After watching the first level of Uncharted: Drake's Fortune, it's hard not to be blown away by the sheer graphical beauty Naughty Dog has been able to capture. At times, it really feels like you're watching a movie as Nathan shoots, punches, climbs and jumps his way throughout the level.Andrew noted the game has come a long way since its E3 showing, and we can certainly tell. The most exciting part is Naughty Dog still has nearly two months for some fine tuning before it's set to ship.

It's been awhile since we last heard anything about Sony's spelling-challenged safari romp, Afrika. When it was first unveiled, the consensus was, graphically, the title looked great, but no one really knew what the point of the game was. This video will do nothing to better explain the game's gameplay, unless it involves taking voyeuristic photos of meercats and giraffes mating in their natural habitat or trying to run over endangered animals.Who knows, though, we're sure there's a huge market for that kinda thing somewhere.

So far in Valkyrie of the Battlefield's short life, we've only seen the occasional screen or magazine scan, but now Sega has finally taken the wraps of its newest PS3-exclusive RPG.Sega kicked off the cel-shading revolution with Jet Set Radio, but now the company is pushing the technology even further by using it to create gorgeous watercolor-theme graphics, which its calling Canvas. It really does look like a painting has come to life. While we would have loved to see some actual gameplay, there's no denying the game looks great. Let's just cross our fingers that Sega decides to ship this baby worldwide.

One might have thought that BlizzCon was long over, but there's an excellent cache of videos available on YouTube which brings the experience to life again for me. A number of our WoW Insider bloggers were there at BlizzCon, of course, and they did an excellent job covering it -- I felt as though I got everything I needed by reading them. But now looking at the videos, I see how neat it must have been to be sitting there watching it for real. You can definitely get a feeling of how the developers think when it comes to designing our favorite game. The links to the youtube videos are just beyond the jump, copied directly from the compilation forum post by Monsoon (who deserves a lot of thanks for sharing them with us!). Take a peek for an even deeper appreciation for the game and for what went on at BlizzCon.

We're all about this Metroid month thing -- but are you? Do you hope to see similar marketing schemes for other big titles for the Wii? Certainly, we hope the video trend continues. Would you like to see this done for third party titles as well? Can you think of anything else you'd like to see them add, content-wise?

Fresh from Blizzard today, here's the trailer for Wrath of the Lich King. My first impressions? It looks surprisingly similar to old-world Azeroth -- which shouldn't be surprising, I guess, because it is in the same world, after all. "So come then, you heroes" is the new "You are not prepared." I can't wait to make a Death Knight.

  • Project Offset trailer doles out goosebumps

Ah, sweet Project Offset. There are few games that have us as intrigued as Project Offset. Initially touted as something of a squad-based, fantasy first person shooter, it had us hooked from the word go. And then almost all traces of the game vanished. Sure, we had snippets of info here and there: a teaser or two, a viral campaign of sorts (that has since disappeared). But then, nothing. Until now, it seems, as a trailer of the game has been leaked onto the internet. On the official website, the Project Offset team pleads that news sites not show the video. Considering said plea is actually the first time the Project Offset site's news section has been updated since October of 2006, we can hardly deny our news hungry readers such a tender morsel. Watch the video above -- which sports first and third person viewpoints and touts 5 distinct classes -- and dream.[Via Joystiq]

  • Gamecock's E3 video roundup

    by

Most people who spent time at the Hotel California with independent publisher Gamecock walked away with two major realizations. Gamecock actually figured out how to do this newly formatted E3 absolutely right, even though they technically weren't part of it. The Hotel California was an open door oasis with developers showing their games in casual living rooms as a breeze from the Pacific kept things cool -- the smell of BBQ also helped (which we didn't actually get to eat in all the running around). The other realization, the more important one, is that the games didn't look half bad -- actually, in many cases, they impressed us more than non-indie games we saw. Yes, the Gamecock name still confuses people and the two pseudo-NSFW videos we have after the break add to the things that turn some people off to the company's marketing -- but once those people understand Gamecock doesn't care, it'll start to roll off their backs and make more sense. As long as their games featured in the video above are fun and sell well, that's probably the only thing Gamecock really does care about. We're definitely curious to see how their first published titles like Dementium: The Ward and Fury, which goes into beta very soon, do at retail. And we really want more info on Pandora Legendary: The Box as soon as possible.

This latest Super Mario Galaxy video doesn't introduce any new outfits like the last developer walkthrough, but it does demonstrate star-hopping, gravity tricks, and other essential skills for traveling in this 3D platformer. The latter half of this two-minute movie even features that curious portion of the E3 trailer in which the level builds itself as Mario moves around. How will we make it to November 12th without our heads exploding from all this exciting media? Of all the scenes we spotted in yesterday's Super Mario Galaxy trailer, the ones that excited us most were the moments we saw our mustachioed protagonist bedecked in his bee and Boo outfits. Tears of joy came to our eyes, salty with the nostalgia of Super Mario Bros. 3's frog suit, raccoon leaf, and other fondly-remembered power-ups.GameTrailers has a six-minute developer walkthrough of Honey Bee Galaxy, explaining the game's two-player mechanics and Mario's bee apparel along the way. Buzz past the post break for the video honeypot and an awkward clip in which Mario gropes a distressed queen bee.See also: Hands-on with Super Mario Galaxy

  • Insect Wars is the bee's knees

We shooed Insect Wars (Konchuu Wars) away when the game's beetle-filled screenshots first flew into our periphery, believing the bug to be an uninspired pest. "Go away," we said, "and bother us no more." In our defense, language barriers kept us from understanding what the Success Corp. title was trying to communicate with its antennae and movement patterns. Having studied its habits, we found that the game isn't a Mushiking clone as we'd originally assumed, but a tactical RPG where you command an army of customizable, mechanized insects. Our mouths were agape, monocles falling from our faces when the truth was revealed. Below is a sampling of Insect Wars' creepy crawlers: a rifle-mounted praying mantis with buzzsaws -- my god, buzzsaws! -- for arms a lightning bug that terrorizes foes with its beam cannon tail a heavily-armored, treaded snail (pictured above) which acts as a transport for other units while healing them Not since Puzzle Quest have our loins ached for such a game. Insect Wars swarms into Japanese stores this August 2nd. Head past the post break for a minute-long trailer.

  • Helio adds two-click YouTube, Flickr sharing

We imagine that one of the luxuries of being a small, scrappy carrier like Helio is that it's way easier to listen to PO'd customers and change corporate strategy on a dime than it is for any of the Big Four to do so. Besides changing its mind and opening up free, unrestricted access to YouTube -- a wise move, we must confess -- Helio has now officially announced that its recently-upgraded "Helio UP" media upload app can be used to post directly to YouTube and Flickr accounts. Oh yeah, and it's all free and it happens in two clicks -- so if you see a flood of phone cam-quality videos on your iPhone in the near future, they're probably coming from Oceans (either that, or you're making the fatal error of trying to use YouTube over EDGE).

Square Enix is keeping up its media push for Final Fantasy: Crystal Chronicles: Ring of Fates with yet another video, adding onto its bombardment of scans and screenshots to draw in anyone who hasn't already decided to pick up the game's special-edition DS Lite bundle. This week's clip features Alhanarlem, one of the main characters from the ARPG's spellcasting tribe of Yukes, leaping from platform to platform in what looks like a competitive minigame in which players race through a stage to find a hidden blue switch. Power-ups are scattered around the field, but their effects aren't revealed until they're grabbed. Vault past the post break for the embedded movie.

Sony has recently updated the media section of the PlayStation 3 official website with nine new Lair videos. Above you can find the opening cinematic which, while being stunning, bodes well for the game's sense of humour and style. Coming up after the jump are eight more videos. If you'd rather download and watch them in their proper resolution (and let's be honest, you'd be mad not to) you'll find the links to the official site below. The videos show a lot of gameplay footage and tell a lot about the backstory of the game. The game is graphically stunning and, with a release within the next month or two, we simply can't wait to get our hands on it.
