Bloodvein created this video to promote the full spectator-mode Arena tournament taking place Nov. 10 and 11. This video features some driving music and amazingly inspiring animation. The Arena tournament is intended to benefit the the Fallen Patriot Fund, so it's worth your time to check it out. Bloodvein really has a knack for this kind of video; he's definitely the go-to guy if you want a kicking trailer. Take the time to check out the rest of Bloodvein's channel. He's been doing commentary for other games including Minecraft, Dead Island, and even Warhammer 40K: Space Marine. He's got some pretty awesome videos happening among the other games; if you like his stuff, swing by and check them out. Interested in the wide world of machinima? Myndflame is back with a new series titled It's Not Quite Illegal Danish. This is the first episode, so Myndflame invited Wowcrendor to join him, reprising the Gnomish role of Sproodle. Dirti G and Sproodle set out in the Eastern Kingdoms to reach that elusive level 4. This is what Myndflame said about the conception of It's Not Quite Illegal Danish: This series is not meant to replace Illegal Danish, but to provide a faster alternative to long, complex Machinima movies by focusing on short stories and character development featuring everyone's favorite Illegal Danish personalities that can be captured entirely in-game. That's not all Myndflame has been doing lately, though. Check out his latest Battle of the Blues, part of his Epic Blue Time series. Myndflame's hit an amazing stride with these videos, producing some incredibly funny videos. Epic Blue Time is definitely worth the time to watch. Interested in the wide world of machinima? When an expansion and patch gets long in the tooth, players frequently find themselves getting bored with the game. It's just a matter of time; you've played through the content that's available to you, and starting yet another alt just doesn't appeal. After all, how many times can you kill Ragnaros before it starts losing some appeal? If the doldrums strike you square in the epics, watch this video by Wowcrendor. This video examines the little tips and tricks pro players use to keep from getting burned out. While it's up to you how much of the advice is in earnest and how much is Wowcrendor's brand of sarcasm, the video itself is funtastic! Interested in the wide world of machinima? • WoW Moviewatch: The Purpler

The Purpler is a fairly straightforward Hallow's End video. A group of folks from the guild Off the Air (US-A) got together and produced this machinima. You can make out somewhere between six to a dozen actors dancing, spooking, and haunting it up to pay homage to Michael Jackson's Thriller. In some ways, The Purpler represents one of my favorite genres of machinima. It's a social event and group effort from a guild. Sure, it doesn't use fancy graphics, but it's obvious Off the Air had a hell of a lot of fun making the video. Isn't that kind of the point? Congratulations to Off the Air on a fun video; I hope you keep doing stuff like this in the future. Interested in the wide world of machinima? We have new movies every weekday here on WoW Moviewatch! • WoW Moviewatch: Grandpappy Frostheim & the Mad Elf

This video was Frostheim's entry into the BlizzCon 2011 machinima contest; it's the story of Grandpappy Frostheim & The Mad Elf. It was created using some epic footage from WHU's guild events and the dialogue even includes the vocal talents of WoW Insider favorite, Michele Morrow. While this parable boils down to a single lesson, allow me to assure you that lesson is very real. Don't touch a Dwarf's beer. With Pandaren brewmasters soon to join the world of Azeroth, I expect Dwarves will welcome their hop-soaked brethren into the strictures of beer love. Put the two halves together and a properly fermented beverage will soar to new heights of sacredness. So mind what Frostheim tells you, or the might of the Dwarven armies might soon be on your own doorstep. Interested in the wide world of machinima? I don't expect to see a lot of Diablo 3 machinima around here. Don't get me wrong; we're all going to be playing the game, especially since we're likely to get it free with our year-long subscription. But we're WoW Insider, dig? That being said, we all love Olibith, and we were excited to see him get his hands on the new Diablo 3 machinima tool. He took the app and did what Olibith does best: He made something fun with it. Sure, watching the witch doctor run around might not seem like high comedy. But this is the very first Diablo 3 machinima using custom tools, and Olibith knocked the humor out of the park. More than anything else, this video gets me excited about the game. Interested in the wide world of machinima? We have new movies every weekday here on WoW Moviewatch! We've featured the AFK Players previously, but it's been a while since we've heard from them. The AFK Players are well known for amazing graphics, a catchy sense of humor, and witty, strong narratives. They've now released what may be one of the finest machinima videos ever created, ranking up right up there with BLIND. Does that sound like big praise? It's meant to be. Even Mat McCurley said "Like, this is too good." Quest Busters has it all; absolutely astounding graphics, great pacing, and powerful characters. The animation in the video is unbelievably good. Tanx and Wiki instantly won my heart. The characterization and design of each character was pitch-perfect, and the animation tells you everything you need to know about their relation. The story is fun and includes one hell of a twist ending. I fervently hope we see future episodes. Interested in the wide world of machinima? We have new movies every weekday here on WoW Moviewatch! • WoW Moviewatch: Yesterday's News

    11.02.2011

Your regularly scheduled host Michael Gray will be back soon. He is all snowed in, and that's no fun for anyone. You've got me again. Yesterday's News by slashdance is one of my favorite WoW machinima videos. Maybe because I have a soft spot in my heart for the coolness factor of the various types of meeting stones in game. Maybe because I totally feel for the poor Dwarven stonemason who builds them. Most of all, I think I wanted to share with you all this video because with Mists of Pandaria coming out, we'll be on expansion #4. A lot of time has passed in World of Warcraft. Like ... a lot. Going back and seeing how things used to be is almost like a history lesson as much as it is a nostalgia trip. One of the things that strikes me about the video is that it's almost like watching myself play from the outside. I see people running up to stones and I see them clicking on portals, but it's not me doing it. These are actions that I take in game being represented in the fiction, but we perform that action all the time. It's a movie about a phenomenon in a game that is being portrayed as having its own reality. Whatever. It's late, I'm tired, and I love Yesterday's News. Interested in the wide world of machinima? • WoW Moviewatch: Unreleased WoW Mists of Pandaria Trailer

    11.01.2011

Before I get started talking about Wowcrendor's newest video, an unreleased version of the Mists of Pandaria trailer we saw from BlizzCon, I want to let you all know that Michael Gray is totally fine and wanted me to sub in because he knows how well I treat you all in his absence. Instead of actually treating you well, I'm going to advertise the fact that someone out there in Machinimaland needed me for a guest voice role and then, after a few days, I lost that person's contact information. So. If you wanted me for guest voice work on our machinima and I haven't gotten back to you, you should probably send me another email, because I am a dumb. Anyway. Wowcrendor. What a treat, right? Barely a week after we see the trailer for Mists of Pandaria at BlizzCon 2011, Wowcrendor pushes out a fan-made trailer of his own telling us the real story behind all of the announcements and poking fun at the new features. If you're a Wowcrendor fan, you won't be disappointed. If you're a Mists of Pandaria fan, you won't be disappointed. There are a few pieces of the video that I know for a fact will ring true, especially the leader board guy in the challenge mode dungeon. Also, I am a huge fan of Wowcrendor's take on the new talent UI. Good work, buddy. Interested in the wide world of machinima? We have new movies every weekday here on WoW Moviewatch! • WoW Moviewatch: It's the Great Pumpkin, Bullworth!

Hallow's End is winding down, and Halloween is here today. Now's the time to don spooky masks, get dressed up in ghostly finery, and trot out into the pumpkin fields. Bullworth is getting into the action, too, with It's the Great Pumpkin, Bullworth! As the story goes, the fall is a light raiding season for Bullworth. Feeling a little strapped for cash, he agrees to house-sit a spooky mansion. No dialogue is spoken in this video, which is an interesting departure from the normally dialogue-driven plots Bullworth favors. I think the final result works fairly well, although the plot feels a little choppy. A little more exposition might have served this piece well. Ultimately, I continue to enjoy the sense of fun and adventure that Bullworth brings to his video. I look forward to what comes next. Interested in the wide world of machinima? • WoW Moviewatch: Around the Campfire

    10.28.2011

Around the Campfire is Wowcrendor's entry into the BlizzCon 2011 machinima contest. The movie didn't win, but I still think this is one hell of a funny video. Unfortunately, it's hard to talk about the plot without totally giving away the ending. I'll have to stick to some of the basics in this review. The voice acting was provided by Jesse Cox, Rawrbug, and Wowcrendor himself. The vocal performances were spot-on, of course, but that's what you would expect from these three. This is an interesting departure from Wowcrendor's normal type of machinima; while this was impressive, I hope the fancier production values don't keep the master of sarcasm from churning out movies in the future. My hat's off to everyone involved in Around the Campfire. This was a great show. Interested in the wide world of machinima? We have new movies every weekday here on WoW Moviewatch! Outbreak Lordaeron snagged second place in the BlizzCon 2011 machinima contest. You can see why the movie did well within the first few seconds. The voice acting and graphics are amazing; the action is well choreographed and fluid. Jeffrey Cuiper created the machinima, and the music was performed by Walid Feghali. Voice acting was provided by Jesse Cox, Matt Greenburg, Jesse O'Connor, and Rawrbug. Daniel Whitcomb pointed out immediately that Outbreak Lordaeron is a parody of Left4Dead. I admit that I didn't recognize it. Even without understanding that video game reference, it's impossible not to get the obvious reference to traditional zombie horror. Four survivors must fight their way through the undead horde. The survivors' only hope is to use their wits, energy, and simple weapons to struggle toward freedom. • WoW Moviewatch: Too Cute to Kill

    10.26.2011

This movie by Irdeen Productions scored the third place prize in the BlizzCon 2011 machinima contest. Too Cute to Kill is an impassioned plea from Gnomes everywhere: Take the time to stop and kill the critters. If you don't, the result will be genetically engineered super-wolves that roam the forests hunting Gnomes. This movie is chock-full of talent. Too Cute to Kill was inspired by Dark Legacy Comics. It was directed by Matt Greenburg. Irdeen fielded the producer role, handling the editing, special effects, and coordinating the sound design. Too Cute to Kill is a fun movie, well worth the time it takes to watch. Kick back for a few minutes, put your feet up, and have a good time. Interested in the wide world of machinima? • WoW Moviewatch: PvP by Ken Ashcorp

    10.25.2011

PvP won the BlizzCon 2011 song contest. This isn't Ken Ashcorp's first song, but here's hoping this is the one that turns into a breakaway hit for him. On the BlizzCon floor itself, we only heard a few second of the music -- a disappointment, since you could instantly hear what a catchy tune it must be. This isn't much of a video; actually, it isn't a video at all. While we don't normally cover non-videos like this, PvP is more than good enough to make up the difference. It's hard to believe this is a battle anthem, considering the lighthearted, fun style, but PvP clearly speaks to antagonistic, heavy-breathed combat. The lyrics are clever and fast-paced, relying on alliteration and poetic timing to convey a sense of anticipation. Here's hoping someone reaches out to Ken and offers to turn this into some machinima. It's wonderful music with fun lyrics, worthy of all the attention it can get. • WoW Moviewatch: Warcraft II Unofficial Trailer

Technology has come a long way since the original Warcraft games were released, including the ability to create machinima. Given those advances, Melvenor jumped back in time and revisited his favorite video game. After spending some time in the past, he returned to us with this Warcraft II Unofficial Trailer. The audience reaction to this trailer was overwhelming. When the video cut to game footage, the entire hall burst in nostalgic laughter. The trailer isn't just one long joke, though. Melvenor laced the video with the gorgeous scenes and intense dialogue for which he's known. Congratulations to Melvenor for first place in the BlizzCon 2011 machinima contest. • WoW Moviewatch: A Hallow's End Machinima Collaboration

    by

    10.20.2011

A Hallow's End Machinima Collaboration is a classic video from a few years ago, featuring a collection of voice talent from throughout the world of machinima. Check out the credits at the end of the piece to get the full list; it really is quite impressive. In this video, Thrall essentially realizes that he has no idea how to make a good costume. He goes through a few iterations until he finally finds something that seems like it could work. Of course, tragedy ensues. This video has a fairly tight, effective storyline, which unfortunately makes it a little difficult to talk about without giving away spoilers. I do miss old Orgrimmar -- I mean, look at that place! Still, I guess Garrosh's girder-and-wrapping fantasy of Orgrimmar is cool, too. But it ain't the same. Interested in the wide world of machinima? This is Kegilert's first video, in which she examines the mysterious Creepy Crate. You can pick up the companion as part of the Hallow's End holiday. It turns out ... the crate eats critters! This kind of discovery virtually mandates some investigative journalism, and Kegilert set out to find out Is it Nommable? You can see as Kegilert sets out exploring the world on her character Arkadie, finding out which of the world's critters are nommable. The video is almost a little frightening when you consider the seemingly endless hunger of the creepy crate. I have to admit this video gets me excited to log in and go get a crate of my own. • WoW Moviewatch: The Care Bear

Ian Beckman created The Care Bear, a short machinima featuring the trials and struggles of a nonconfrontational player. As the story goes, Care Bears are players who eschew the normally violent, PVP-based conflicts in the game. In this story, an Orc Care Bear encounters a Human warrior. After some successful attempts at communication, the situation takes a turn for the worse when other Horde players show up. I was enchanted by The Care Bear, mostly because of how well Beckman conveyed emotion and plot without dialogue. No one speaks a word, but you can still empathize with the situation and characters. 10.17.2011

Once you've been a WoW player, you're always a WoW player. Even years after giving up the game, people who quit WoW look back on the game with rose-colored glasses. They remember the good times more than the bad and frequently must fight down that urge to climb just one more level. Wowcrendor tackles that with Should I re-sub to WoW? When Blizzard released free, limited accounts, dozens of ex-players came back to Azeroth to see what had changed. It turns out that nothing has really changed on a material level. Sure, Deathwing reshuffled the game board, but the game's still the same. Interested in the wide world of machinima? We have new movies every weekday here on WoW Moviewatch! 10.14.2011

The new video from Obsidian Brand and Blue Dragon Productions features the vocal stylings of Sharm. The team was feeling inspired by Portal's theme song, Still Alive, and couldn't help themselves -- they had to convert it over to our beloved WoW. Still Subscribed is somewhere between a love letter from Blizzard and a deep, lyrical complaint about the state of the game. While I don't necessarily agree with the editorial stance about the developers, the video is incredibly well performed and executed. The music is awesome, of course, but the words manage to maintain the same poetry as the original. Still Subscribed is just very well done. This is definitely an excellent piece. I hope to see more stuff with this kind of quality, because this was just amazing. Interested in the wide world of machinima? We have new movies every weekday here on WoW Moviewatch!
