop fans from switching their pre-orders over in the run up to the game's August 26 release. • Limited edition 90210 iPod nano surfaces, we hardly believe it's real

Man, it has been quite awhile since we've seen an iPod of any sort get dressed up in limited edition attire. Thinking back to those Harry Potter, Madonna and Tony Hawk editions, we can't help but wonder how this one missed the boat. Coincidentally (or not) enough, the CBS Store has decided to offer up a special run of 8GB Beverly Hills, 90210 iPod nanos just as The CW pushes the all new rendition of the show. Buyers can add up to 30 characters of text and choose black, pink, green, blue or silver hues, but you better hurry -- who knows how fast raving fans will be handing over their $269 in hopes of securing one.[Via ChipChick]

  • Limited Edition lust: A visual journey

Here in the U.S., we're finally seeing a few more colors, though nothing to compare with the rest of the world. That's not the only area in which the DS is lacking, either; we've missed out on some truly spectacular limited edition systems. While we get the somewhat lackluster Guitar Hero DS, Japanese DS owners are rolling around with eye-searing yellow Pikachu Lites, plain-Jane Final Fantasy Lites, the gorgeous silver Lite for It's a Wonderful World, and even a Bathing Ape DS. If you happen to be sitting on a mountain of cash, you might have one of these, or another example of a fantastic Japan-exclusive. It's more likely, however, that you're like us when one of these babies debuts; you sit at your desk, tears slipping down your cheeks, as you press one forlorn hand against the screen. Since it's Monday, let's get all this week's wallowing and depression out of the way right now with a little journey through some of the special editions the world has seen -- from the ones you could get to the ones that were a little out of reach. Prepare to drool.

If, for whatever reason, a Tony Hawk-branded Sidekick LX just isn't your bag, how's about this limited edition alternative? Aside from actually being more than a figment of someone's imagination, Kyocera's $99.99 Virgin Mobile Festival Special Edition Wild Card is definitely in the running for longest mobile name of all time. You'll also find a few musical touches added in, like the 50 free eMusic song downloads (enthralling, we know), graffiti-style Festival graphics, exclusive wallpapers and a one-year subscription to SPIN magazine. Interested consumers can look exclusively at Best Buy for this one until July 31st (unless the 15,000 are snapped up earlier), and make sure you bring it to the Baltimore Festival for gratis access to the Virgin Mobile Guest Lounge -- sure to be stacked wall-to-wall with nerds just like you. One more shot after the jump.

We'd recommend taking this one with a healthy dose of salt, but word on the street has it that Tony Hawk -- being the unashamed Sidekick lover that he is -- is gearing up to receive his very own limited edition LX. Oh, and his adoring fans can snap one up too if they're quick. Details about the unit itself are scant, but it will obviously be Tony Hawk-branded and able to do a 900 on command. We are hearing, however, that it's slated to land on July 16th -- just in time for the T-Mobile sponsored Boom Boom HuckJam, too.[Via Hiptop3, image courtesy of AOL]

  • Limited edition Bronze PSP now on sale, likely to remain that way

    04.24.2008

We're still trying to piece together why in the world Sony would choose matte bronze as the color for its latest PSP Slim, but now that it's out, we're focusing our attention on just how long it takes these so-called limited edition units to actually sell out. The Value Pack it comes bundled in includes a Japanese version of the handheld, 32MB memory stick, cleaning cloth, a case, AC adapter, battery pack and an AV cable for good measure -- unfortunately, a can of black spray paint actually isn't in the box. A last minute exclusion due to shipping regulations, we're sure. Grab one if you're into it for $278.97.[Via DCEMU]

Many of you will no doubt recall the gorgeous and very, very yellow limited edition Pikachu DS that remains painfully unattainable to us. With no official release planned for the hardware, we began to give up hope on ever owning one, but it looks like Nintendo could be offering another two Pikachu Lites to winners of a new contest being held to promote Pokémon Mystery Dungeon twosome Explorers of Darkness and Explorers of Time. You can enter once a day between now and May 21st, when a couple of lucky winners will clinch themselves a treasure chest containing the most beautiful DS Lite known to man, a Wii, a HDTV, and more Pokémon goodies than they can shake a stick at. Ah, Japan -- it just gets all the dope controllers, doesn't it? Just days after hearing that a Wii-white GameCube controller was headed there soon, a lucky, lucky member of Club Nintendo has unboxed his limited edition Wii Super Famicom Classic Controller. Yep, this token of nostalgia that we heard about way back in November of last year has finally arrived in the Land of the Rising Sun. Really, we can't believe you -- being the diehard Nintendo fanatic that you shamelessly are -- haven't already made it to the read link to check out the gallery of shots, but we won't ask you to test your patience any longer. • GTA IV 40GB PlayStation 3 bundle surfaces in Europe

    04.07.2008

If you're still licking your lips while gazing at that limited edition GTA IV Xbox 360 Elite, you may have the opportunity to make your GTA-branded console ownership dreams come true in a slightly different manner. Out of seemingly nowhere, a Grand Theft Auto IV PlayStation 3 bundle has popped up on a Swedish retailer's website, offering a 40GB PS3, a copy of the game, a decorated box and little else (DualShock 3?). Judging by the package art, we're guessing there's no suave paint job waiting on either side, and Webhallen has the unit priced at 4,499 SEK (or about $755). Before you ask -- there's no telling whether this thing is headed stateside or not, but surely Sony / Rockstar Games wouldn't let such a moneymaker swim around the US of A, right?[Via N4G, thanks John]

  • Warner planning to release "book-like" Blu-ray sets for collectors

Now that all studios can focus their efforts on cranking out titles for a single format (well, almost), it's no surprise to hear that Warner is already planning a few special sets for the hordes of collectors out there. Early reports are suggesting that the aforementioned firm will debut a series of "book-like" Blu-ray packages on March 25th with the unveiling of Bonnie & Clyde. Apparently, at least nine other films will follow suit, offering movie buffs a "handsomely bound volume containing rare and never-before-seen archival material." As for exact titles, we're hearing that Dirty Harry, Woodstock, Gone with the Wind and North by Northwest could be among those chosen (no Matrix?), but Warner could re-release hits such as Blade Runner and certain Harry Potter selections as well. Interestingly, it seems as if HD DVD followers will also get the chance to indulge with the red release of Bonnie & Clyde, but there's been nothing said officially either way just yet.[Via The Leaky Cauldron, thanks Kellan]Read - Warner Plans Ten Blu-ray "Book" Releases for 2008Read - Warner to Bow "Ultimate" Dirty Harry

  • Rare Yoshi edition DS Phat tests your love of Nintendo

    12.14.2007

Sure, you've bought every console since the original NES, monitor forum threads religiously for any Wii bashing, and may even have a Koopa tattoo somewhere on your body, but are you enough of a fanboy to pay $500 for first-generation Nintendo DS emblazoned with a wire-frame cartoon dinosaur? Well apparently eBayer "joedick" is one such individual, whose $480 Buy-It-Now-dollars earned him one of the only 200 "Hot Summer Yoshi" edition DS Phats ever made, which were part of a larger series of six versions available only to Club Nintendo members in 2005. Congratulations, good sir -- just remember not to play with it or anything, or you won't be able to sell it for ten times what you paid a few years down the road.[Via DS Fanboy]

  • Olive intros flamboyant Opus No5 Karim Rashid Editions

    12.05.2007

Considering that Olive's Opus Nº5 already buried the compact disc (or so we're told), it makes sense to jazz up the unit and dance all over the CD's grave. Consequently, the outfit has sought out Karim Rashid to design four new motifs for the digital audio player, but internally, all the hardware remains the same. As for color choices, you'll find the darkened Digitalia, the rainbow-themed Fusion, Spectra and Morphologic waiting to be had, all of which will run you a dollar short of four grand and arrive with 750GB of storage space. Bargain hunters, you're better off elsewhere.[Via CNET]

    12.05.2007

It's about time we started counting down the days until the standard Zune actually becomes the most sought after -- you know, considering that a limited edition iteration seems to pop out every other week or so. This go 'round, we're being teased with an oh-so-shiny Goods-branded version, which looks to come in both 8GB and 80GB flavors. Apparently, they'll be available somewhere in Seattle this Saturday for the first ten customers with deep enough pockets, but we've yet to find out if ten of each flavor (or just ten total) will be for sale. Hit the read link for a few more pics, and feel free to drop your best guess at next week's special edition Zune in comments.[Via GotZune, thanks Chris]

  • Nintendo's DS Lite Bundles are a real pair

    11.20.2007

Sometimes those rumors are spot-on. Just like we heard, Nintendo is launching two special-edition Nintendo DS bundles for the holidays. The Gold edition ships with The Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass while the Metallic Rose ships with the Best Friends version of Nintendogs. Each comes emblazoned with the series' signature logo, "a shiny nugget that any gamer -- girl or guy -- would be proud to show off." Right, 'cause all gamers love to show off their nuggets. Available on November 23rd for an undisclosed price, though expected to be $150 like the rumor said.
