Still high on the success of Songs for Dogs, Barenger and Mirabell have created a New Years greeting for their guild, Dirt Dog! This time, they reminisce about dungeons that no one runs anymore. "For Old Alt's Sake" is an entertaining take on "Auld Lang Syne," a New Years Eve tradition. These guys are quite talented and have an amazing rapport. It doesn't look scripted at all. Hopefully they'll enter WoW Idol 2008. Happy New Years, WoW Insiders![Thanks, Infamy!]Previously on Moviewatch...Read on to see the lyrics ...

Our last Warcraftmovies Christmas Spirit Contest machinima comes from the fifth place runner up, Selserene. Her movie, He Will Redeem Us, features a musical adaptation of "Greensleeves," performed by herself on vocals and Rob Munsch on violin. You can see the high quality version or view the lyrics on WCM.Selserene weaves a tale of the Blood Elf people, their trials and tribulations, and ultimately, their deaths. When two lovers are separated during a scourge attack on Silvermoon, they end up joining opposite factions. When they cross paths again, they are forced to make a decision that will change their lives ...[Via Warcraftmovies.com]Previously on Moviewatch...

I know that there were only three winners to the Warcraftmovies Christmas Spirit Contest, but some of the runners up were really good! The fourth place tale was inspired by A Christmas Carol. Pinkhair was limited by the 8 minute maximum rule, so he expanded it a bit for the viewers! Please note that the version on Warcraftmovies is slightly different from this one. When the Robber Baron of Warsong Gulch, Caddington, goes to sleep one night, he is visited by three ghosts. When they attempt to show him his evil ways, he is indifferent. Will he have a change of heart or will he die? Pinkhair did quite a good job for this being his first completed movie. I have a feeling we'll be seeing him in the winners circle in the future![Via Warcraftmovies.com]Previously on Moviewatch...

Today brings us the second place winner of the Warcraftmovies Christmas Spirit Contest, Ugly Goblin's Christmas. Firebolt Productions, inspired by the classic book, How the Grinch Stole Christmas, have weaved a tale that warmed my heart. With the quality editing and excellent soundtrack, they were able to make the story its own, despite not being an original idea.Kryll is a lonely goblin, holed up in a mountain where no one will bother him, or so he thinks. When the children of the village decide to harass him, he sets a plan in motion that will shock and destroy the townsfolk. However, the Christmas spirit finally takes hold of him and he only has a few precious moments to save the town. Will he be able to do it?[Via Warcraftmovies.com]Previously on Moviewatch...

When a disgruntled orc, Sazabi, decides that he's had enough with getting coal for Christmas, he and Kitty devise a plan to trap Santa. However, Santa's had a rough night and just can't be arsed to deliver anything. Poor Sazabi is suckered into making the deliveries himself! Will he make it on time? Will he get another lump of coal in the end?FireShifT has made the feel good Christmas movie of the year in A Big, Bad, Green Christmas. It went all the way to number one in the Warcraftmovies Christmas Spirit Machinima Contest. We'll be highlighting the rest of the winners over the next few days. While we're waiting for Oxhorn to release a Christmas CD of WoW songs, the guys over at Dirt Dog Gaming made up some of their own! When a forum member created a thread with a silly carol, the rest of the guild joined in. Then two of the braver members, Barenger and Mirabell, sang them. You can find the lyrics in the thread. Here is the song list: Oh Karazhan, by Barenger Silenced Mage, by Mirabell Pew pew WIPE, by Barenger Orcs infesting LBRS, by Brendan Oh Holy Knight, by Jashoo Winters Veil, by Mirabell Halt, The Harried raid leader screams, by Datchery Take it on a Raid, by Qyu Tanking for the first time, by Mirabell [Thanks, Infamy!]Previously on Moviewatch...

From the creative mind of Baron Soosdon comes the season one finale of his Unlimited Escapism series, volume 4. While there may be, in his own words, no plot and no point, there are stunning visuals and a great soundtrack for your viewing pleasure. If you're looking for tons of special effects, though, you may not enjoy it, as he wanted to keep it simple. However, if you're looking for a cameo of Olibith, he has you covered. In his blog, he states that 2008 will bring two or three more Unlimited Escapisms and then the series will be finished. Baron also mentions changes that we can expect in his video format, as he is switching to h.264 encoding. Here's to a new year, Baron-style!Previously on Moviewatch...

When three friends decide to check out a party, they have no idea what they're in for. Oxhorn has released a Christmas Special like no other. It contains all of the elements of a quality tale, including an epic adventure, l33t-speak, a heroic battle against a reindeer, and pie! There's even a hilarious commercial break that mocks those cheesy late night CD commercials on TV.My only complaint is that my future husband, Hat, is not only absent, but insulted in this machinima. However, Oxhorn does take light jabs at whiners like me at the end, so point taken. You can read the full script on his blog, or check out the high quality version of this Special on Stage6.[Via Warcraftmovies.com]Previously on Moviewatch...

Video game fan art is common, but not many people film it. G. Papafigos spent a whopping three hours painting an orc from WoW and then sped it up for YouTube. If you're into the art scene, there's a whole slew of recorded fan art online. While this is certainly not machinima, I like it because it's different. It's incredible to see what someone can do with a few hours and a tablet. What I find more amazing is that this guy didn't even use layers!Previously on Moviewatch...

This Moviewatch is technically guild-related, but highlights plenty of holiday loot in-game. To the tune of a cheesy Mariah Carey song, each Bad Company guild member hops through a portal that transforms them into a gnome. Then, in true Christmas spirit, they go raiding. This video isn't going to blow you away with special effects or sweeping camera angles, but it does make me feel warm and fuzzy. Has there been a Winter Veil machinima that made you feel that way?[Via Warcraftmovies.com]Previously on Moviewatch...

When two teens decide to hack into the Blackbird Human Computer War Network, they have no idea what they're in for. Meanwhile, in Azeroth, the government finds out that they're under attack. Against the advice of an underling, the head of state declares war. This is obvious nod to the 1983 classic, "War Games," but it's still quite enjoyable. Beckman Movie Productions made the Machinima for the GameRiot "Dawn of the Blackbird Machinima Contest." Apparently the Writer's Guild strike is even affecting World of Warcraft machinima. TheGlassCannon decided to parody America's Next Top Model with some disastrous results. In addition to the models kicking and punching each other, an audience member was chosen to pick the challenge. He wanted them in a more relaxed setting that wasn't very becoming of a lady. rocko1016 must be feeling nostalgic. He put together a machinima based on a character, Snow Miser, from the 1974 Christmas movie, The Year Without Santa Claus. In the movie, Snow Miser has the ability to control the weather to make it cold all over Earth, but in the machinima, he can control it in Azeroth. The video itself doesn't consist of much, but the timing and animations are great! It reminds me of my childhood, spent watching the Care Bears battle Professor Coldheart.Previously on Moviewatch...

When an enterprising goblin miner, Patchie, accidentally releases an orc that has been frozen for years, they have a lot of catching up to do. Starting at patch 1.05, they take us on a storytelling journey, seen through the eyes of the major characters. Along the way, there are epic battles, potion selling, and a friend using his fortune to open a ... zoo? As Patchie and the orc arrive at their destination, with golden piggy in hand, the orc has an opportunity to meet his hero, Thrall. After becoming disillusioned and temporarily losing his way, he sets off to be a hero in his own right. However, everything is not as it seems! The AFK PL@YERS, a Taiwanese machinima team, created The Patchie Chronicles to celebrate the 2nd anniversary of WoW launching in Taiwan. Most viewers will have to pay close attention, as it is narrated in Chinese, but subtitled in English.[Via Warcraftmovies.com]Previously on Moviewatch...

Jean-Claude Van Damme's French "What's Your Game" commercial, promised a few days ago, has gone live, and I rather like it. He is, apparently, a troll mage; he's put his physical combat days behind him. My French is a bit rusty, but I can catch most of it, and for the rest, Blizzard has kindly provided an English translation:

If you've been checking out the WoW Europe events page with any regularity, or if you play on the Bronzebeard server, then you may already have heard about, or even come across, this neat little event, dubbed the "longest conga line in Bronzebeard". Inspired by similar events on US realms, Xmortal organized the event, with Cosu in the lead, and an open-ended invitation on the forums for anyone to join in the fun. Although the event took place on November 24th, the official video understandably took a few days to edit. If you like dancing the conga, or watching characters /follow en masse, you'll enjoy this short but cute video. We here at WoW Insider have hosted our share of cool server events in the past, including our Stampede to Stormwind with members of It Came from the Blog, our own guild that anyone can join. Of course, we also made our own video of the event. Have you ever participated in, or hosted, a server-wide event?

  • WoW Moviewatch: The gnOmen

    11.17.2007

Today's Moviewatch is another machinima piece by Olibith, which is at once scary and laughably absurd. It's based on a trailer for the movie, The Omen, about a father who finds out that adopted son is actually the son of the devil. The gnOmen uses gnomes instead of humans, of course, but it's still frightening to see bad things about to happen to the adorable little humanoids... or is it just weird? Personally, I like Olibith's Somethin' Stupid much better, but different sorts a people like different sorts of machinima. If movies like The Omen creep you out with demonic symbols and such things, then I advise against watching this movie. Otherwise, what do you think? Is this horror, or comedy, or both?[Via Warcraftmovies.com]Previously on WoW Moviewatch...

  • WoW Moviewatch: The Simpsons Game, Neverquest trailer

A while back, I found out from Gamebunny that a spoof on the MMO genre is an important part of The Simpsons Game, which just went on sale at the beginning of this month. We featured a Simpsons WoW spoof in a WoW Moviewatch some time ago, and as you can see from this trailer, a lot of the feeling and sound of the game is very reminiscent of WoW. Somehow this sort of making fun feels to me like the very height of praise for WoW and the impact it's had on the market. If the Simpsons make fun of it, it's got to be good. This portion of the game is called "Neverquest," and I would definitely try it out if I could. Has anyone played this? Is it as fun as it seems in this video? Does it actually play at all like WoW plays, or is the similarity only in the look of it? Previously, on WoW Moviewatch...

Yet another episode of the quickly-becoming a fan favorite series The Guild has hit the 'net, and in this episode, the players decide to all meet up in real life. Always an interesting experience, and as you might expect, this happening is no exception. One of the series' charms has always been that it perfectly captures the experience of being an MMO guildie, and the punchline at the end of this one is probably the best and most real joke I've seen in the series yet. No matter how much my guildies and I may or may not have in common whenever we meet up in real life, there's always one thing we can all count on. Funny stuff. Thanks, Paul!

  • WoW Moviewatch: Drugs, my anti-World of Warcraft

    by

    10.28.2007

A simple premise done well. I can't say that I officially recommend drugs as an alternative to this game (or that I agree with the idea that doing drugs is better for you than raiding for epics every weekend), but I thought the joke here was done pretty well. And especially well for just some kids messing around. The sound, colors, and the music all worked, and while you can't fault those anti-drug PSAs for doing what they do, they do have a certain style to them that begs to be parodied.
