  • Gotta catch em' all with two versions of Transformers DS

If robots from the planet Cybertron crash landed in your backyard and asked for your undying allegiance, which side would you choose? The hip-hopping lyrical masters, the Autobots? Or Team Starscream, otherwise known as the Decepticons? You had better decide before this Summer when the robots in disguise assault every gaming platform in existence. No, that doesn't mean your ZX Spectrum. Stop being difficult. The DS version, other than the usual array of touch screen controls, will be unique in that two versions will be available -- one for each side of the conflict. The two factions will then square off over Wi-Fi Connect in the "Allspark Wars" mode. Other differences include the typical array of minor, exclusive content as seen in titles of this kind. Michael Bay Presents: a Michael Bay Production: Transformers: The Movie hits theaters July 4th along with the game.

Two incredible forces. Two sides in the battle for Earth -- and appropriately, two completely different games for two completely different stories. How ... balanced. We love it. As licensed games go, these don't sound (or look) half bad. After the jump, we've got new screens from both Decepticons and Autobots. We won't even make you choose between 'em; you can ogle both if you're so inclined.

Thank goodness! The world is back in order once more... unless Unicron really does exist and will eventually try to consume our planet whole to power his system while he travels the cosmos in search for... planets to eat. 1986, anyone? Transformers: The Movie... seriously? Ultra Magnus said the D-word? Come on, it hailed in the second generation of Transformers since most of the original cast was killed in the first ten minutes of the movie (if you can name some of them, we'll give you a cookie... or I'll mail you one of my old Transformers toys... fat chance)! StarScream finally bit the dust! Really, nobody? Wow. That was my life.Anyway, for the latest game coming out featuring robots in disguise, who are consequently more than meets the eye, the original voices for Optimus Prime and Megatron, Peter Cullen and Frank Welker, are back and ready to go it again with their respective roles. Forever in the search for energon cubes and ultimate control over Cybertron (and Earth, apparently), you can play as the newly envisioned Transformers thanks to the latest revival of the franchise by Michael Bay. Good stuff. GameSpot has an audio clip of the gents and talks about what it took to get those voices just right. Pretty entertaining.[Via the sparkling, beautiful bowels of Joystiq]

  • Original Transformers actors to voice movie game

Hugo Weaving (Agent Smith) may be playing the voice of Megatron in Micheal Bay's upcoming Transformers film adaptation, but he won't voice him in the game. Normally a cast change for a movie-based game is a bad thing, but this change may actually please fans. Frank Welker, who voiced Megatron in the original animated series will reprise the role for the game. This means that the game will have the original voices for both Optimus Prime and Megatron. Activision has said that the reason for the voice change was to please Transformers fans. While I don't doubt that motive, I'm sure they saved a few pennies by using Welker instead of Weaving. While you were busy eating your Captain Crunch and sitting around watching Transformers in your Underoos in the 80s, Peter Cullen and Frank Welker were busting their humps to make sure that you had the finest in children's programming as the voices of Optimus Prime and Megatron, respectively.Gamespot has reported they'll be back at the grindstone for the upcoming Transformers: The Game, due this summer for pretty much every system on the market. The site also features in-depth interviews with Cullen and Welker to mark the occasion, where we get some insight into how the two voices were created. Needless to say, it's more involved than you probably imagined. Before you click, be aware, the voice of Optimus gushes quite a bit about how talented the guy voicing Megatron is so, if that's going to ruin the series for you (or make it harder to enjoy the latest Transformers fan fiction), you may want to pass.

Yesterday, Activision gave us a sneak peek into their upcoming game Transformers: The Game by releasing a screenshot. Yes, they only released a single screenshot, but it is an exciting screenshot none the less. We don't get too much more information from this single screen, but it looks like the art style is more on the "dirty" side of things, and is it us or did they just release a somewhat blurry screenshot? No matter, we'll be seeing plenty of Transformers goodness this year ... like it or not.[Thanks, DjDATZ]

You know, a Transformers movie was really its own reward, but all these transforming gadgets -- movie related and no -- are really making it all the more exciting, especially when we're talking completely superfluous fluff. Take these new Frenzy & Rumble Earphones, for example. There's no reason you'd want 'em on your head, and there's no way they push out an adequate volume for desktop use when in that transformed state. A perfect blend of uselessness and inconvenience. You can get yours in July for about $37.[Thanks, Aaron D]

Considering it has a transforming 360, it's no surprise that Transformers the movie will serve as inspiration for Transformers The Game. Activision has made a new fact sheet available for the game, revealing its features and platforms. The game is set to hit every console known to man, including our beloved 360. The game is being developed by Traveller's Tales, who recently made a splash with the LEGO Star Wars games. Transformers The Game will feature both Autobot and Decepticon campaigns, allowing players to choose good or evil, respectively. Player characters will be able to transform on the fly, offering various combat options. The environments are destructible and can also be used as weapons during combat. The fact sheet also mentions "head-to-head" battles though it is unclear if this refers to multiplayer or not. The game promises a huge lineup of playable characters including Optimus Prime, Megatron, Ironhide, Bumblebee, Barricade, and our personal favorite, Starscream.Transformers The Game is currently scheduled for a summer 2007 release.[Via 360 Arcadians]

Like Howie Mandel, the Transformers have been given yet another shot at a career -- but unlike Howie, we are like, totally love the Transformers. We'll do our best not to wax on with all the Transformers lore and all, but we'll just say the death of Optimus Prime made some pre-pubescent Engadget editors reevaluate their young lives. So it's with no small amount of nostalgia that prior to the release of the Michael Bay Transformers live action movie later this year, Hasbro's launched a new line of change-'em-up-robots. The new Prime, which keeps kind of in line with his original old school truck body (we have mixed feelings about the painted flames) will drop for $40 on June 2nd; a cost-crazy 14-inch tall 1/14 scale $80 Ultimate Bumblebee comes out this fall; also look forward to the $30 Optimus Prime Battle Rig Blaster (hey, wasn't that Megatron's gimmick?), and the $30 Prime Voice Changer Helmet, which makes your tykes sound a little more like Peter Cullen than you might like. Oh, how joyful this resurrected 80s mania for robots makes us.[Via Autoblog]%Gallery-1627%

  • Transformers PSP in disguise

Savage Entertainment is working on a PSP Transformers game based on the movie. Savage has previously made Star Wars Battlefront 2 and Scooby Doo for the PSP, so they have experience with Sony's portable. Based on Micheal Bay's upcoming Transformers movie, Transformers: The Game the title will feature Optimus Prime, Megatron, Starscream among other well known robots and give players the choice to play Autobot and save the world or Decepticon and try to take it over. Each Transformer has their own set of skills and abilities and players can choose at any moment to move from robot to vehicle form. Over the course of the game, players will travel through fully destructible environments and each character's scale and weight will affect how they fight. You'll use range and melee combat to fight your way to your ultimate goal. The console versions are being created by Traveler's Tales of Lego Star Wars fame and all versions are said to have similar content, which is very good considering how well Lego Star Wars worked on the PSP. Of course the PSP edition has exclusive content. This time it comes in the form of an expanded storyline and multiplayer. The last Transformers game (for PS2) was quite enjoyable and I have high hopes for this rendition. Anyone else looking forward to this game? [Via IGN]

  • Transformers bust out of Nike Free shoes

Just a few days ago, Transformers aficionados were likely elated to see the Optimus Prime iPod speaker dock, and now we've got one more option for you to add to your collection. Not too long after learning a few secretive details about the Nike Speed+ watch, now it seems that Convoy and Megatron are busting out of a pair of Nike Free 7.0 kicks, ready to rock and lace up their enemie. As the first two members of the Transformers Sports Label series, these items are actually half scale renditions of life-sized footwear, measuring around 6-inches in length but reportedly featuring all the same qualities of an actual Nike shoe. Interestingly, the two bots even rock a diminutive pair of Nike Free shoes themselves, but there's no word on if wearing these things actually gives you similar powers. Nevertheless, the inseparable set should start shipping by May, and while the standard edition will set you back $58.99, you might as well spring for the "Collector's Grade" for an extra four bucks.[Thanks, Yu-Ming]

  • Takara kicks out Transformers Optimus Prime iPod speaker dock

While Takara's no stranger to offering up unusual (albeit very tempting) goods, the firm is now pumping out one of the most unique (and trust us, that's saying something) iPod docks to ever hit shelves. Not too long after seeing a life-sized Gundam construction, our cartoonish fantasies are becoming ever more realized, as now we have the ability to pre-order the Optimus Prime Convoy iPod docking bay. As expected, the machine is coated in white, touts a (presumably weak) stereo speaker system, and even rocks a questionable "licensed by Apple" claim, but we'd be surprised if these guys have paid their 10-percent yet. Regardless, this guy transforms from big rig (pictured after the jump) to terrorizer in seconds flat, and can wheel your iPod around while blasting tunes from the trailer when not conquering villages and eliciting smiles. So if you need no more introduction, you can reserve one of these for yourself for $144, but we'd highly recommend the $2 upgrade for "collector's grade," whatever that means.[Via Plastic Bamboo]

var digg_url = 'http://digg.com/movies/Transformers_viral_website_hidden_inside_the_new_trailer'; In the Transformers movie trailer between :37 and :39 the frame shows "Sector Seven Org" at the top and "Takara 83" at the bottom. If you go to SectorSeven.org and type in takara83 as your password you are treated to a screen full of mess. It looks like a person's desktop and clicking on the exclamation mark on the dock brings up a video sequence where a Lt. Col. Powers talks about discovering a "blip." Beyond that we have no idea what's going on. Go forth puzzle-loving ARG folks and figure it out.See also: Hi-Def version of the trailer[Thanks Animus]

This diagram illustrates what could be one of the ugliest peripherals I have ever seen for the console. It's like a Transformer gone wrong. With this attachment, you can stick not one but two Memory Sticks into your system. Personally, I'd much rather buy a newer, larger Memory Stick, especially considering how they're not too expensive these days. On the plus side, you can have that obnoxious cord stick out of your PSP and pretend you're Inspector Gadget.[Via DCemu]

(That, loyal readers, is the BEST headline EVAR created for PSP Fanboy. You can applaud my creative genius in the comments section below.)Anyways, it appears that Sony's branching out the Ape Escape series into the competitive mascot racing genre. While details are scarce, it appears that what separates this game from other mascot racers is that the monkeys don't drive go-karts... they ARE the go-karts. Maybe the development team was inspired by the upcoming Transformers movie, but this diagram should explain it all:Check out the official Japanese website to get more details and screenshots.[Via QJ]

Okay, so, we've seen some Crackdown videos before. We've seen thugs get shot. We've seen them juggled maliciously with a rocket launcher. What we haven't seen is the video above. It seems that all cars of the future are capable of pimping themselves, much to the chagrin of the jobless, future Xzibit. Also, for a supercop, this guy sure runs down a lot of civilians.

"It was the only warning we would ever get..." And without any warning, the Transformers movie teaser has arrived four days early. Paramount and Dreamworks have given us a pleasant surprise for the holiday weekend, but I wouldn't count on the multi-platform game launching ahead of schedule next Spring. It has been six months since Activision acquired publishing rights, and they still haven't announced a developer.

Before we get to this, let's agree to hold off on all Xbox 360 power supply Energon cube jokes, just for a little while, kay? Alright, here goes. Gamespot points us to entertainment website The Movie Reporter, who claim to have gotten their popcorn-greased mitts on the script for Michael Bay's upcoming, slow-mo explosion fest remake of Transformers. So we know it's got explosions, we know it's got slow-mo, what else does it have? The Movie Reporter's Robert Sanchez writes, "I almost forgot to mention one of the most stupid scenes in the script ... For reasons that I won't get into, we see an iPod, Xbox 360, and plasma screens sprout legs and transform just a bit."Hmmm, well, yeah. Just a bit? Like the 360 transforms into a 360-with-legs? If there's a PS3 in this movie, we can expect a whole new metric for measuring the console wars, and just going on the two console's colors, we're guessing the 360 is an Autobot. Just sayin'! Commence Energon cube jokes ... now!See also:Transformers web site launchedActivision grabs Transformers movie license[Via Engadget]
