Even after all this time, Tony Hawk's stance is firm regarding the poorly received Shred and Ride games. He thinks critics made up their mind before giving the games and associated peripheral an honest chance -- even in the case of Ride, which he admits "was a bit rushed" due to time spent prototyping the board.

During an interview with Tony Hawk at GDC, the skateboarding icon told Joystiq that Tony Hawk's Pro Skater HD works as an HD update of the first two games, and as a potential platform for more content. Robomodo and Activision could add levels from Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 3 and/or 4, it could be added as DLC instead of a new remake of those individual games."The dream of doing this is we can throw levels from 3 and 4 and make them downloadable in this," Hawk said. "We can use this as a foundation and platform for that. I really want this to be a foundation we build on so we can do more levels, more skaters, more content that you can download because this is kind of revolutionary to do a franchise game as only downloadable.""We thought we'd start relatively small and just do the best of the first two games and hope to build from there," Hawk added, but it's just wishful thinking right now. We followed up with an Activision spokesperson who said "Activision will see how THPS HD does and go from there." But is it possible? "Yes, certainly," the spoksperson added.

Look, we're not going to sit here and pretend the Pro Skater series wasn't as much of a staple of our adolescence as everyone else's. We loved poppin' sweet kicks in 1999 and we expect to love it just as much 13 years later with Tony Hawk Pro Skater HD; especially after looking at these spot-on reproductions of the Warehouse and School 2.Besides the Warehouse and School 2, the Mall, Phoenix, Hangar, Marseilles and Venice have also been confirmed for the remake. But honestly, we'd rather Robomodo focus on getting this soundtrack situation sorted out before they move on to paltry trivialities like "levels" or "characters" or "physics" or "skateboards."%Gallery-145293%

We cornered skateboarding figurehead Tony Hawk on the red carpet at this year's Spike Video Game Awards to get the skinny on that big announcement he has planned for the show -- as it turns out, the announcement is ... a Tony Hawk game! "Tony Hawk Pro Skater HD" will apparently take "select" levels from the first two Tony Hawk titles, HD-ify them, and wrap it all up in a neat digital package for "digital platforms" sometime in the first half of 2012.Hawk told our man on the ground, Mike Schramm, that classic levels "School" and "Downhill" would make appearances, but didn't let on any more. The game will assuredly get a blowout tonight as the VGAs commence, so stay tuned! Or, uh, go watch old trailers of Tony Hawk Pro Skater 1 and 2. Either/or.Tony Hawk Pro Skater HD will be the first entry in the series after an ambiguously worded shuttering of the franchise by publisher Activision late last year. Clearly the series isn't quite dead yet!Update: Tony says the game will apparently arrive sometime during the summer, and will be priced "under $20." Also, we saw a brief bit of gameplay, and it looks pretty!
