  • Warhammer videos collected, looking great

Brothers and bloggers Keen and Graev have put together a nice collection of Warhammer Online videos over on their YouTube account, and this seems like the best we've seen of the game so far (I saw it at PAX a few years ago, and then we saw quite a bit of it at E 4 All, as well as the various videos released since then). The video above was taken at a German show, so it's in Deutsch, obviously, but the graphics are clean and clear, and the gameplay looks pretty manic -- just the kind of thing to get us all excited for this baby. They've also got a character selection video, some Bright Wizard gameplay, Zealot footage, some Hammerer and Choppa RvR combat, and a little world exploration. This game is definitely looking better every day -- it's still on track for a release sometime in the middle of this year.

  • Save your Stage6 raid videos

Many raiders and machinima fans will be disappointed to learn that Stage6, one of the best purveyors of high quality DivX videos, will be shutting down. Moo announced yesterday in her his WoW Moviewatch the shut down will take place this Thursday. This is a big blow to not only the WoW community due to all the superb WoW videos hosted there, but also to the larger DivX community. If you're like me, you probably have half a dozen boss videos that you either need to watch, or do watch after wipes to learn from them. Stage6 has an option to save these videos to your hard disk, and it looks like after this Thursday, that will be the only way to enjoy them.In light of the closure of Stage6, what video sites will you use to get high quality boss and strategy videos from?Edit: A sincere apology to Moo for my gender mistake. Having not met any of my fellow bloggers in real life yet, I mistakenly assumed Moo was a masculine identity. /red-in-the-face. /apologize.

  • GDC08: Lots of new Secret Agent Clank footage

If grainy low-res gameplay videos get you all hot and bothered under the collar, then you're in for quite a treat. IGN has posted four Secret Agent Clank videos that aren't exactly the prettiest we've ever seen, but they do show some more of what we can expect from the Clank's adventure, and it's pretty funny to see Ratchet get thrown into the "big house." Check the jump for more videos.

  • Warhammer video shows real PvP

Remember the WAR 'this is glory' video from a few weeks back? It was a scripted pile of crap, but anyone with some common sense knew it didn't actually portray WAR's RvR realistically. What is realistic? Chaotic bedlam! This new video ganked from Gamespot showcases how PvP plays out on a smaller and more nubish scale. Classes in on the action: Witch Hunter, Chaos Chosen, and the Witch Elf. Paul Barnett appears, surprise, and dials down the hyperbole explaining in calmer terms the hobby experience that will make WAR a free-time friendly fun MMO to play. That way WAR players can still go to the bar wearing Warhammer shirts, and bring along some Warhammer figurines to impress the svelte ladies or the burly gents. While I really enjoy the hobby versus immersion outlook, there will always be hardcores that take it to the immersive extreme and play until someone in a bio-hazard suit shows up with the eviction notice. It's nice that there are some MMO developers that want to make sure their players stay safe and function as normal law-abiding citizens that can afford their subscriptions and buy all sorts of WAR loots. I still have a bad feeling WAR will be an immersive soul-sucking experience. I better get to work on fire-proofing whatever I can. If you still hunger for more footage, and like me you're stuck back in the line for a beta invite, there are more gameplay videos to watch. If you want to join the line, be sure to register for the Warhammer Online beta. [via Keen and Graev] [Video Source]

There's not much to say about this newly released developer walkthrough for Condemned 2: Bloodshot that the video doesn't tell you, with the exception that this game is going to kick much more ass than the previous game. Condemned 2's lead game designer, Frank Rook explains how the game's chain attacks work and shows the more in-depth forensic system. Despite the fact that all the video is in the pre-beta stage, the game is already looking great, and we can't wait to see more.

  • Tabulator: Xbox Live Video Marketplace vs. Apple TV

var digg_url = 'http://digg.com/tech_news/Xbox_Live_Marketplace_vs_Apple_TV_The_breakdown/who'; Up until yesterday, the living room set-top box was simply a "hobby" for Apple; its fumbled Apple TV product did little to unseat the HD video rental download champ, the largely uncontested Xbox Live Video Marketplace. With a fresh splash of software for new boxes and a free upgrade for current users, Apple TV Take 2 is giving it another shot.Of course, for an audience of gamers (that's us!), Apple's product has a particularly severe handicap but, on a strictly video entertainment scale, it manages to best the Xbox Live Video Marketplace in just about every category. Now we realize this is, in many ways, an apples to oranges comparison (sorry), but Microsoft isn't just competing for gamer dollars anymore and competition is growing (in fact, the at-home-rental set-top box industry will see another entrant later this year with Netflix). To get to the bottom of which service provides the most bang for your e-buck, we ran some data through our handy-dandy (and patent pending!) Tabulator and it spit out the table found after the break. Be sure to let us know in the comments if there's anything we're it's missing.

Believe it or not, Capcom's Harvey Birdman: Attorney at Law is actually going to be the first PSP game released in 2008, and judging by everything we've seen up to this point, it could be everything Phoenix Wright fans and PSP owners have been waiting for. However, some critics might argue it's more of an interactive cartoon than a full-on mystery/courtroom sim, but we won't know for sure until we get our hands on it when it releases Jan. 8. Either way, we're sure fans of the series will be in for a treat.

  • People in NA/UK actually play Lineage II?

    by
    Matt Warner

    12.17.2007

A good friend asked me that question earlier today. I don't play Lineage II, and from the looks of our coverage it's one of those overlooked and neglected MMOs. Our staff can't indulge in every MMO hardcore, (there's a lot of MMOGs out there and as the market explodes it's only going to get more crowded) but I can account for a near estimate on L2's subscription count. NCsoft reports their subscription numbers every financial quarter, and in the last round Lineage II had a grand total of 80k subs in the NA/UK regions. That's not terrible as the game never really took off in our neck of the woods, but it is a stark contrast to Lineage's immense popularity in Asia. Not all hope is lost for those interested in trying L2 or actually playing the game. Closing in on its fourth year in release Lineage II continues to expand with the recently launched expansion, The Kamael. This expansion introduces a new winged race; (I dig the hot wings – not the bot kind though) New lands: Hellbound Isle of Souls; and Isle of Prayer; New dungeons and Items; A new player experience; And more. More deets on our original Kamael launch post with screenshots and check out TenTonHammer's first impressions feature for a closer look at the new Kamael starting area. You can pick up the Epic Collection which includes the whole series of expansions for $40 bones (USD) over at the PlayNC store.

  • Huxley: In-game hyper-active footage from the Korean beta

Huxley is shaping up to be a true to its roots MMOFPS. The second phase of the Korean beta test wrapped up testing focused on the dynamic hyper FPS style gameplay as seen in the footage above provided by Game Videos. During the open beta the testing will focus more on the MMO elements, which are the aspects I'm more interested in because underneath the fancy graphics and hyped up blurbs Huxley is well... Another FPS, but with a tasty grind! Huxley is being developed for the both the PC and Xbox 360 by H-studio under the Webzen flagship. There is still no word on when the non-Korean beta test is planned.

  • Aion: The Tower of Eternity - Details emerge on the Spiritmaster class

    12.02.2007

I have some good news for the non-Korean speaking foozles interested in NCsoft's upcoming Aion: The Tower of Eternity, due out late next year in NA/UK. Over the weekend new details emerged on the elusive Spiritmaster, one of the eight classes planned at release. The Spiritmaster will indeed be a summoning based magic class, but what makes it stand-out is it will derive its prowess from the elements of nature by summoning and controlling fierce creatures based on the elements of Earth, Fire, Wind, and Water. (A little cliché if you ask me, but isn't most Fantasy? What really matters is that the class is fun to play...) As for what roles are best suited for each elemental: Fire spirits specialize in ranged attacks; Earth spirits will master various defensive measures; Water spirits focus on healing and limiting damage; Wind spirits will focus on melee and slaying their opponents quick. For balance purposes, only one elemental may be actively summoned. It is said that certain encounters will call for a specific elemental to be used as to provide more reactionary and visceral gameplay. Aion: The Tower of Eternity is set to begin closed NA/UK beta-testing in early 2008. I embedded three Aion videos after the break that show the Spiritmaster's summoned Fire, Earth, and Water elementals. (In that order). %Gallery-11511%

CCP launched the website for EVE Online's Trinity expansion today. It's a sleekly designed website with a well produced promo-video (including clips of the shiny new graphics), video interviews with a few dev team members, a feature list, and screenshots and wallpapers. And of course it has EVE's usual dark, intelligentsia-aimed Sci-Fi motif going on.None of the information is new if you've been following the news super closely, but hardcore EVE fans will undoubtedly want to check it out anyway, and if you haven't been keeping up with Trinity news, it's a good place to get the low down on what CCP will be doing in the expansion.

  • How not to advertise the PS3

Fresh off the release of a couple extremely awesome commercials featuring the 40GB PS3 and a slew of other great features that make us love our PlayStation 3, we were starting to regain some of our lost confidence in the Sony hype machine. However, all that may have grinded to a halt with this bizarre commercial recently released in Europe.Although we've always thought the European's taste in just about everything is rather odd, this commercial raises that bar to an entirely new and utterly disturbing level. However, while most Sony commercials have always retained their oddity, they haven't always been bad. Anyone remember I am the Wolfman?[Thanks for the tip, Tom!]
