  • WoW Moviewatch: How to Paladin XXX

The day we've all been waiting for has finally arrived. Shepiwot has made a large number of movies in his How to Paladin series, but XXX officially marks his 30th. In what is possibly my favorite one yet, he hops around, dances, and kills things to epic music, but with a special flair. While having no plot, no style, and no substance, we wouldn't have it any other way. Shepiwot's brand of machinima is so uniquely bad that it has spawned insults, death threats, and declarations of love at the same time. It reminds me of my very first machinima, where I jumped about without a care in the world ...[Via Warcraftmovies.com]If you have any suggestions for WoW Moviewatch, you can mail them to us at machinima AT wowinsider DOT com.Previously on Moviewatch ..

Either Durast has abandoned this project or it's going to end up quite epic, as the teaser for Fate - The Story of Morgan Ladimore was released three months ago. However, the video by itself is pretty interesting. We hope that it ends up getting finished! The movie will be based around the quest line of Morgan Ladimore, a soldier that, when believed to have lost his family, was driven to madness and a killing spree. After committing suicide, his spirit was never laid to rest and he roams Raven Hill, killing those who cross his path.[Via Warcraftmovies.com]If you have any suggestions for WoW Moviewatch, you can mail them to us at machinima AT wowinsider DOT com.Previously on Moviewatch ...

The moment you've been waiting for has arrived! It's hard to believe that a whopping five months have gone by, but Azerothian Super Villains - Episode 6 has finally been released! Ian Beckman went all out in the production of this sequel to his popular series. It wouldn't be complete without a voiceover from our favorite guest actor, Drewbie, though! You know the drill. Illidan plots something evil, Kael'thas screws up, and everything goes awry. However, there's a lot more depth (and laughs) to it than that. In this episode, "The Virgin Kael'thas," Illidan plans to take over the island of Theramore, but needs Kael'thas to distract the leader, Proudmoore, in order to carry it out. When Proudmoore is discovered to be Jaina, a lady, will he be able to carry out his mission?[Via Warcraftmovies.com]If you have any suggestions for WoW Moviewatch, you can mail them to us at machinima AT wowinsider DOT com.Previously on Moviewatch ...

With the premiere of Azerothian Super Villians - Episode 6 set for tomorrow, we wanted to start you off with some epic weekend viewing. By epic, we mean Veil of Corruption, a 115-minute machinima that neglects the hero-based storylines you're used to. Instead, they focus on what they refer to as politics and connivery. VoC is about the struggle for control in Azeroth. In an attempt to receive the answer he has been praying for, the Alliance Grand Marshal, Paladin Valerius, goes on a soul-searching mission that leads him to the tomb of Uther Lightbringer. When peace seems to be within reach, he begins to wonder if it will last ...With voice acting in German and subtitles in English, this movie took a year and a half to make from about 60 pages of script! Believe it or not, this is actually only the initial part of a planned trilogy. If you enjoyed the first hour, check out the ending, which was too long to go in the stream above.[Via Warcraftmovies.com]If you have any suggestions for WoW Moviewatch, you can mail them to us at machinima AT wowinsider DOT com.Previously on Moviewatch ...

(It pains me to even write this, but if maya-rendered "ogre testicles" offend you, do not watch this video.)In April, I blogged a little gnome ... err, known, machinima called Unstunted Prologue. It was a short clip of a gnome being punted by an ogre. This time around, in Unstunted - Volume II, the gnomes are back for revenge. Indeed, it begins where the last one left off -- where the gnome falls in the tavern.Macky, the creator of the series, says that this will most likely be the last time that he does a video this long, and we can see why! He exported models from WoW Model Viewer and put them into Maya, made them symmetrical, rigged, and hand keyframed the characters. That's why it comes as no surprise that some shots took over 48 hours to render! The result is an amusing story with a happy ending that you'll just have to see for yourself.[Via Warcraftmovies.com]If you have any suggestions for WoW Moviewatch, you can mail them to us at machinima AT wowinsider DOT com.Previously on Moviewatch ...

Ask and ye shall receive. Readers have been requesting an action video for quite some time, however not many PVP movies kick buttocks like this one does!Kung let us know that he's back with the sequel to his popular Ring of Valor series. The previous movie focused on tigers, decaying scourge, and arena matches. This time he mixes it up a bit by showing the health bars, but eliminating the flashy effects. In addition, he included sound. For more information on the event, check out the Warcraftmovies page, and the writeup by Crocolisk.[Thanks, Kung!]If you have any suggestions for WoW Moviewatch, you can mail them to us at machinima AT wowinsider DOT com.Previously on Moviewatch ...

ChrisT has created a tutorial on how to edit World of Warcraft footage into a machinima. While he skips the step where you would capture the gameplay with a program like Fraps, he does show how to do certain things in Sony Vegas. This video is suited towards the beginner to intermediate levels of video editing, with tips on velocity, editing on beats, panning, and masking. You may need to pause or skip backwards in order to follow along, as this how-to is quite fast-paced. However, if you're interested in getting started in WoW machinima, it's worth checking out![Via Warcraftmovies.com]If you have machinima or movie suggestions from any MMO, please send them to machinima AT massively DOT com, along with any information you might have about them.

In our daily quest for acceptable machinima to feature on WoW Moviewatch, it's very rare that we ever come across someone that we feel could end up as epic as Baron Soosdon, otherwise known as Rick Astley, Jr. Apein managed to start his path to greatness from his very first (and only!) video, Animal I Have Become. We haven't been this impressed with an up-and-comer since Lagspikefilm and Gnomechewer!Apein has some big shoes to fill, but he already has a blog, where he posts teaser shots of his work in progress, and knows to upload to Vimeo. We were also impressed that he was able to keep the aspect ratio intact throughout, not get excessive with Model Viewer, blend platforms, and not go super crazy with the effects. However, we do object to the heavy blurring and the random zooms in and out. That wasn't enough to distract us from the beauty of this music video, though.[Via Warcraftmovies.com]If you have any suggestions for WoW Moviewatch, you can mail them to us at machinima AT wowinsider DOT com.Previously on Moviewatch ...

Legs is back with Silversun, a music video seen through the eyes of a child.Legs wanted to enter this in the Blizzard WWI contest, only to find out that they didn't allow Swiss entries! While this is a departure from her usual work, she did a great job with the machinima. There's no doubt that this video, Experimental Intro, is strange. It's as if Tancredis slapped on every possible effect in After Effects. We're not complaining, though, because the visuals aren't unpleasant, and it beats watching another Blink 182, Linkin Park, or Sum 41 video! Apparently he created this short clip for a Leotheras kill video, but decided to quit WoW instead. Should he have quit, or should he have finished the video?[Via Warcraftmovies.com]If you have any suggestions for WoW Moviewatch, you can mail them to us at machinima AT wowinsider DOT com.Previously on Moviewatch ...

For some videographers, machinima can be a lucrative business. Myndflame, the creators of the Illegal Danish series, have made a full time living for over a year now producing machinima for clients. Using World of Warcraft, they've recently released a commercial for Slim Jim, the beef jerky stick. In the ad, they focus on a knight that has problems rescuing a fair maiden until the product is introduced. While WoW is a popular machinima platform, Blizzard has imposed a Fair Use Guide that restricts how machinimators can profit from their work. In the case of this specific video, Slim Jim most likely received a content use license from Blizzard.[Via Warcraftmovies.com]If you have machinima or movie suggestions from any MMO, please send them to machinima AT massively DOT com, along with any information you might have about them.

However, in May, they made a post on their forums about some upcoming commercial projects that they'll be using to fund personal projects at their own pace. Now they've released what appears to be the first of the commercial projects, Slim Jim. If you've ever seen ads for the beef jerky company, you'd recognize the video style immediately. Insomniaddict Productions is hard at work on his new machinima series, Narien Asks. In order to promote the series ahead of time, he created this humorous trailer, Narien Arrives. While the video was mostly created with World of Warcraft and the WoW Model and Map Viewers, he also used Second Life to customize the truck featured briefly in our favorite scene. (This machinima may contain some adult content. Viewer discretion is advised.)At the beginning of this year, when we reviewed In For A Penny: Prologue, we called Selserene the "IT" girl of 2008. We're pleased to say that we weren't wrong. In For A Penny: Part One - "On All Eight" is a true work of art, considering that it was made within World of Warcraft."On All Eight" is about a falsely convicted man, Thayle, that puts everything on the line for a woman, who holds the key to his future. The film itself is a visually stunning masterpiece. It clearly took quite some time to write the story, find the actors, and edit a piece with such custom scenery. The result is something that would hold up against a real film noir.[Via Warcraftmovies.com]If you have machinima or movie suggestions from any MMO, please send them to machinima AT massively DOT com, along with any information you might have about them.

(UPDATE: We killed the video server for WoWTV. Great job, guys! They've fixed it for our viewing pleasure. This machinima may contain some adult content. Viewer discretion is advised.)When I first saw In For A Penny: Prologue, I noticed that the poster said that the movie would be out in Spring. Selserene was pretty sure that that would never happen, or she'd aim for 2009. Sure enough, she pointed out today that she released it with a few days to spare before Summer! In For A Penny: Part One "On All Eight" is the kind of film noir fantasy that movie buffs dream of. Thayle, the man falsely convicted in the Prologue, gambles with his heart and his future for a woman. The voice acting is great, there are musical scenes, mystery, intrigue, and for those of you that are interested, she has more Belf love ... Selserene is one of the most talented WoW machinimators that I've ever come across, and you'll really enjoy this film! One of the most anticipated machinimas of 2008, The Hunt, finally has a trailer. In January, we were given a brief look at it in David Ciavarella's music video, Welcome to the Jungle. However, we now know that there are at least 65 minutes of finished film so far, but it still doesn't have a release date yet.The Hunt trailer is brilliant in so many ways, yet fails in others. The editing is superb, but the voice acting misses the mark so much that it's almost comical. He still has time to perfect the video, though, and he'll have a long line of people waiting to see it on premiere night![Via Warcraftmovies.com]If you have any suggestions for WoW Moviewatch, you can mail them to us at machinima AT wowinsider DOT com.Previously on Moviewatch ...

Continuing on our unintentional weekend of Baron Soosdon, we came across an older video of his that isn't a music video! Instead, it turned out to be an artistic "epic raid" video of two guilds, The Beastro and Beyond Oblivion, kicking buttocks pre-TBC. Blackwing Lair: The Last Ride weaves in battles with cut scenes containing plot elements combined with the sounds in-game. What interested me more was the camera that he used, which allowed him to get distance shots.[Via Warcraftmovies.com]If you have any suggestions for WoW Moviewatch, you can mail them to us at machinima AT wowinsider DOT com.Previously on Moviewatch ...

At what age are you supposed to grow up and start behaving yourself? For this gnome, the answer is never maturing. There are girls to chase, pranks to pull, and plenty of people to offend. What's My Age Again?, named after the Blink 182 song, won't win any prizes as a machinima. However, you can see that if Mavryc practices enough, he could be great. He went a bit wild with Model Viewer, but didn't pay enough attention to aspect ratios and chroma-keying. This is the story of love and heartbreak, told through pictures and video. Tallulah, by Ronzem, is based on a song of the same name, by Sonata Arctica.I'm not sure what Ronzem was going for by using mostly pictures instead of video. It ended up looking more like a slideshow than a machinima. In addition, the text at the bottom is way too hard to read, and almost unnecessary considering the song is in English. Fans of Chronicle of the Annoying Quest will have to wait for a few weeks for Episode 25. In the meantime, Bakasavant Productions created a scary parody of an anime show, Death Note. Death Quest is simply a WoW version of the second opening for the animated series. This is one of those machinimas that leaves me scratching my head. Since I'm not a fan of anime, I'm probably missing some key element here.
