  • Epic: Gears of War 2 Title Update 6 is 'about a week' away

Epic has posted the Title Update 6 patch notes for Gears of War 2 and the biggest bullet point has to be the ability to join matches in progress. Not only can players now join Horde matches mid-game, the update adds a new Social Xbox Live playlist which lets players join matches in progress and doesn't penalize those who quit early -- but it's only available to those who have all of the DLC. The new Social list also bypasses matchmaking screens and cycles to the next map immediately following the conclusion of the current match, cutting down on the time spent in menus. The update addresses certain exploits, such as the ability to get out of the map on Subway and Blood Drive, and also improves the pellet grouping on the Gnasher shotgun "to increase hit consistency." Rod Fergusson, senior producer on Gears, says players can look forward to downloading the update in "about a week." We'll let you know when it's live. The online world of Uncharted 2 is getting one of its biggest updates ever this week. Title Update 1.07 went live yesterday, fixing a few glitches and exploits, while addressing unbalanced spawn points. Later today, the Siege Expansion Pack will be available for purchase, adding "two new maps, six new multiplayer skins, one new co-op game type and 11 new online-only Trophies." You'll be able to buy it on the PlayStation Store for $5.99. Naughty Dog isn't quite done with the multiplayer festivities, though. In addition to the new DLC and update, all multiplayer participants can enjoy Double Cash bonuses all weekend. That means players -- newcomers and veterans alike -- will be able to rise up the online ranks twice as fast. If you haven't played online recently (or at all), this is certainly one of the best opportunities we can think of to start.

  • PSA: Xbox 360 USB storage update now available

The Xbox 360 system update enabling USB storage is live and ready to help you explore the joyous world of non-proprietary storage options. Rules are the same as previously noted: USB devices need to be over 1GB, but can only use 16GB of available storage. Users can use two sticks at once for 32GB, but can switch out units any time, limiting their storage potential by how many USB devices they've got lying around. The update takes approximately five minutes with a standard cable connection. For those who don't believe in internets, the update will also be available on the branded 16 GB Xbox 360 USB sticks set to debut in May.

digg_url = 'http://www.joystiq.com/2010/03/26/xbox-360-usb-support-announced-coming-april-6/'; Look at Major Nelson, dropping the scoop about USB drive support being added to the Xbox 360 like it's news to you. It's adorable. Okay, okay, so he did have some new information -- like a launch date. April 6 -- but otherwise things seem to be exactly as we laid them out a week ago: You'll be able to use up to 16GB of two separate USB-based storage devices for a total of 32GB of extra storage. He also offered some new screens! Experience the face-melting user interface excitement of right here.

We know you probably flew into a rage when a recent Title Update denied you a few precious seconds of Metro 2033 play time, but we've been assured by developer 4A Games that it's all for a good cause: To prepare for upcoming DLC. On the game's official Facebook page, a spokesperson confirmed that additional content was in the works, but didn't provide much detail, saying only that multiplayer would be impossible and that "it won't be new SP narrative content, 'missing levels' or anything like that - it's something we're only just starting production on." Wait, it won't be new single-player story bits or multiplayer, so what does that leave? While novel, we're not sure "Flashlight Hand-Cranking Time Attack" would be a huge step forward. • Ion Assault update adds new mode, simpler controls

Black Inc. has announced that Coreplay has released an update for its Xbox Live Arcade shooter, Ion Assault. The free update adds a new survival mode to the game which, unsurprisingly, has players fighting for their lives against waves of increasingly dangerous enemies. Additionally, the update also adds a new control scheme, which allows players to directly aim the ship using the right analog stick. Previously, the right stick rotated the ship left and right. It's not the most fluid control scheme, and was one of our only complaints about the game when it was released last year. The new controls are available in the trial version as well as the full version, so you may want to give it a spin if the original controls put you off the first time.

  • Uncharted 2 title update 1.04 'fixes' multiplayer data syncing issue

    01.27.2010

Just in time for tomorrow's DLC update, Uncharted 2 is receiving another title update. Patch 1.04 only addresses one issue, but it's a crucial one. Players affected by a rare "error syncing player data" issue will be able to connect online after downloading this patch. Unfortunately, the fix comes at a huge price: all multiplayer stats will be wiped for those affected by this glitch. "This is going to happen ONLY to the accounts who couldn't connect because of the "error syncing player data" message. Everyone else who has been able to connect and play normally will be entirely unaffected," Naughty Dog's Arne Myer told the community. For those that have yet to see the error message, the patch will come as just a minor step to take before jumping online. However, there are a select few that will lose a great deal of time and effort. "This was not an easy decision for us to make. Over time it became clear to us that there was absolutely no other option remaining to eliminate this issue for all affected." "If there was an alternative that didn't require rolling back the affected accounts, we would have implemented that in a second." Hopefully, you weren't unlucky enough to be stricken by such an unfortunate situation.

A new (and free) title update, now available for the PSN-exclusive Comet Crash, introduces new levels, maps, battle settings and an "expert" difficulty mode to the Tower Defense-style game. What sets Comet Crash apart from other titles in the genre is the game's offensive gameplay, allowing players to send waves of their own forces against an ongoing alien threat. Aliens as enemies in a video game? Creativity! According to the PlayStation Blog, the 1.03 update includes: "Expert" difficulty setting for seasoned Comet Crash players. 4 new Resurgence levels -- one unlocked at the end of each comet during the Campaign. 4 new Battle maps. Battle timer setting. After the timer runs out, all mobile units generate at 8x the normal rate. Thorium setting to tweak available resources in Battle mode.

We've got good news all around for fans of Twisted Pixel's 'Splosion Man, as well as advocates for tender red meat. The developer has announced that a title update has fixed laggy online multiplayer sessions and added those unlockable Avatar awards to the highly combustible Xbox Live Arcade platformer. To unlock all four shirts seen above (two for female Avatars and two for males), you must accomplish two feats: break a single pane of glass (easy!) and beat the entire co-op campaign (considerably less easy). Oh, right, the meat thing. In one of the greatest nonsensical partnerships in the history of civilization, Omaha Steaks has teamed up with Twisted Pixel to give away "hundreds of top-quality steak filets" to 'sploders across the nation. To register for the giveaway, just download and equip a special 'Splosion Man gamerpic, and then play a few online multiplayer matches before November 22. If you win, you get steaks. If you're vegan, you give them to us. Source – Title Update for Splosion Man [PDF]

  • Operation Flashpoint patch coming alongside first DLC

Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising is set to receive a network optimization patch alongside the game's first DLC at the end of October, according to executive producer Sion Lenton. In an interview with Eurogamer, Lenton said the team at Codemasters has planned for more downloadable content, but has yet to decide what the new content will be. "It's not a lot of fuss for us to make new content - it's actually quite easy for us to get it out there, with regards to things like levels, game modes, etc," Lenton said. What is being fussed about are the bevy of balance issues players of the military shooter have vocalized on the game's official forum. According to Lenton, the upcoming patch is set to make the game "flow a bit better." The patch comes at a good time, hoping to catch players before they "flow" directly into that other military shooter launching in November. %Gallery-67532%

Cheaters beware! Epic's Rod Fergusson recently popped into the Gears forums to let everyone know that Gears of War 2's fifth Title Update is currently in the works and will hit Xbox Live sometime soon. The new update will not only add some new features to the game -- no more "sticky walk" and you'll be able to see friendly grenade plants in Tac/Com -- but will also put an end to a rather nasty cheating hack that surfaced shortly after TU4. Cheating in Gears -- who'da thunk it?We'll be sure to let you know when the TU5 is available. [Thanks, Kyle B]

  • Left 4 Dead updated with new Achievements, Infected HUD improvements

    09.22.2009

The Xbox 360 version of Left 4 Dead has received a title update. One visible effect of the patch is that total number of Achievements on the Achievement screen has been updated from 50 to 60. (You'll also notice that this blogger's point total was knocked down to zero. It's not that low, I swear.) The Infected HUD has also been improved to include special attack timers for each member of the Infected team. Very handy if you want to know when your best buddy will be able to spew on the hapless victim you've just ensnared. More than likely, the update is being rolled out in preparation for the impending "Crash Course" DLC, which is rumored to release September 23 (a.k.a. "tomorrow"). [Thanks, CJ. Via Hell Descent]

Coming just before the new DLC, which is sure to renew interest in Grand Theft Auto IV, Rockstar Games alerted us to a new Title Update that will make the game a bit harder for jerks, but more playable for the rest of us. It apparently fixes the glitch that allows players to appear invisible, and disables "cheat code exploits" in multiplayer.Frankly, we're shocked to hear of cheating in Grand Theft Auto IV. That's immoral. Everyone should just play nice so that we all have a good time performing murder sprees in stolen automobiles. %Gallery-3442%

Epic is waiting on certification for Title Update 4, the latest major update to Gears of War 2, but that didn't stop Rod Fergusson from hitting the forums and dropping some info. First of all, Public Horde matches will now have the ability to restart on a failed wave, instead of having to go all the way back to square one. Then there's the addition of experience to Horde mode (which we knew about), which Rod says will break down as follows: 50 points per completed Casual wave. 75 points per completed Normal wave. 100 points per completed Hardcore wave. 125 points per completed Insane wave. Epic is also adding Achievements for the new Dark Corners DLC and updating the game with 325 more points of delicious Gamerscore. Head past the break for the full list.

After revealing the patch last month, SimBin has finally updated its exclusive Xbox 360 simulation, Race Pro. Some of the tweaks include: ending a game crashing bug when 12 players joined or left a session; allowing players with DLC to start sessions with those who don't; and some other stuff that would make this a really long paragraph.More general changes include the enhancement of vehicle deformation and an attempt to offset online leaderboard shenanigans. • Gears 2 'Snowblind Map Pack' coming March 31, title update on March 24

If you tire of brutishly halving your enemies in the same boring Gears of War 2 locales, a recent Epic Games announcement will likely thrill you to death -- on March 31, the title's second batch of downloadable arenas, titled the "Snowblind Map Pack," will find its way onto Xbox Live, bringing four new maps to the chainsaw party: Grindyard, Under Hill, Courtyard and Fuel Depot, a remake of a map from Gears the First. No price has been announced -- we're assuming it'll be around the same 800 price point of the "Combustible Map Pack."Arguably more exciting than this, however, was Epic's announcement that the oft-discussed retooled ranking system will be coming to the game the week before "Snowblind" drops -- a title update on March 24 will (mostly) eschew the criticized TrueSkill system in favor of a more intuitive, experience point-based system. Players will earn experience points for scoring in public matches, rising up to level 100. They'll even unlock achievements at set levels (5, 15, 25, 50 and 100) -- we also hear that "Cole Train" evolves into "Cole Barge" at level 60. Gotta curb stomp 'em all!

EA Sports' Football World community manager, Romily Broad, has revealed the upcoming FIFA 09 DLC, Ultimate Team, will be priced at 800 / $9.99 US (£7.99). For the uninformed, Ultimate Team is a fantasy soccer management mode that will allow gamers to assemble their fantasy teams by collecting virtual cards in various categories. Footy fans should take note, this isn't regular DLC. The content will drop as a mandatory -- and free -- title update on March 19 (clocking in at about 1.3GB). Gamers will receive a five match trial with the option to shell out for the full version. Mandatory 1.3GB title update? Comcast -- and Rogers Cable -- users had better schedule their bandwidth usage accordingly.

  • Second Gears of War 2 update squashes bugs, adds Achievements

    01.21.2009

We've had the month of January circled in our brand new 2009 "Hot Men of Epic" calendars since we first caught wind of the promised – and much needed – second Title Update for Gears of War 2. As we cruise into the end of the month, Epic Games producer Rod Fergusson – Mr. January himself – sends word that the patch is now live as of 5am Joystiq Time. What's included in said patch? Frankly, we don't have the time (or the e-ink) to go through everything but we'll hit the big'uns. First up is multiplayer, and this update "addresses a large number" of "exploits and issues" and tosses in some "balancing tweaks" just to make things fair. For those of you looking for "moar" achievements, this update adds "7 new DLC-based gongs." Still voting with your dollars, refusing to pick up the $10 (800) Combustible map pack until all-things-multiplayer are a-okay? Let's hope this latest update gets us there but, just in case, four of those seven new achievements need only the Flashback Map Pack that came bundled free (0) with every new copy of the game. Buy it used? Steal it from that smelly kid in your dorm? No worries – $5 (400) now grabs you the maps on the Marketplace. For the full epic list, check out Mr. January's post.

Each of the new achievements are DLC-based. In order to unlock all seven new achievements, players will need to get their hands on the Flashback Map Pack, free for gamers who purchased the game new but also available on the Marketplace for 400 and the Combustible Map Pack, available for 800.Complete patch notes and achievement listing after the jump.

  • Fable 2 bugs squashed with title update

Look, no one is going to enjoy tomorrow's Knothole harvest if it's infested with bugs. So, Lionhead has dusted the crops, so to speak, and removed those icky pests from Fable 2 (read: automatic title update released). While the seeds were planted back in October, and some in-house sampling has been going on for the past month, it's only now that we all can enjoy the fruits of Lionhead's labour:Title update patch notes The Ritual/Monk's Quest -- "fixed the issue with the Abbott becoming unresponsive if you leave Oakfield before he finishes talking. This will fix the problem if you've already hit it, too." Rescuing Charlie/Rescue My Baby -- "after rescuing Charlie, you can now interact with objects." Guild Cave chest -- "resolves any issues with previous inability to retrieve items unlocked from Limited Collector's Edition, website or Chicken Kickin' game. If you've already hit this bug you should now get your items." The Spire (Part 2) -- "no more issues with ship captain being unresponsive." The Hero of Skill (Pirate King) -- "you'll no longer get stuck during Hero of Skill quest." T.O.B.Y./Trouble In Bloodstone -- "you'll no longer get stuck during T.O.B.Y. quests." Your child "will no longer be chosen as an assassination target." Furniture Shop in Albion (Bowerstone) "will now always have something for sale." Additional unspecified fixes In addition, the "Tales of Albion" companion site has been updated with Knothole lore.[Image Credit: Linda N.]
