Valve has issued a call to arms for all amateur Team Fortress 2 item designers, charging them with the responsibility of filling the game's Steam Workshop with as many spooky, gross or otherwise Halloween-y items as possible before the scaring season officially begins on October 1.Incidentally, this means that there are already a whole bunch of adorable/icky new items floating around the Workshop, such as this cute lil owl or the Cortex Command exposed-brain Pyro mask seen above. We're especially fond of Sir Spooky, a rather fancy ghost who actually seems quite friendly, rather than terrifyingly macabre. He reminds us of another "friendly ghost," in fact.Yes, you know who we're talking about – The Ghost of King Hamlet.

  • Woven's wearable platform for gaming, cool points and a whole lot more (video)

TshirtOS showed us one take on wearable gadgetry earlier this month, and now it's Woven's turn. This particular e-garment packs quite the selection of hardware, as you can see above -- a trio of LilyPad Arduino boards (and some custom ones), a Bluetooth module, 12 x 12 RGB LED "screen", speakers, bend sensors, a heart rate monitor, shake motors and a power pack. You'll need to accessorize, of course, with a smartphone for hardware harmony and to run companion apps. So what's it for, you ask? Well, the creators are touting it primarily as a "pervasive" gaming platform, and even seem to have a working first title in the form of SPOOKY (think gesture-based ghost-fighting). Other uses (which appear a little more conceptual) see Woven as a workout companion, TV remote, Wii controller, social network alerter or simply a fashion accessory. Check out the videos below to see it in action and imagine all the fun you could have in the five minutes before you're ushered into that padded room.

It's true what The Grand Wizard says, you know, anything really can happen on Halloween. To prove it, Phosphor Games is dropping the price of its excellent, creepy iPhone adventure, The Dark Meadow, to $2.99 from now until Oct. 31. What's that you say? A timed discount isn't proof of Halloween magic? Well, what if we told you the game was also getting an update in addition to the price cut, including 4S optimization, multiple save slots and a whole list of improvements we've got after the break? Now do you believe? No? What's wrong with you? Have you no heart? Also: Has anybody seen my tambourine?

It's not too late to sign up for Riot Games' Institute of Horror, brought to you by League of Legends and your deepest, darkest nightmares! During the Harrowing event, fright-proof players can enjoy Halloween goodies and decorations sprinkled around their favorite maps. Skin collectors (ew) will be delighted to hear that there are four frightfully fascinating variations to nab, as Annie, Blitzcrank, Nidalee and Nocturne now boast a spooky makeover. The dark and twisting corridors of Moria are definitely not for the weak of heart. But today's One Shots sent in to us from Isndyl of The Old Timers Guild on the Gladden server in Lord of the Rings Online shows that Isndyl certainly isn't one of those overcautious souls. As Isndyl writes: After nearly a year long journey, I find the hidden entrance... Someone on the bank shouts 'get out of the water you fool!' I turn around only to see my journey is near its end! Hopefully our brave adventurer didn't get nommed on too badly.Screens like this certainly show off why Lord of the Rings Online remains a steady favorite for people to send in! Do you have a great screenshot of your character wandering around; in caves, over hill, or across plains? If so, pack it up and send it to us here at oneshots AT massively.com along with your name and what game it's from. Epic stories are always welcome, but never required to get your screenshot posted here.[Note: Image has been lightened slightly to bring out detail.]%Gallery-9798%

There's nothing quite as intimidating as running smack into a freshly-spawned boss that comes out of the mists to attack you and then disappears. In this season of tricks, treats and things that go bump in the night, we were glad to see today's One Shots come in from resident Warhammer Online fiend Snacky. This time Snacky sent in a great spooky shot, along with the following note: Since Halloween is just around the corner, I thought this might be appropriate. During a recent skirmish in the Tier 3 Graveyard map, this massive NPC called Soul Reaper appeared. He then proceeded to briefly attack the opposing force before he disappeared into the mist. I must say how delighted I am at the many special touches Mythic has incorporated into this MMORPG. It is so rewarding encountering them. Calling all people enjoying holiday events -- we need your Halloween screenshots! We know there are awesome Halloween events going on across the MMOGosphere, and we'd like to show off some of the fun for players going on right now. So, if you've participated in a Holiday event, send your snaps in to us at oneshots AT massively DOT com along with your name/server/game and a quick description of what we're seeing in the image. That way everyone can check out what's so cool about your favorite game's holiday events, too.%Gallery-9798%[Note: Small image lightened slightly to show detail. Full-size gallery image unaltered.]

In a cross-marketing deal that can only be described as a stretch, New Line Cinema is giving away a Nintendo Wii in a contest to promote its upcoming thriller The Number 23. Why, you may well ask? Well, W, which, as you may know, is the first letter of "Wii," is the 23rd letter of the alphabet, which has two points down and three points up. Spooky, huh! Here's some other coincidences totally creepy connections between the Wii and the number 23.
