Paramount and Dreamworks Pictures have launched the official web site for the Transformers movie, which is scheduled to open next year on July 4. Activision will be publishing the official game to coincide with the film's release, although they still haven't chosen a developer. While the game won't ship until 2007, Gamecube and Xbox owners determined to wait for next-gen console price drops won't have to miss the action with Optimus Prime, Omega Supreme, and Soundwave (Joystiq reader favs).

You've already got both a car and an SUV that can magically transform into watercraft at the touch of a button, but what to do about your spoiled kids who want to go from land to sea without changing vehicles? Luckily for you, Aquada and Humdinga (that name still kills us) manufacturer Gibbs Technologies has just revealed a prototype product that's sure to be hit with the younger crowd at your summer house: the Quadski dual-purpose ATV / jet ski. Equally at home in sand or surf, the Quadski can hit a claimed 50 miles-per-hour traveling on either surface, thanks to a 140-horsepower engine and a propulsion system protected by no less than 60 patents. The switch from ATV to jet ski supposedly takes a mere five seconds, and a full tank of gas will give you either a 372-mile range on land or two hours to tool around in the water -- but don't go getting the kids too hyped up, because there's no word on when/if the Quadski will see mass production.[Via Gizmag, thanks Madeleine]

  • Don't expect any Rare games on the Virtual Console...

...according to Matt over at IGN, who claims to have spoken with some key Rare folk about the possibility of some of Rare's past greats to be in Nintendo's Virtual Console's starting lineup during GDC. While it's pretty much a given that this would be the case, what with Rare being alligned under the cold, Borg-like, Microsoft Game Studios, no-shows will undoubtedly be Killer Instinct, Perfect Dark, Banjo & Kazooie, Goldeneye 007, and Blast Corps. That last one hits this Blogger especially hard. I know many people would say the N64's strongest game was Goldeneye 007 or Perfect Dark, some might claim its stellar first-party offerings in Ocarina of Time and Super Mario 64 were superior, but for this Blogger no other experience on the console could top the sheer ecstasy of uppercutting buildings as a giant mech and bulldozing gas stations in Blast Corps. It was like a digital incarnation of my childhood with Tonka trucks and Transformers.

  • Activision Hard At Work on a Revolution Title (Transformers Perhaps?)

Activision announced that it was working on a new Revolution title a while ago, but they gave no hint as to what the title would be. Now, this is pure speculation, but with Activision's recent acquisition of the Transformers franchise, a new Transformers game would seem to be a perfect fit for the Revolution. The Transformers franchise has a massive following, and it has been too long since a really fun Transformers game was made. This would also fit in with the Revolution's existing lineup (with what meager information is available right now), and would seem to be a perfect way for the Transformers franchise to launch into a new era of Autobot vs. Decepticon goodness. I'm not quite sure how the Japanese market would be handled, since the franchise is limited in Japan, but hopefully it wouldn't be limited at all. If you are reading this, Hasbro and Activision, make it happen! For the children, of course.
