  • Toys R Us buy one, get one half-off next weekend

The problem with the Easter weekend is that it's one of the many holidays celebrated the world over without presents. Like, how can you enjoy your time off of school or work or whatever without a hot new gametape to solve? Well, thanks to Toys R Us' buy one, get one half-off sale, you just may be able to. On April 2 and 3, stores nationwide, as well as the retailer's site, will offer the sale on its entire stock of video games -- among other, non-gaming goods. That means you could buy a copy of Dragon Age: Origins and snag Awakening for half-off. Or you could pick up a couple copies of Battlefield: Bad Company 2 and get a friend in the mix for relatively cheap. Sharing is caring!

Nintendo is adding an ambulatory flourish to its Pokemon HeartGold/SoulSilver launch, celebrating the PokeWalker accessory with a guided walk around New York City's Times Square. On Sunday, March 14, Pikachu footprints will be placed around Broadway Plaza, inviting fans to trace the trail of the fictional giant rat, with live demonstrations of the game and accessory along the trail. Nintendo's usual launch events take place at the Nintendo World Store in Rockefeller Center, but this one is located in (and around) the Times Square Toys 'R' Us. Should you show up at the NWS, you'll just have to do a little extra walking.

  • Valkyria for $20 with MAG or ME2 purchase at Toys R Us, other games on clearance

Be honest -- regardless of which of the Great Console War's factions you side with, you're either going to purchase MAG or Mass Effect 2 at some point next week. While you're doing so, Toys R Us will be running a pretty sweet promotion: purchases one of those games and also grab Valkyria Chronicles on PS3 for just $20. Now, we realize the 360 diehards out there will have little use for this game. However, we suggest sending it to your favorite PS3-loving comment-sparring partner. Think of the hours of entertainment they've brought to your life! If tactical RPGs aren't your area of expertise, we also suggest checking out the rest of Toys R Us' site for a killer clearance sale on a number of games and accessories. You'll have to dig through a disheartening pile of Imagine titles to find the valuable chunks of ore -- don't let it break your spirits! It's worth it, we promise.

Toys R Us will feature a "buy one, get one half off" game sale on all console and some Nintendo DS software starting the day after Christmas (that's December 26) through January 2, 2010. The sale covers all Xbox 360, Wii, PS3, and PS2 titles, along with Nintendo DS games that are $20 or less. Remember that TRU now accepts game trade-ins, although dealing with the customer service desk the day after Christmas will likely be a nightmare -- just imagine all those parents trying to return the white Zhu Zhu Pet because their kids wanted the brown one. Stores open at 8:00AM on December 26 for those who want first dibs on the discounted games.

In a refreshing move, Toys R Us revealed some November video game deals for Sunday, November 22 through Thursday, November 26, available both in-store and online. Therefore, they won't require you to stand outside in the middle of the night or battle other deal-seekers for possession of a "doorbuster" (which Toys R Us is also reportedly doing). Even better, Toys R Us is the only retailer we know of handing out Cold Stone gift cards with purchases. Starting on Sunday: all DS and PSP games will be buy one, get one half off. Wii and Xbox 360 Arcade hardware purchases will be bundled with (seriously) a $15 gift card for Wendy's, Subway, or Cold Stone Creamery -- deal available in-store only "Select video games" will be bundled with a $25 iTunes gift card -- deal available in-store only The Beatles: Rock Band standalone software will be $49.99. The Beatles: Rock Band "Special Value Edition" will be $134.99. "Select video game storage units" will be $34.99. TRU says that, when purchased as part of this set, the DS comes out to $64.99. .nounderline a { text-decoration: none; } Check out Joystiq's Black Friday Game Deals Hub or jump to a retailer guide below: Best Buy | GameStop | Kmart & Sears | Target | Toys"R"Us | Walmart For more Black Friday coverage, check out Black Friday Deals, Cyber Monday Sales, And other Black Friday 2009 stories today from Walletpop.com

  • Toys R Us expands layaway to include consoles, adds hardware to trade-in program

Toys R Us announced today that its "Big Gift" layaway program will now include video game hardware. TRU CEO Jerry Storch states that it was the "number one" request from customers. For those who don't know what layaway is: it's the practice of a company holding onto a "purchased" product until the customer has paid for the item in full. For the TRU program, customers must deposit 20% of the console's total purchase, including tax, and a "$10 service charge." Payments can be made at the store in cash, check, credit card ... wait, what? If someone has a credit card, then -- nevermind. Payment must be made in full before December 6. There will also be a fee for canceled orders and the program is not available in Maryland. The retailer is also expanding its video game trade-in program, which began in September, to include video game hardware. The program begins this Friday, November 20, and works almost the same way as the software trade-in: customers go to the "guest service desk," their items are scanned, an offer is made and they receive a gift card if all is approved. We've listed all consoles and handhelds available for trade-in after the break.

Don't want to grow up or pay full price for video games? A list of purported Black Friday game deals for Toys R Us has shown up online, with a few temporary price drops that may justify a late night or early morning trip to TRU on November 27. Most of the great deals are "5AM Doorbusters," which means that if you have yet to pick up Halo 3: ODST, Need for Speed Shift, or Forza 3, they'll all be $34.99 ... at 5AM. Good luck! Also marked down at that obscenely early hour: Dead Space Extraction, which most of you have yet to pick up. It'll be just $24.99. Whether any of that is worth getting up at ridiculous o'clock to fight each other over is your call. See the full list of deals here. We've got some good news for anyone already feeling just a bit overwhelmed by the impending holiday game season. Toys R Us is running a "Buy 2, Get 1 Free" sale this week for all video games. Even better, the sale also covers accessories and items like Microsoft Points cards. Intrepid NeoGAFers have even uncovered some pre-orders that qualify for the promotion (any Dark Void or Bayonetta fans out there?). The sale ends Saturday, October 17, so hop to it if you're looking to save some cash. [Via Cheap Ass Gamer]

If our late-night review of Halo 3: ODST filled you with an unbridled desire to purchase the noir-filled shooter, Toys R Us will have quite the deal on the game's launch day. Those willing to travel to the giraffe-approved retailer this Tuesday are eligible to receive an ODST action figure and a $20 gift card with their purchase of the title. We suggest spending the complimentary Geoffrey Bucks on another action figure to keep your lil' trooper company as you spend the next few weeks exploring New Mombasa. Make sure you don't purchase any Master Chief action figures, though. There's no reason to give the poor guy an inferiority complex. %Gallery-72961%

  • Wii getting $50 price drop this month? One Toys R Us ad seems to think so

    by
    Paul Miller

    09.14.2009

Of all the fakeables in consumer electronics, the weekly newspaper ad has to be one of the easiest marks. Still, this one looks pretty legit, and if it's real it means either we're getting a much overdue Wii price cut on September 27th, or someone on the Toys R Us ad team has been severely misinformed. If it's not true and we have to wait another holiday season for the Wii to break the $200 mark, we're not getting Nintendo that Snuggie we promised it for Christmas -- everybody knows only good little boys, girls and multinational game companies get presents. • Rumor: Toys R Us ad leaks $50 Wii price cut

    09.14.2009

No, not to $50, though that would be an awesome way to tie up this holiday season for Nintendo. Kotaku shared this possible excerpt from a future Toys R Us ad, showing Wiis for sale for just $199, with Wii Sports, effective September 27. Now, we're not going to call this true or confirmed or anything that implies we have any confidence in this image. In fact, there are a few possibilities: It's real (yay!) The art of faking retail ads has advanced significantly since the run-up to the PS3 Slim release, and it's a convincing fake It's real, but the "price cut" term is actually referring to a Toys R Us sale (still yay, but not universally so). In any case, just don't buy a Wii until late September. You've waited almost three years anyway!

Oh, Toys R Us, you never fail with the good game deals. The latest offering from Geoffrey Corp. is a "buy 1 get 1 half off" sale this week on all Xbox 360 platinum and PS3 greatest hits titles until September 19. The games, all priced under $30, are certainly some of the best of this console generation. Xbox 360 platinum list PS3 greatest hits list (left column, half-way down) See! There's some pretty good games in there. Remember, you can now trade in games for gift cards at the retailer, which can be spent on anything in the store.

  • Toys R Us videogame 'buy back' program underway nationwide

According to the gang at Joystiq, the Toys R Us videogame trade-in program launches in earnest today, meaning that any of you cats with old videogames laying around can trade 'em in for the retailer's gift cards, no questions asked. Just take your old games (even going as far back as the Atari 2600 or Intellivison) to the customer service desk of your local store and they'll make you an offer at which point, according to a store representative, the games are then "taken by a third party company that refurbishes them for resale." This year's been pretty tough, but between our old game cartridges, Cash for Clunkers, and Compton's "Cash for Firearms" program, it looks like things might finally be going our way after all! The worm has turned, our friends. Indeed, the worm has turned.

  • Toys R Us rolls out national game trade-in program, classic games accepted [update]

digg_url = 'http://www.joystiq.com/2009/09/10/toys-r-us-rolls-out-national-game-trade-in-program-classic-game/'; Toys R Us is rolling out its video game trade-in program nationwide today, allowing customers to sell games from as far back as the (OMG!) Intellivision. Those who use the program will receive gift cards for the value of their trade-in, which can be used for any product at Toys R Us, Babies R Us or online at Toysrus.com. Exchanging games works by going to the "guest services desk" with the merchandise, it'll be scanned and, if the value is acceptable, the customer will receive a gift card. We're honestly shocked at Toys R Us accepting trade-ins that go all the way back to systems like the Atari 2600. We're following up for some more details and will update as soon as we hear back. Update: Toys R Us is not getting into the used games resale business, it is merely accepting the used merchandise. A representative for the company tells us the games "are taken by a third party company that refurbishes them for resale." We're still following up to find out what company that would be. We'll update again when we find out.

If you missed out on GameStop's rooster hat offer, or you decided against filling your home with pre-order novelties, you should consider Toys R Us for all your Scribblenauts needs. This Tuesday (and only Tuesday), according to CAG's NeoStrider, in-store purchases of Scribblenauts will be rewarded instantly with $15 gift cards, effectively dropping the price of one of the most promising video games of 2009 to $14.99.There you go. If you live near a TRU and you've been on the fence (for some reason) about this game, consider your decision made.[Via GoNintendo]

  • TRU will give you $30 to buy Batman

    08.24.2009

We feel like we've already given you plenty of reasons to buy Batman: Arkham Asylum (chief among them: it's rad) but Toys 'R' Us is offering 30 more. Those who buy the game at the toy retailer between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. tomorrow will receive a gift card good for half of the game's purchase price (that's $30 for the mathematically deficient). One caveat: You have to be a member of the company's Rewards 'R' Us program to participate. If you're averse to friendly giraffes, you can also dip into your local Best Buy, where an Arkham Asylum purchase will net you Batman: The Animated Series films Mr. Freeze and Mask of the Phantasm, as well as a $10 gift card. Plus, unlike the TRU offer, this one's available online. Take that, Canada!

  • Analyst: Expect more to get into the used games business

    by
    Jason Dobson

    04.07.2009

With both Amazon and Toys R Us now dealing in pre-owned games, these days it seems like most everyone wants in on the used game racket. Now Lazard Capital Markets analyst Colin Sebastian has come forward, telling Gamasutra that he expects even more companies to soon dive in for their own slice of the lucrative secondhand pie. Without naming names, Sebastian says that a "large consumer electronics retail chain is rekindling efforts to sell used video games," while another "general merchandise 'big box' store" is already trying out a program to buy back games for store credit. We just hope folks are wiping their feet before stepping all over GameStop's coattails.

Click to kung fu-gripisize image If you're attending the San Diego Comic Con and are a fan of all things Halo 3, then you'll likely be excited to hear that Toys R Us and McFarlane Toys are teaming up to sell the exclusive figure you see above during the show. Only 6,000 of these Grifball bad boys (or girls, because you really don't know who's under that 200 billion-dollar suit of armor) are being sold at the show, and you can grab your own for $15. We suggest making this a priority stop, as the figure features a Bomb, Gravity Hammer, Recon armor, and Sword Hilt, with the latter two being pretty big deals in the world of spinning space rings, we hear. Also, 6,000 isn't a lot when you consider 126,000 people attended the show last year.San Diego Comic-Con goes down from July 23-26 at the San Diego Convention Center.%Gallery-49402%

Click to embiggen. Are you ready for something "ridiculously awesome"? Reader Brett P. was shopping at a local Toys R Us when he spotted Tech Deck Dude's Serpent of Doom Action Set. Over four feet long, this toy features a rather familiar character riding a skateboard. The dual blades, goatee and red tattoo are distinctly Kratos-like, don't you think? The toy launches pseudo-Kratos across a gap, featuring a large biting serpent. "Don't get caught!" We're not sure how well bootleg Kratos would fare in a fight against the serpent, but we know the PlayStation original would use a few QTEs and shred the beast in half.%Gallery-47883%
