Toys R Us is holding another of its periodic Pokémon giveaways next week. If you're still playing Diamond and/or Pearl (or if you want to load up for Platinum), bring your DS and game to a local TRU between March 8 and March 21, and you can pick up the "Colossal Pokémon" Regigigas. If you are planning on getting Platinum, a Regigigas might be a worthwhile provision. According to the news item, having a Regigigas in your party in Platinum causes Regice, Regirock, and Registeel to appear periodically in Sinnoh. Can you really sit by while Pokémon go uncaught? See you at TRU.%Gallery-25539%[Via Kotaku]

  • Toys R Us testing the waters of the used games business

When you happen to stumble upon a $2 billion sales arena which requires almost no initial investment to enter, it makes sense to jump right into it -- regardless of the tremendous girth of said arena's reigning champion. This appears to be the modus operandi for the giraffe-fronted retailer Toys R Us, who is currently entering the used games racket for a trial period in select stores nationwide, as evidenced by an in-store advertisement snapped by Cheap Ass Gamer user phear3d.Speaking to a clerk at the store which contained the promo (embedded after the jump), phear3d learned that the trade-in program is being tested at certain stores over the next few months to see if the company wants to incorporate it on a wider and more permanent scale. We spoke with a corporate Toys R Us representative, who confirmed the program is being tested "in a couple New York stores." He informed us the used games program is not occurring at the Times Square location, but wouldn't give specific locations when asked, as the company doesn't "really give information about tests going on in [its] stores." Furthermore, he couldn't discuss the details of the program, as that also falls under the purview of "testing," which the company won't elaborate on. If you've seen a sign for the program at your local store, please feel free to let us know the location and we'll try to get the details.Hopefully, we'll see a return to the now-defunct "Geoffrey Bucks" system of the late '90s -- we've always thought the one thing missing from modern used trade practices was tangible, non-transferable paper currency.

  • Totally rad, red Xbox 360 spied in Toys R Us fine print

Is this for reals? If so... yay! If the above screenshot of a Toys R Us terminal is to be believed, there might be a new, red Xbox 360 Elite on its way to a shelf near you. Details beyond the SKU are pretty scant, but the price is the same as the current Xbox 360 Elite model -- $399. We know a certain, fashion-conscious avatar who is going to be really excited if this is true.[Via Joystiq]

  • Rumor: Red Xbox 360 spotted in Toys 'R' Us product database

A listing for a red-colored Xbox 360 Elite has made itself known, thanks to a Toys "R" Us employee who sent Kotaku a snapshot of the SKU, which allegedly appears in the store's inventory database. The red Elite's "item inquiry detail" makes note of the console's $399 price tag (which is the current cost of a black Elite), but no other product details are mentioned. It's speculated that this red'licious console could be the mysterious Resident Evil 5 bundle. If true, consumers will have another Xbox 360 color option to express their individuality. It would also make creating a Hello Kitty mod much easier.

With the release of Pokémon Platinum a little over a month away, we're beginning to find ourselves relapsing into feverish pokémania. If you've ever known the thrill of a full-to-brim Pokédex, we're sure you've got the bug as well -- which is why we're sure you'll be excited to hear that Toys R Us will be offering a free download of the legendary Grass-type pocket-sized monster, Shaymin, from now until Saturday. Just pop into your local TRU with your copy of Diamond or Pearl in download mode, and snag the lil' guy.Shaymin comes in two distinct (yet equally delicious) flavors -- "land form", which is how he'll appear once you've plucked him out of the Wi-Fi ethers, and "sky form", which he'll change into should you trade him to Pokémon Platinum. Rumor has it that the toy store will offer another downloadable 'mon in mid-March: the towering Regigigas -- not to be confused with Reggie-Giggles, our nickname for Nintendo of America's equally statuesque president.

Have you been Left 4 Dead-ing by your lonesome? Halo 3-ing without helpers? Castle Crashers-ing with no cohorts? Yaris-ing by yourself? Okay, that last one didn't exactly work, but you catch our drift -- if you're in the market for an extension (or revivification) of your Xbox Live Gold subscription, Toys R Us is selling the 12 month (plus one bonus month) subscription cards for 40 percent off, or $29.99, from now until Saturday. This deal is applicable either online or in your local brick-and-mortar TRU, but only one of those options affords you the opportunity to ride on a tiny, delightful carousel. Choose wisely.

Nintendo now has their own "store within a store" inside the gigantic Toys R Us on Times Square in New York City. The 1,000 square foot Nintendo department includes an "interactive Wii wall" that offers demos of Wii games, in addition to eight DS demo units. The installation also includes a gallery of Nintendo artwork from past and present. "Nintendo experts" will staff the area and answer questions about Nintendo products. All of this is in addition to Toys R Us's "R Zone" video game area, which will continue to stock Nintendo stuff as usual. Finally, people in New York City will have a dedicated Nintendo store to visit without having to travel all the way to ... The Toys "R" Us flagship store in Times Square now features a 1,000 square foot Nintendo department store inside of it. The Nintendo section features a DS bar with eight playable handhelds, a gallery of Nintendo images and is staffed by "Nintendo experts." It's really not that different from what you'd find at the Nintendo World Store, near Rockefeller Plaza.Although we don't quite get the point of this second store (other than to make loads of money, of course), it certainly speaks to the power of the Nintendo brand ... especially among the TRU demographic.

  • 360 Deals: Toys R Us' Xbox 360 BOGO half off and more [update]

    08.17.2008

Update: In our deal excitement, we mistakenly informed everyone that Toys R Us was running a buy one get one free sale on all 360 games. Sadly, that isn't the case. It's actually a buy one get another HALF OFF sale. Our apologies, someone will be fired over this ... promise. This week, the usually Xbox 360 deal-lacking Toys R Us stores are holding a pretty solid week long sale where, for their entire 360 catalog, they're holding a Buy 1 Get 1 half off sale. On their entire catalog! That's pretty dandy ... you know, just saying. Next up, at Circuit City, they have GH: Aerosmith (game only) for $50, GHIII (game only) for $40 and are giving away a $10 gift card with purchase of SoulCalibur IV. This week at Best Buy, they have Quake Wars for $40 as well as a pre-order offer for EndWar to receive a beta invite and a pre-order offer to receive Infinite Undiscovery foil packaging. That's it from Best Buy. Finally, Target's one 360 deal is a free The Force Unleashed wall graphic with pre-order. Happy shopping!

Supposedly, the image on your right are silhouettes of new pocket monsters set to premiere in Nintendo's upcoming cash generator Pokemon Platinum. For those of you with very good sight, that would be them to the right of this text right here. Japanese site blue skY is reporting that this image is an advertisement from a Toys R Us in Japan. We'd like to comment further, but up until today, we didn't know there were Toys R Us chains in Japan. For those of you who're Pokemaniacs, care to comment on these? Do they resemble the shapes of other Pokemon?[Via Go Nintendo and Pokemon Platinum]

  • Toys R Us having trouble honoring Wii deal?

    08.04.2008

As you all know, there's a decent sale going on at Toys R Us. Now, the deal is supposed to include Wii Fit, and even shows it in the bundle of applicable titles on their website (click here for screen grab), but, according to one of our readers, store employees may not be hip to their own employer's sale. Our good friend Zachary was, in fact, denied Wii Fit as part of this sale. According to the screen grab, as well as their circular (which also lists Wii Fit as eligible), Toys R Us should be including this in their sale. So when reader Zachary showed up without either, they would not allow him to include Wii Fit into the mix. Your best bet, both Zachary and our eyes, is to go down to your local shop with one of these in hand and, if they aren't willing to comply then, always ask for a manager. Hopefully he/she will be a bit more knowledgable than the regular staff.Oh, and if you're looking for another game to pair up with Wii Fit, we'd suggest you check out Boom Blox. [Thanks, Zachary!]

Wii owners should head over to Toys R Us next week (or, toysrus.com), as the retailer is having a good deal on Wii titles. From 8/3-8/9 (and even starting earlier in select stores, according to ads), if you buy a Wii game that costs $29.99 or more, you'll get $20 off a second Wii game.Fortunately this deal includes games with peripherals, like Wii Play, Wii Fit, DDR, and Guitar Hero. That is, of course, if you can actually find said games (silly old Wii Fit) in stock.Does anyone plan to use this deal to pick up a long desired title?[Via CAG]
