(Viewers be warned that this video contains spoilers for the Wrath of the Lich King beta.)Muffins did a great job with her most recent exploration video. If you're looking for another artistic take on the new locations available in WotLK, this is the movie for you. The areas that she visits include Howling Fjord, Borelean Tundra, The Nexus (Instance), Utgarde Keep (Instance), Crystalsong Forest, Dragonblight, Stone Halls (Instance), Drak'tharon Keep (Instance), Zul'Drak, Dalaran, Sholazar Basin, and Grizzly Hills. The other day, I mentioned that Razzik may have had his exploration video removed from Vimeo. While I have yet to confirm it with him, there is a comment on Muffins' WCM page saying that they removed hers. I'll be weighing in on this shortly with some additional news from other sites, as well as recommendations for where to keep your machinima safe.[Via Warcraftmovies.com]If you have any suggestions for WoW Moviewatch, you can mail them to us at machinima AT wowinsider DOT com.Previously on Moviewatch ...

You're going to have to keep an open mind for this next video, Piece of Me. It may be based on a Britney Spears song, but it's really well done. I know that you might want to pass up on it just for the music, the same way I do with Linkin Park videos, but hear me out.The machinimator, Demachic, is a 13 year old girl from Ireland, and this is her first machinima! She managed to do better than some people on their tenth work, so it's surprising that it wasn't spotlighted on Warcraftmovies. She modeled it to look like the original music video, but it's not an exact replica. While I normally hate on excessive varying transitions, her use of them only enhances the video. I'm eager to see what song she machinimates next![Via Warcraftmovies.com - Thanks, Legs!]If you have any suggestions for WoW Moviewatch, you can mail them to us at machinima AT wowinsider DOT com.Previously on Moviewatch ...

After watching Born again Ret, I'm still not sure that I understand some of the jokes, but apparently I'm the only one. Lakez has consistently received five stars on Warcraftmovies. His epic 47-minute storyline machinima is about a Holy Paladin that reluctantly specs Ret after a life-changing incident, but enjoys it so much that he doesn't want to tell his friends. This movie is not just random. It's really random. There are about eight minutes of skits, five minutes of PvP, and the rest is part of the storyline. Although this is his second effort, he mentions that some of it was filmed before his first. I'm not sure if some of the blurry shots were intentional or as a result of taking it in a lower resolution many moons ago. Fans of this movie will have to wait quite a while for the sequel, though, as Lakez is supposedly out of town for a whopping two years![Via Warcraftmovies.com]If you have any suggestions for WoW Moviewatch, you can mail them to us at machinima AT wowinsider DOT com.Previously on Moviewatch ...

Count Vrenna created this teaser video to experiment with Adobe After Effects. However, Vaalin Chronicles looks a bit intriguing, especially if the movie ties in to the roleplaying he does on Shadow Council. His community, Roleplayer's Haven, has affiliated guilds, storylines, and even books!I'm not sure what the machinima is actually about, though. It does appear to be heavily Blood Elf focused, so maybe it starts with their invasion in Northrend? I guess we'll just have to wait and see![Via Warcraftmovies.com]If you have any suggestions for WoW Moviewatch, you can mail them to us at machinima AT wowinsider DOT com.Previously on Moviewatch ...

(Warning: If you don't want WotLK spoilers, do not look in this post. The same goes for those that hate the style of Baron Soosdon.)Inspired by his heroes, Razzik created this Wrath of the Lich King exploration video. Similar to Snoman's recent effort, WotLK White Dreamscape, as well as Wrath of the Lich King - WTF!?, it follows a dream world where a woman is floating along. He used an electronic soundtrack, color filters, and sped up some of his video for effect, all of which make for some gorgeous scenery! In light of the recent news about Vimeo banning gameplay videos, many are questioning what they consider to be machinima these days. Razzik had his video uploaded there, but either they removed it, or he did, because of this policy. I guess exploration videos are out, so does that mean music video machinimas aren't safe?[Via Warcraftmovies.com]If you have any suggestions for WoW Moviewatch, you can mail them to us at machinima AT wowinsider DOT com.Previously on Moviewatch ...

  • WoW Moviewatch: Daniel Nordh takes third in Synergy contest

    08.03.2008

Daniel Nordh's job wasn't easy. He had to take a script, The Best Kept Secret of the Horde, and turn it into something interesting. With an absurd ending and the same lines as everyone else in the Synergy Contest, his task was to stand out among the crowd, and that he did. Let's face it -- Baron Soosdon, Pinkhair, and Martin Falch not only won based on talent, but also name recognition. However, Daniel's machinima deserves to be up there among them with his third place win. He employed a Broadway theme, which helped avoid some of the ridiculousness of the script. With curtains to signify the beginning and ending of acts, he set the stage where his characters would perform -- literally! Aside from being a little long and drawn out, I thoroughly enjoyed his version. I hope to see more like this.[Via Warcraftmovies.com]If you have any suggestions for WoW Moviewatch, you can mail them to us at machinima AT wowinsider DOT com.Previously on Moviewatch ...

  • WoW Moviewatch: Ramzienator takes fourth place in Synergy contest, seeks feedback

    08.02.2008

The second and third place winners of the Synergy contest haven't uploaded their videos to other hosting sites yet, so we're going to feature one that didn't win. Ramzienator, the brave soul that he is, submitted his very first machinima to the contest. As luck would have it, he lost third place by one vote. He requested some (fairly kind) feedback from the Moviewatch audience.Remember that all scripts for the Busted films are the same and that they were asked to follow them faithfully. Ramzienator's version lacks the fancy effects that the winning verson had. You can definitely tell that he used WoW Model and Map Viewers. The characters seem out of place, and in certain scenes where the ground shakes, the background goes out of aspect ratio. Sometimes the music totally disappeared and then reappeared just as mysteriously. There's a long way to go to be on the top of machinima. However, almost placing in this contest with your first machinima is good encouragement. The bulging eyes at the end were a cute touch, too! Don't give up! What say you, critical audience?[Via Warcraftmovies.com]If you have any suggestions for WoW Moviewatch, you can mail them to us at machinima AT wowinsider DOT com.Previously on Moviewatch ...

  • WoW Moviewatch: Baron Soosdon and Pinkhair win Synergy contest by a landslide

    08.01.2008

When I wrote about the Warcraftmovies Synergy contest for machinima three days ago, I had no idea just how close of a fight it would be. The results are in and it was literally a battle to the death. Baron Soosdon and Pinkhair beat Martin Falch by a whopping three votes, with final scores of 299 to 296. Over the next few days, we'll be looking at the winners and giving requested feedback to some of the ones that didn't place.Baron Soosdon and Pinkhair's machinima followed along with the Busted script, but there were multiple little touches that really made the film. In addition to weaving his 3d magic throughout, Pinkhair also used a third party program, Crazytalk, to animate the lips of one of the characters. Caruu mastered the sound, while he, Drewbie, Olibith, and Selserene voice acted. There are also tributes to the great Shepiwot, Drewbie's character from The Grind, the Robber Baron of Warsong Gulch, and the cast of Snacky's Journal. Even I played a part in it by ruining their PR campaign -- or so they say! Try to keep in mind that neither script was good, so the contenders didn't have a lot to work with in the way of variation. Now that it's over, I hope that Warcraftmovies will use a different method for their contest next time![Via Warcraftmovies.com]If you have any suggestions for WoW Moviewatch, you can mail them to us at machinima AT wowinsider DOT com.Previously on Moviewatch ...

When we sought constructive feedback for WoWBeef, Episode 1, for Mindblade Studios, we weren't sure what reaction to expect. The machinima missed the mark in most ways. However, it looks like he took the criticism and worked on what was lacking. His latest trailer, for his upcoming series, The Night Watchmen, seems to advertise the movie without giving everything away. While it does follow the typical storyline of spousal murder and revenge, we're hoping that he attempts to keep things interesting within the format. Given that this is an episodic adventure, they're constantly on the lookout for voice actors. Ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls! What you are about to see will amaze you. In what is shaping up to be the most intense Player vs. Player battle that WoW machinima has ever seen, two contestants are facing off for your vote. The Warcraftmovies Synergy contest entrants were given the choice of two (absolutely horrible) scripts, which they had to follow to the letter, but were allowed to add their own special touches to. The result is an epic fight to the death.Though there are indeed six entries, most votes are going to our main two contenders. In one corner, we have Martin Falch, responsible for the incredible feature-length film, Tales of the Past 3, which just crossed one million downloads in seven months! He chose to work with the script, The Best Kept Secret of the Horde. In the other corner we have the dream team of Baron Soosdon and Pinkhair, with help from Selserene, Olibith, Caruu, and Drewbie. Their chosen script was Busted. Only one contestant will go home with the $1500 USD Warcraftmovies contract.Voting ends on Thursday, July 31st and the winners will be announced the following day. Check out the videos and help decide on who will win in this tight race!

(Warning: If you do not want your Wrath of the Lich King gameplay experience ruined, do not watch this video. It contains spoiler commentary, as well as footage from the beta.)Today I've featured movies in the action-storyline and PvP genres, but I'm curious to see if it's all about the WotLK beta. Nobunaga has created three movies so far in his Tales of a Death Knight series, which takes a deeper look at the Death Knight class. He uses commentary to describe what is going on, which isn't always clear in some of the other videos out there.Episode 1 touches upon character creation, Episode 2 deals with the starting quest, and Episode 3 discusses the last scenario of the starting quest. I chose to feature the last of them because I feel that it's his best. By the third video, he drops the creepy voice and offers some interesting insight. I think that once he finds his format, his series will find success. That's it for today's Moviewatch Smackdown! Would you like to see more videos like Trollbane, Tosan 4, or Tales of a Death Knight? Furthermore, why do you think that they all (unintentionally) start with a T?[Via Warcraftmovies.com]If you have any suggestions for WoW Moviewatch, you can mail them to us at machinima AT wowinsider DOT com.Previously on Moviewatch ...

Earlier today, Moviewatch Smackdown looked at a story-related action flick, but some of you may be up for some pure action. Despite its title, as well as over 230,000 downloads and a 4.94 rating on Warcraftmovies, this Rogue PvP movie, Tosan 4 - Trying Too Hard, doesn't take itself too seriously. With a typical soundtrack involving Linkin Park, as well as some humorous dialogue peppered in between the fight scenes, Tosan seems to have scored himself a crowd favorite. While it's not my particular cup of tea, I can definitely see why it received so many views -- he had fun with it!How does Tosan 4 fare against Trollbane? Is this preferrable to storyline or music videos?[Via Warcraftmovies.com]If you have any suggestions for WoW Moviewatch, you can mail them to us at machinima AT wowinsider DOT com.Previously on Moviewatch ...

We all know that I've been more than a little harsh on certain genres of WoW videos. Unless it's a storyline machinima or music video, you're not likely to see it on Moviewatch. However, I'm open to a little experimentation, so I bring you Moviewatch Smackdown. Today, I'm going to pit multiple genres against each other in a battle to the death. Our first movie, Trollbane, is an action flick, but not in the hardcore sense. We previously wrote about DTB's beginning effort, Assassine, which some felt followed too typical of a storyline. This time, he's back with a story that's not too heavy on the dialogue, instead focusing on the battle. While the editing was good, the voice acting left something to be desired and the sound levels were a bit off. He seems to improve his skills with each new attempt, though![Via Warcraftmovies.com]If you have any suggestions for WoW Moviewatch, you can mail them to us at machinima AT wowinsider DOT com.Previously on Moviewatch ...

VoodooRay, the machinimator with hits such as 300 Moonkins, The Da Moonkin Code, Voyage, and Lolwowcats, took quite a long break from WoW machinima. However, after five months, he's back with 007KIN, the spy who will cause you to flee in terror before you even see a weapon! The only thing this big, bad Moonkin is missing is babes. It's amazing how good VoodooRay is at implanting Moonkins into movie trailers. There's a new spy in town. 007KIN is kicking buttocks and taking names as he searches for answers. Personally, we think that a Moonkin makes a much more formidable opponent than James Bond could ever hope to be.VoodooRay did a great job of inserting the World of Warcraft model-viewed character into the action. This isn't the first time he's Moonkin'd a movie, though. This time around, Justin Gedzus took what would normally be an ordinary exploration video and added a unique twist to it.
