Another week is over -- leaving us with another winner and another loser in our weekly series of fantasy deathmatches. Last week we tossed the Firelord Ragnaros into our theoretical arena along with Ossirian the Unscarred. Despite quite a few comments suggesting Ossirian's Supreme Mode would make him completely unkillable, the final results turned out in Ragnaros' favor: Thanks to the commenters who are enjoying our game in the spirit it was intended, especially mortalbound, whose recreation of the fight is too lengthy to reprint here, and Vaylix, who accurately noted, "This isn't about your data, or in game logic. This is about who is more awesome." Check back later for our next match, complete with more awesome, just for you.

Two bosses may enter... but only one will get to leave in WoW Insider's fantasy deathmatch series. Every week we pit two of Azeroth's raid bosses against one another in a battle that your votes get to decide. This week we present Ragnaros the Firelord, coming all the way from the heart of Molten Core in Blackrock Mountain, and Ossirian the Unscarred, who's traveled from Ahn'Qiraj in the Silithus desert to participate in this match. Who wins and who loses? Ultimately, that's for you to decide -- so read on!

  • One Boss Leaves: Moam vs. Hakkar wrap-up

For the second time in our Two Bosses Enter competition, Zul'Gurub's Hakkar emerges victorious over a lesser World of Warcraft raid boss. Leaving our competiton is Moam, whom our readers determined would simply be overwhelmed by Hakkar's Blood Siphon ability. (Though, seriously people, how do you siphon blood from construct made out of stone?) But skipping past the blood/no blood argument: Hakkar is a God, and Moam a mere construct. In terms of raw power, it's clear Hakkar should have the upper hand in this fight, as our readers determined: Though last week's match is over, this week's match has yet to begin! Look for the next edition of Two Bosses Enter later tonight!

  • One Boss Leaves: Sapphiron vs. Mandokir wrap-up

It's going to come as a surprise to very few of you (about 11% of you) that Sapphiron came out ahead of Bloodlord Mandokir in our most recent match of Two Bosses Enter. I suppose it's not unexpected, as Mandokir's greatest strength (his ability to grow in power as he kills people) would do him little good in a one-on-one match with Sapphiron. In this fight, Mandokir was little more than a powerful meleer, and eaten alive by Sapphiron's death-from-above approach. The exact results of the fight are as follows: All I can say is ouch. It looks like the Bloodlord is heading back home to Zul'Gurub with a badly bruised ego -- though after eating a few raid groups (who no doubt don't take him seriously, because he's old-world content) I'm sure he'll be right back in the game. Our next match, between Ahn'Qiraj's Moam and Zul'Gurub's Hakkar (yes, after this one-sided fight, our brackets have been rearranged to, hopefully, make for more interesting battles in the future).

  • One Boss Leaves: C'Thun vs. Mother Shahraz wrap-up

    12.01.2007

Our last Two Bosses Enter deathmatch was simply a no-contest: C'Thun defeated Mother Shahraz with little difficulty, coming away the winner with a healthy 86% of the vote. This should come as no surprise to anyone who's had a chance to try the encounter for themselves, as C'Thun is a tricky customer and a standard boss would have little clue as to how to handle him. With this competition complete and Mother Shahraz leaving our arena in disgrace, I'm happy to inform you that we've finished our first round of fights! From here on we'll be pitting contenders we've seen before against one another and getting ever closer to learning who the ultimate World of Warcraft boss may be. Check out our current brackets (though note that they may get shifted around) and come back later today to catch the next round of Two Bosses Enter!

It's that time of the week again! Time to see who won and who lost in the last round of our weekly fantasy deathmatch, Two Bosses Enter. Last week we put Teron Gorefiend up against Gruul the Dragonkiller -- and if the above image is any indication, I think Gruul came out ahead. In fact, 57% of our respondents thought Gruul would win this round, with 41% rooting for Gorefiend. (For the full chart, check after the jump.) And before you fault my math, 1% thought the fight would result in a draw and the other 1% was eaten up by rounding. As some commenters have noted, the "draw" option is kind of silly, and will be removed for the next fight -- coming up late this evening!

Two bosses will enter... but only one will get to leave! Every week at WoW Insider, we pit two of the most interesting bosses in the World of Warcraft against one another in a fantasy deathmatch -- in the end to emerge with a single boss of bosses, victorious above all others. And the best part? You get to tell us who walks away the winner and who doesn't get to leave our arena at all. Today we're considering a fight between the Black Temple's Teron Gorefiend and Gruul the Dragonkiller. Curious as to what might happen if these two met up? Keep reading and we'll discuss what each of these bosses can do and what might happen if they met up.

This round of Two Bosses Enter may be over -- but another is starting soon. As you may have guessed from the graphic above, Princess Huhuran wiped the floor with Magtheridon. Commenters cited Huhuran's poison and 30% Berserk abilities as the tipping factor in this fight. (For those of you who've never participated in the Huhuran fight, a Berserk at 30% might not sound like a big deal -- but trust me, Huhuran's Berserk trumps all similar abilities you may be familiar with.) For current standings in our ultimate turnement of bosses, check the brackets on WoWWiki. Otherwise, check back with us later tonight for the next round of Two Bosses Enter!

For the past week's Two Bosses Enter matchup, Vashj has come out on top -- but by the extremely narrow margin of one vote. You read that correctly, because the opinion of a single reader means that Vashj will continue to our next round. For those of you who need to know all the details, here's the final results: Be sure to check back tonight for another matchup -- though we're getting closer to determining the boss of all bosses, we still have quite a way to go! Welcome to another edition of Two Bosses Enter, WoW Insider's series of fantasy boss deathmatches. Every week we pair up two new bosses from the World of Warcraft and pit them against one another in a fight to the death -- and eventually, one will walk away the ultimate winner. This week we're considering a fight between one of Ragnaros' many minions in the Molten Core -- Baron Geddon -- and Serpentshrine Cavern's own Lady Vashj. Though these bosses come from vastly different level instances, don't let that fool you -- we're here to talk theorycraft, and that means considering how these two bosses would realistically fare against one another and not just making a list of everyone's hit points and damage ranges. So are you curious about these two bosses -- or already have an opinion? Keep reading for more info and your chance to vote.

It will surprise few that Blackwing Lair's Chromaggus will be walking away from our weekly Two Bosses Enter competition as the victor. While Karazhan's Shade of Aran is a powerful caster with access to three schools of magic to best make use of Chromaggus' magical weaknesses, he would still be out of luck whenever Chromaggus wasn't vulnerable to fire, frost, or arcane damage. Combined that with Chromaggus' ability to frenzy and Aran's low damage, and we have our winner. For the next in our round of boss deathmatches, check back later today for a discussion of Baron Geddon vs. Lady Vashj.

Welcome to another day, everyone! This week, WoW Insider celebrates the middle of the week a little differently than the rest of you -- by locking two World of Warcraft raid bosses into an arena and only letting one walk away. In our round of fantasy deathmatches, two bosses will enter, but only one will get to leave. And the best part of the entire affair? You get to watch from the sidelines and tell us who won! This week we'll be considering a fight against Blackwing Lair's Chromaggus and Karazhan's Shade of Aran. It should come as no surprise to most of you that Illidan dominated our last round of Two Bosses Enter, winning with an impressive 85% of the total vote. Of course, Illidan is the big end boss of The Burning Crusade, and you'd expect him to be a tough fight. But it's time to say goodbye to Kael'thas, who's leaving our match with a disheartening 13% of the vote: Illidan has certainly won this round, but he's not our champion yet! Check back later for another round of Two Bosses Enter!

A new week means it's time for a new edition of Two Bosses Enter, WoW Insider's series of fantasy deathmatches where we pit two raid bosses against each other – and you get to tell us who emerges victorious. Two bosses will enter our arena, but only one will get to leave! We're going to keep pitting boss against boss until we finally emerge with a single victor. This week we'll be judging a fight between two powerful Outland bosses: Illidan Stormrage, the final boss in the Black Temple, and Kael'thas Sunstrider, the final boss in the Eye of Tempest Keep. • One Boss Leaves: Malchezaar vs. Hakkar

    09.03.2007

Two bosses entered, but now one will leave. In last week's edition of our fantasy deathmatch series, we considered a fight between Karazahn's Prince Malchezaar vs. Hakkar the Soulflayer. Though the fight was relatively close, with fairly even argument for either side in both our comments and our poll, Hakkar has emerged victorious in the end. Why? Hakkar's supporters cite his Blood Siphon ability as a killer -- he could simply keep himself healed up while Malchezaar pummeled away at him (since without adds, there would be no way for Malchezaar to poison himself). However, a number of readers point out that Malchezaar's infernal adds aren't targetable by abilities, and that Hakkar could only siphon from Malchezzar, something they believe could be DPS'd through. But at the end of the day -- Hakkar had the votes and moves on to our next round. Be sure to check back later today for another episode of Two Bosses Enter!

Two bosses enter... but only one will get to leave in our series of fantasy deathmatches. Over at WoW Insider HQ, we've selected some of the most dangerous bosses to be found in the World of Warcraft today, and now we're pitting them against one another in a fight to the death where only one can be champion. And the best part of all this fun? You get to pick our winner! That's right -- after reading up on each boss, your votes and comments will determine who goes on to the next round and whose lifeless body gets a victory screenshot. This week we're looking at Prince Malchezaar from Karazhan and Hakkar the Soulflayer from Zul'Gurub -- and before you balk that Karazhan and its inhabitants are much more difficult than those in the lower-level Zul'Gurub, I must remind you that the rules of our little game mean we attempt to consider these bosses on equal footing. That means they're both going into this fight with approximately the same level, health, and damage ability -- what we're debating here is how they fight, not which one has the most hit points. If we've piqued your interest, keep reading for a rundown of each bosses' mad fighting skillz!

  • One Boss Leaves: Kazzak vs. Vaelastrasz wrap-up

    08.25.2007

Vaelastrasz the Corrupt has emerged victorious from last week's encounter between himself and Doom Lord Kazzak. There's a lot of disagreement in the comments as to why, including lengthy discussion of whether Vael's Burning Adrenaline ability should be considered in the fight and whether Kazzak's Twisted Reflection ability could just heal through whatever damage Vael might do. But disagreement aside, Vael won by a landslide: The comment winner of the week, however, has to be Jess, who stays out of any detailed discussion of numbers or abilities and gives us the following:Vael because after a few minutes with him Kazzak would want to /wrist rather than keep fighting that whiny emo boss. For anyone who's fought Vael, you know exactly what Jess is referring to. Will his attitude win Vael the overall top spot in our competition? We're nowhere near the end yet, but you can check back later today for another matchup!

Another weekend, and you know what that means -- it's time for another episode of Two Bosses Enter, WoW Insider's series of fantasy deathmatches between some of the toughest bosses in the World of Warcraft. Each week, two bosses walk into our arena, but only one of them gets to walk out again -- and at the very end, we'll wind up with one boss who wins out over all. The best part of all this is that you get to tell us who winds up the winner every week. Some internet connectivity issues caused us to skip last week, but this week we're back with a vengeance, talking about one of my favorite boss fights in the game -- Vaelastrasz the Corrupt, who we're pitting against Doom Lord Kazzak. So what are you still reading this for? Read on to find out a bit about each of these bosses and tell us who would win if they met up!

It should come as no surprise that Archimonde came out the winner of our episode of Two Bosses Enter. He's got a much wider array of powerful abilities than does The Curator, whom we pitted him against, and Archimonde won out by a huge margin. Be sure to take a look at our brackets to see how things are shaping up for our continued series of fantasy deathmatches, and be sure to leave us comments letting us know if you think we've overlooked something.
