  • WoW Moviewatch: Largest crit in the world

This video is a little different from our usual fare. Swifty and Cartoonz went to heroic measures to put together the largest crit in the world. You can watch as someone gets slammed by a crit for over 600k damage. I won't go into details about how the team achieved this level of damage, since that's the whole point of the video. Essentially, though, two teams got together in Warsong Gulch and conspired to apply all the buffs and debuffs possible. Don't worry about getting hit by a crit of this size in your usual Warsong Gulch gameplay. When you watch the video, you'll see that it took a lot of work and a little luck to make this crit happen. • WoW Moviewatch: The Captain's Wife's Lament

With BlizzCon about two weeks away, the WoW Insider staff is celebrating the wild, wonderful world of WoW machinima by revisiting some old favorites. Work warning: This video is based on a single ribald pun. While it's not cursing per se, anyone who hears the song will get the innuendo immediately. Kelly recommended today's staff favorite: The Captain's Wife's Lament. Originally a song performed by Paul and Storm, it was transcribed into machinima form by Spiffworld. Spiff is known for his brilliant interpretations of JoCo's work in video, and he gave the full treatment to The Captain's Wife's Lament. The strength of the video is that it's a short, single-theme joke. Spiff dives right into the innuendo, has fun with the video, and doesn't artificially draw the video out any longer than needed. The Captain's Wife's Lament is fun and ripe for a quick laugh. Interested in the wide world of machinima? We have new movies every weekday here on WoW Moviewatch! Today's video is a treat from Greyfoo and Brunhila. While hosting an all-leather rogue show, the intrepid duo opts to seek out the meaning of life and the inevitable allure of druids. Specifically, they address the mystery of the Moonglade Beat. Greyfoo created the machinima, and Brunhila provided additional vocals. As we've come to expect from Greyfoo, this video offers some incredible, gorgeous visuals. The song is smart and fun with a subtle, catchy beat. It's always exciting to see new material from him. Brunhila is a favorite of ours, also, and I'm particularly happy to see her collaborating with Greyfoo. It seems like a great match. Kick back, relax, and enjoy a hippy-trippy time with Moonglade Beat. Interested in the wide world of machinima? We have new movies every weekday here on WoW Moviewatch! Wowcrendor is tackling that sticky subject: what to do when you're bored. In How to Win at Alts, the master of sarcasm decides to play around with a new character to alleviate some ennui. While he's mostly addressing the idea of alts, I feel like he's talking about creating a new character in general. I enjoyed the ending of the video, in which Wowcrendor addresses some meta issues with his videos. I hadn't really seen anyone complain about his endings, but I guess those complaints must have happened. I applaud Wowcrendor for his self-aware humor. Interested in the wide world of machinima? Olibith created this video as part of his work on the documentary Login2life. When the director asked Olibith for his vision of a world #1 guild, this video came about as a result. The good news is that it seems like Ensidia isn't too upset with Olibith for the parody. If you're curious about the documentary, Olibith included some information about it for us: Login2Life is a feature length documentary that portrays people who have found an alternate home in an online world. Many people from the World of Warcraft community were interviewed in real life for this movie, the famous Kungen, Mikoa Chinese farmer, Corey a very special player, and even a crazy gnome with a purple turban. Featuring more than 18 minutes of unreleased WoW machinimas by Baron Soosdon, Kilh and myself. This does seem like a fun movie -- and with this lineup of talent, you know it's got to be good. • WoW Moviewatch: Class Stereotypes

    10.04.2011

While we might not admit it, most of us have a stereotype in mind when we think of each class. In Class Stereotypes by Wowcrendor, we get a brief opportunity to relive all those misconceptions. The death knight is last because it may be the most accurate of all of them. This video is fairly classic Wowcrendor at this point. It has a faint kernel of truth, which is what makes the commentary and comedy so effective. The voice acting is fun, and the video efforts serve to highlight the narrative. While the video is fairly straightforward, there's no unnecessary fluff of extraneous padding. That's one of Wowcrendor's best attributes; he keeps the videos fun and concise. • WoW Moviewatch: Warning of Warcraft

Warning of Warcraft is an odd cosplay interpretation of Warning by Notorious B.I.G. Essentially, in a creative gangster world of Star Wars and Warcraft, a gang war will rage inside a city park. Only tragedy and laughs can come from such a thing. It took me a little bit to get what's going on in the video, but once I understood they were performing B.I.G.'s lyrics, the whole production was pretty hilarious. The joke was underscored by the straight-faced earnestness with which the actors performed their lines. And hey, who doesn't love seeing Jar-Jar get a comeuppance? The embedded version above is the wookie-clean version, created specifically so that WoW Insider views could enjoy it. If you'd prefer the unedited video, you can catch it here. The '80s called -- they said they wanted someone to parody She Blinded Me With Science. After all, that was one of the best songs to come from the decade, and a whole new generation of geeks is missing out on it. Palette-Swap Ninja heard the call and stepped up to the plate. I Tried to Play Alliance is an amazingly executed parody. Not only does it really sound like the original song, but Palette-Swap Ninja really nailed the vocals. If you're not paying attention closely to the lyrics, you might well mistake it for the original song. Overall, this parody is just fantastic. My hat's off to the creators, and I hope they keep doing more. Interested in the wide world of machinima? We have new movies every weekday here on WoW Moviewatch! It's been a while since we've had a re-run of Alexstrasza. As we all get geared up to mount Deathwing and ride him into the ground, it's time we take a moment and look back at the history of the red lady. This video has always been a favorite of mine. Granted, the original song was created by Lady Gaga. I acknowledge that this fact alone disqualifies this song for play in many parts of the country, but not here. The tune is catchy, the lyrics were interpreted well into WoW, and the performance was dead on. When patch 4.3 comes around, this will be my soundtrack as we get ready to throw down with the black dragon of mayhem. Interested in the wide world of machinima? • WoW Moviewatch: We Three Dwarves

For a while, Oxhorn was doing a great job commemorating each holiday with an Oxhorn short. I guess I never even realized that he was missing Brewfest. Thankfully, Oxhorn did realize it and opted to rectify the issue. This is especially exciting since Oxhorn has been busy with a day job and not able to produce as much machinima as he once had. I really loved We Three Dwarves. Oxhorn has adapted it into a serviceable, rejoicing song celebrating that finest of adult beverages: beer. I can totally see a rowdy group of friends sitting around Ironforge singing "beer of wonder, beer delight." My hat's off to Oxhorn for getting this video in right on time for Brewfest. Hopefully, this means that we might get to see more from the musical maestro in the future. Interested in the wide world of machinima? We have new movies every weekday here on WoW Moviewatch! • WoW Moviewatch: 9 Times by Brunhila

We're big fans of 9 Crimes by Damien Rice; the music is beautiful and the lyrics are striking and haunting. We're also fans of Brunhila, who brings strong vocal talent to the world of WoW filk. Her remake of Mad World is one of my favorite parodies in the last year. Obviously, I was excited to see Brunhila tackle Rice's song with 9 Times. It's a familiar raiding story; a guild's raid has too many melee, and someone has to sit out. Make sure you watch the video all the way through, though. Something about the little girl shouting "Let's gank some noobs!" made me giggle like a madman. I really love Brunhila's stuff. Her voice is amazing, and she brings some serious vocal talent to her parodies. We could always use more of that, and I'm grateful she's doing so. Interested in the wide world of machinima? You may be familiar with Epic Meal Time from YouTube. Essentially, the popular series takes crazy food combinations and makes wild, unbelievable meals. I sometimes wonder if they take their subjects seriously or not, but Wowcrendor definitely felt it was time to address the trend. Epic WoW Meal Time addresses the culinary world of Azeroth. I admit I've not seen much of the YouTube original series, but I guess Epic Meal Time uses the word "hater" a lot. I tip my hat to Wowcrendor for the clever use of Kungaloosh, because Kungaloosh is awesome. Interested in the wide world of machinima? We have new movies every weekday here on WoW Moviewatch! • WoW Moviewatch: The Brewfest Anthem

Sphexius created The Brewfest Anthem as an homage to everyone's favorite WoW holiday: Brewfest. The video is only a minute and a half long; it's just a short anthem about drinking, the holiday, and more drinking. The music felt a little off, but I actually think that was a good thing. If you've ever been to an actual Oktoberfest celebration, you know that the singing in this video is about a billion times better than that of a crowd of drunken sots trying to keep a melody. The lyrics felt pretty close to a legitimate drinking song, so I think Sphexius nailed the vibe very well. Interested in the wide world of machinima? • WoW Moviewatch: Bitten

Croftzi's previous video, Edge of Glory, was a fun romp featuring music from Lady Gaga. While that was a fun bubblegum romp of pop music, Croftzi stepped up her game by approaching the gothic genre of Worgen. Bitten is a fairly simple plot for a video. A female Blood Elf seems to carry the wolfen curse of Gilneas. Her boyfriend shows up, does some dramatic posing (as Blood Elves are wont to do ), and then finally gets bitten by the woman. I'll avoid spoiling the video, but here's a hint: Nobody dies. I liked Bitten, even though I think the plot could have used a little more exposition. While the video is fun, I hope to see the plot moved forward in additional videos. Interested in the wide world of machinima? We have new movies every weekday here on WoW Moviewatch! • WoW Moviewatch: Explorer Timelapse

One of the interesting details about WoW landscapes is that they don't hold still. It might sound like an obvious thing to experienced gamers, but take the time look at how the world around you is moving, changing, and living. These are little details that's easy to miss, because it's not like you see the world spinning by on a timelapse video. Explore Timelapse by Mdaabil changes that. This video captures 88 zones in the space of seven minutes, stringing over 100,000 screenshots together into a coherent timelapse video. The creator kept the work in over 950 folders on his system while creating the video, finally choosing a mere 164 scenes for the final video. Our hat's off to Mdaabil for a fun, inspiring video. You know what today is. I know what today is. Even Billy knows what today is. Today is the first day of Brewfest, the finest holiday in all of Azeroth. Now is the time when we slap on some funny-looking pants, snatch up some sausage, and enjoy the Light's most glorious bounty ... beer! How to Win at Brewfest is actually a year old; Wowcrendor created it for last year's holiday. And while you all know I'm a Wowcrendor fan, I have to disagree with him about Brewfest. I really love me some Brewfest, and I look forward to it all year. Of course, that could be because I do the montage scene, just like Billy. My wife finds it terribly embarrassing. • WoW Moviewatch: The Beauty of WoW Pt. II

    09.19.2011

We occasionally see videos that celebrate the graphics, art, and the beautiful atmosphere of World of Warcraft. After all, the game has some truly astounding landscapes and incredible views; it makes sense to pay that side of the game a little homage. While I could ramble on about The Beauty of WoW Pt II, I think I'll just quote Miselain, the creator: The videos are actually based on the look and feel of World of Warcraft. I try to take things out of game and throw it into a video to show people the actual true beauty of a game, that maybe some don't even bother looking at because their too busy questing/raiding/pvping, etc; Or maybe because a few handful of people just don't actually see what's really beautiful about it. The video editing is basic and simple with some color corrections, etc; I try not to do anything extravagant with the videos, as I try to keep the feel of the video the same as what you would see in game. If you like this video, check out the first installment as well. Interested in the wide world of machinima? We have new movies every weekday here on WoW Moviewatch! Swathe Productions is a mother-and-son team we've featured before now. They create machinima as a way of spending quality time together while expanding their creativity. It's a pretty awesome family endeavor, and I'm always excited to see what they do next. In Dragonwrath: Arcane Shot is a Spell, Right?, they tackle the inevitable drama surrounding new legendaries. An impartial council gets together to sort out who will earn the new legendary by interviewing a series of applicants. And, of course, hijinks ensue. I really liked this video, and I'm impressed by how Swathe's skills are constantly improving. This was a fun machinima to watch and is a good addition to the team's portfolio. I obviously hope they continue creating. Interested in the wide world of machinima? We have new movies every weekday here on WoW Moviewatch! Have suggestions for machinima we ought to feature? Work warning: Tiny bit of cursing, some blue humor, and lots of lawlz. We don't usually cover webcasts, vlogs, and other formats on Moviewatch. While I love the format and watch most WoW vlogs that I've found, it just isn't a form of video that works out well for this column. The Adventures of Crimnox (and Sproodle) is special enough to warrant a spot. Wowcrendor and Jesse Cox are experimenting with roleplaying by recording their sessions in video form. The series has lots of voice acting from the machinima veterans and more than a few silly jokes along the way. While I'd caution you not to take these videos as truly representative of roleplaying, they sure are a lot of fun to watch. Interested in the wide world of machinima? This movie is a little different from what we usually get around here. Sure, we see music videos all the time, but we don't often get videos featuring country music. Colder not only uses a different genre of music for its soundtrack, but the movie is comprised entirely of in-game footage. That's right, all in-game footage. According to the creator, Colder was created as a send-off to friends who were leaving WoW. When transmogrification was announced, however, those friends decided to stay. So while the purpose of this video is no longer valid, Colder is still a nice change of pace. Interested in the wide world of machinima? We have new movies every weekday here on WoW Moviewatch!
