World of Goo didn't only look and play wonderfully -- we also fell in love with how it sounded. The cute squealing of gooballs was backed by one of the most varied and memorable soundtracks of 2008.And now, it can be all yours! 2D Boy's Kyle Gabler spent a weekend compiling and remastering several of the game's marvellous tracks "like they do to Snow White DVDs," and has put it up for grabs here (be warned: at the time of writing, the site is flitting on and offline). We're yet to download and listen to our copy, but we suspect it is the sweetest-sounding 85MB of anything we download this year.%Gallery-16000%[Via 2D Boy]

  • Peter Moore not so ignorant about World of Goo anymore

If you're unfamiliar with the story of 2D Boy, they left the corporate juggernaut EA, founded their own company and pretty much made one of the best games EVAR, World of Goo. Then Peter Moore saw it on some list and really didn't know what it was. Tunes change, however.Peter recently gave the game's demo a whirl and came away impressed. He found "a ton to admire" and said it was "full of impressive physics that make for an elegant and somewhat addictive experience." He promises more on his experience with the game later, so that's all he said for now.If you're interested in more from EA, like NASCAR Kart Racing, he goes on about it later in his blog post. • 2D Boy 'honored' by Peter Moore's World of Goo ignorance

Eurogamer posted its "Top 50 Games of 2008" list last week, and was immediately scolded by EA boss Peter Moore for daring to exclude FIFA 09. This story was picked up by numerous sites, but one detail that wasn't so heavily reported were Moore's views on the game that came tenth, World of Goo. Moore said he was "surprised to see [World of Goo] up so high," despite ... not having played it. For their part, 2D Boy (former employees of EA, no less) described the remark as a "compliment," and said they were "honored that World of Goo has crept this far into mainstream awareness." The pair have also confessed to deriving a "sick pleasure" from an "industry bigwig's indignant, self-righteous incredulity," though we suspect tongues were firmly placed in cheeks at this stage. %Gallery-16000%

  • Wii Warm Up: Building a tower

Quite a specific Wii Warm Up this morning, in that it's just for World of Goo players. Having recently started the game (remember that it only came out in Europe recently), I'm still only on the third chapter, but find myself constantly drawn back to the "World of Goo Corporation" mode. Here, players can construct huge, wobbly towers of goo from the excess goo balls they rescue in the main game.I am transfixed by this mode (which I realize is basically Tower of Goo, the game that kicked off 2D Boy's WiiWare adventure), and will contentedly spend a couple of hours building, before inevitably watching my creations collapse. So far, I've managed a tower of around 23 meters, which I know you guys have bettered. What's the highest you've managed?%Gallery-16000%

If you see your Wii's slot light a-glowing in the next few hours, then don't worry -- it's not some homebrew-destroying firmware update (or, regrettably, the storage solution as an early surprise Christmas present). Rather, it's Nintendo trying to bend your ear with an e-mail advert for award-winning WiiWare hit World of Goo. It's massively heartening to see the big N spreading the message for 2D Boy's puzzler (and for anything on WiiWare, actually). Next time some chump complains about Nintendo failing to lend a hand to third-parties, point them this way, eh? %Gallery-16000%

Save the best 'til last, as ... somebody ... probably once said, and that's exactly what Nintendo has done for the PAL WiiWare service. On the last "WiiWare Friday" of 2008, World of Goo leads a pack of four games. It is quite possibly the most wizard WiiWare release of 2008, and if you wish to know why, head here. Then go and buy it, and make 2D Boy the million bucks they so richly deserve. That's not to say you have to ignore the rest. Art Style: Orbient is an excellent little puzzler, Niki - Rock'n' Ball is an unknown quantity until somebody braver than us downloads it, and Sudoku Challenge! -- okay, you probably should ignore Sudoku Challenge!. World of Goo -- WiiWare -- 1500 Wii Points Sudoku Challenge! -- WiiWare -- 500 Wii Points Niki - Rock 'n' Ball -- WiiWare -- 500 Wii Points Art Style: Orbient -- WiiWare -- 600 Wii Points Build a gooey bridge past the jump for footage of all four.%Gallery-16000%

  • PAL regions joining World of Goo tomorrow

We called it, and now those lovely 2D Boys have confirmed it: World of Goo will be rocking Europe, Australia, and New Zealand's WiiWare service this coming Friday, a.k.a. tomorrow! Eeee! You may recall that the puzzler endured a rocky road leading up to its Euro/Aussie debut. At one point, plans were afoot to launch the PAL version in something known in the olden days as a "box." Fortunately, the outcry over that decision caused 2D Boy pair Ron and Kyle to opt for a WiiWare release, and we'll be reaping the benefits of that noble decision in just a few hours!See also: 2D Boy reflecting on World of Goo's success with insignificant, meaningless us!%Gallery-16000%

It's no secret that we love World of Goo. The game is great and if you don't like it, we don't like you then we appreciate you giving the game the old college try. Now, 2D Boy's most excellent title has been rated by the OFLC, meaning a down under release is closing in. With the news that Europe would be getting the game, we're now happy to see just about every territory getting in the action. Any of our Aussie readers looking forward to this one? You should be!See also: Wii Fanboy interviews 2D Boy (World of Goo)%Gallery-16000%[Via Go Nintendo]

  • World of Goo has 90% piracy rate

We received a tip pointing to the comments section of a recent RockPaperShotgun post, in which World of Goo designer Ron Carmel mentioned the game had a staggering 90% piracy rate. We contacted Carmel directly, who confirmed the figure was "about right."Carmel informs us that he's seen torrent sites with "500 seeders and 300 leechers" and has received emails from people who initially stole the game but ended up buying the full product; unsurprisingly, they make up a "very small percentage." He concludes, "We're doing ok, though. We're getting good sales through WiiWare, Steam, and our website. Not going bankrupt just yet!"Although Carmel takes it in stride, this is probably a good time for us to reiterate that the charming and fun World of Goo was developed by 2D Boy, which consists of Carmel and his design partner, Kyle Gabler. We want more goo, so please support the 2D boys properly.[Thanks, Luis]

  • World of Goo-d news for Europe

We love you, 2D Boy. Yes, you, Ron Carmel and Kyle Gabler. As if the brilliant, brilliant World of Goo wasn't already enough to make us swoon, the hunky dreamy dynamic duo have done something that bigger companies should do more: they've actually listened to the people who buy their games. Before today, World of Goo was all set to be a retail title in Europe, a decision that brought about a backlash, due to the added expense. Carmel heard the outcry, because he recently told Gamasutra: "We've caught some flak for [the decision]. Gamers were kind of annoyed. Apparently, we had no idea about this, but European gamers often feel like they're getting screwed, because games arrive late and cost more." Too true!So now, World of Goo is coming to WiiWare in Europe also! A post on the 2D Boy blog reveals that it should be coming in December, and for probably the same price (1500 points, and worth every one). And what of the extra sixth chapter that Europe is getting as a consolation prize? We're going to totally speculate that it will be made available as DLC, in which case North America could get the missing section after all. Everybody wins!%Gallery-16000%

We're actually leading with an apology this time on Dem-o-rama. We're sorry about the inclusion of Scene It? Box Office Smash! (now available in demo form on Xbox Live). We know that you probably couldn't care less, and even if you could, we imagine that you could wrap your mind around what the experience will be like without the aid of a demo. But we have a good excuse! We needed something to pair with the utterly charming World of Goo, which now has a downloadable demo (via BigDownload) that constitutes about one-fifth of the actual game. You should really be playing that now, instead of reading this. Go ahead, we don't mind.Source -- Demo: Scene It? Box Office Smash!Download -- World of Goo Demo

  • World of Goo gets Art Style: CUBELLO all sticky on WiiWare

    10.13.2008

We don't have much to say about this week's WiiWare release of World of Goo (2D Boy, 1-4 players, 1,500 Wii Points) because, quite frankly, it might actually be good. While great for Wii owners, it makes the weekly announcement post quite boring. We have even less to say about this week's other WiiWare offering Art Style: CUBELLO (Nintendo, 1 player, 600 Wii Points) since, much like last month's Art Style: ORBIENT, there's virtually nothing on the internet about it that we can find. From the official description, it sounds like Cubello might be a remake of the bit Generations title Coloris. Is this and Goo enough of an incentive to finally give Mega Man 9 a break? One week from today, WiiWare wil find itself in a sticky situation of – based on our hands-on time – the best possible kind. 2D Boy's World of Goo hits splorts onto Wii on October 13, and it, er you, won't be alone (in playing it).Neither were we when we gave its multiplayer mode a spin, blop, and splat with three other Wiimote-wielders at Nintendo's Fall Media Summit. The game was just as charming and sticky as ever, only now we were glomming gooey creatures onto one another to reach each level's exit drain as a team. It's not a hugely different play experience as a group ... it's just, well, more fun (and frantic) that way.World of Goo had us at ... whatever the goo would say in place of "Hello." Update: We just got confirmation from Ron Carmel. The game will be 1,500 Points.Fans of all things gooey, know that 2D Boy's very cool WiiWare title, World of Goo, is finally dated for WiiWare in North America. Arriving on October 13th, the game will be available for download on Wii. The only mystery remaining is just how much it will cost (although strong evidence points to a price greater than 1,000 Points). When we get word of that, we'll pass it along.See also: Wii Fanboy interviews World of Goo's Ron Carmel%Gallery-16000%

  • World of Gameplay Video

World of Goo is one of the most beautiful, creative-looking games on WiiWare (or it will be, when it shows up). Downloadable games rarely have such rich settings or such eclectic soundtracks. It would appear that developer 2D Boy is on track for the late October release they planned, because they just started heavily promoting the game via IGN. The site features four new gameplay videos, each featuring some variation on the basic tower-building task, as well as a disparate musical style. We particularly enjoy the semi-funk in the "Regurgitation" video. If the videos are too, uh, moving for you, enjoy some screenshots! And read the hands-on preview!

2D Boy updated their blog to inform us all that World of Goo has gone gold. The game is almost upon us, as they comment the PC boxed version will likely hit shelves in the first week of November. As for the online copies of the game, including the WiiWare version, they will "likely happen sooner." 2D Boy is adding the final touches as you read this to the WiiWare version and will have it submitted to Nintendo for approval at some point this month. We're very excited to see this hit WiiWare and anxiously anticipate its release. What about you all?%Gallery-16000%[Via Joystiq]

2D Boy's stick 'em and stack 'em puzzle game is finally complete, with the PC version being sent off to be duplicated and transferred to thousands of distractingly shiny discs. You can expect to see World of Goo slouching happily on a retail shelf during the first week of November, according to the indie developer's blog. You might as well pick it up while you're in the game shop -- we know you're going to be in there for the next three months. With the Goo'd news out of the way, it's time to deliver the almost good news. Folks looking forward to the Wiiware version of World of Goo need hold out for only a bit longer. "We're putting the final touches on the Wiiware version," says 2D Boy, which hopes "to submit it to Nintendo for approval this month." Judging by the recent releases on the service, we doubt that'll pose much of an obstacle.%Gallery-20573%
