Quentin Tarantino's The Hateful Eight doesn't officially hit theaters until Christmas, but a DVD-quality rip is already floating around the internet. This shouldn't sound too surprising though -- major holiday releases have been popping up online for the past decade, especially once award season screeners start shipping out. In this case, the FBI traced the leak to Andrew Kosove, co-CEO of Alcon Entertainment, according to The Hollywood Reporter.Apparently, a screener of The Hateful Eight was sent to his office and signed for by an office assistant. Kosove claims he's "never touched" the disc, so there's a good chance someone else at his office snagged it and uploaded the film. Reports claim The Hateful Eight was downloaded between 200,000 and 600,000 times in its first day, and naturally it's already made its way to pirate DVD vendors in major markets.

Famed film director Quentin Tarantino is well-known for his purist cinematic tastes and revelry of antique movie production techniques. His fondness for old-school cinema is on full display in his upcoming release, The Hateful Eight, which is being captured only in 70mm and shown as glamorous "roadshows". While the rest of the industry films almost exclusively in digital these days (not to mention that movie houses have long since mothballed their 70mm projectors) Tarantino has been dead set to make this movie on film. In the Fandango featurette below, he explains his reasoning for this insistence and why it's good for the fans.

We always thought the Leguizamo-infused Super Mario Bros. film had the propensity to be amazing, if only a more visionary director had grasped the reins of the adaptation. The video we've posted after the jump gives a look into a parallel universe of what could have been -- a universe where Quentin Tarantino had control of the plumber's first silver screen excursion. The video was produced by the folks over at GamerVision. You might want to brush up on the trailer for Tarantino's upcoming film Inglourious Basterds before you check it out -- their video is a shot-by-shot remake of said trailer, only it takes place in the Mushroom Kingdom instead of Nazi Germany. We never thought about it before watching the video, but the similarities between these two regions are actually rather striking.[Via DumbDrum]
