Some scans hit the net today for this game called The Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass. You've probably never heard of it. It looks like it's a game based around spinning a small boy dressed in green, who is armed with a sword, shield, and sleeping cap, while his twin brothers cheer on. The scans come from magazine Nintendo Dream and also showcase a rather large, rosey-cheeked character wielding a massive paintbrush. It looks as if you'll be able to control the small kid, whose name is unknown, through the stylus and touch screen. We're not too excited about the game since it's relatively obscure, but we felt obligated to post about it for the benefit of the three people out there looking forward to it.

We received far more entries for our intentionally brief Odama screenshot contest than we imagined. We've now seen more Scientology jokes (it's the one religion you're allowed to make fun of), Star Wars scenes (man you guys are nerds!), and even an MSPaint-applied wiener (you know who you are) that we think is allowable by law. In comparison, our selection was a pretty safe bet. The formula for a winning entry is as follows: Dress Tom Cruise as Link Make him crazy (note the red eyes...and Tom Cruise) Add revmote (natch) Add dialog to taste Voilá! Winning entry! Nice job RS! Odama is on its way to our great neighbor up North. A big thanks to everyone that entered our humble little contest. Keep reading to check out some more awesome (and deranged) creations from our runners-up.

  • More Official Nintendo Magazine scans

Some more scans have been leaked to the interweb from the upcoming issue of Official Nintendo Magazine showcasing an extended interview with Nintendo's Shigeru Miyamoto and details for NIBRIS' Raid Over the River and Sadness. The information on Raid Over the River and Sadness isn't new, and the article features the same concept art that NIBRIS' website displays. The last scan shows Link in front of the Revolution and is too blurry to make out, for the most part. In squinting my eyes, all I could read was Shiggy saying "What I can say is that I think the Revolution controller creates quite a different play style for Twilight Princess."

Since showing off the latest offering in the Zelda series at GDC, the vast amount of message boards that inhabit this interwebbed world we live in have lit up with posts of painful yearnings for the latest Hyrulian adventure and "Celda is teh gay agian lawls WTFBBQ." In attempting to fill the gap in time up until this year's E3 with something, IGN has posted a frame-by-frame analysis on the Phantom Hourglass trailer. In doing what you've likely already done, they dissect the video and offer up their opinions on what the game's final release build will be like.

Lupi is working on a lawsuit project in which Hyrule's sword-swinging savior stars in a 2D platformer. This title is to feature a hearts-based life system as that of the real Zelda titles and Link's traditional weaponry such as bombs and his trusty master sword. Lupi aims to recreate the universe and unique skills of Link, and has already implemented almost all of the green-clothed lad's sword strike maneuvers. No word as of yet on when a playable build will be available.[Via DCEmu]

Lots of "Link sounds" Title screen Most of the sword attacks (including air and spin attacks) Bombs Arrows 8-direction boomerang Lupi is currently coding the "enemy engine." Watch The Legend of Zelda: Hero of Time and dazzle at the thrilling spectacle of "a boy from a mysterious forest" in "a legend as infinite as time." There's an evil threatening him and a princess summoning him, so there's only one thing to do: put the tights on, grab the Master Sword, and mess up some Moblins. Alright, it's a fan film but I'd honestly pay more to see this than oh, I don't know... anything by Uwe Boll. They're saying that principal photography is in the can, with post-production work on animations and CGI left to complete. The Zelda fanboys in the house can read more about the production here. The British Gaming Blog has nabbed a video showcasing the just-announced Legend of Zelda: The Phantom Hourglass. The video is pretty high quality, and definitely not some amateur bootleg from a keynote attendee. The footage shows off a multitude of ways DS gamers will use both the touch-screen and dual-screen features we've come to know on our handheld. The one that has us most excited is where you actually draw the path of Link's boomerang.Graphically, the game looks impressive--it is amazing how much of the cel-shaded look they managed to fit into a little DS cartridge. We are definitely looking forward to getting some hands-on testing with this title.[Thanks, JonathanEx]

Today is an amazing day! We're knocking two recurring stories off our plates: the PS3 delayed/not delayed saga (for those not keeping score at home, it's officially delayed) and the rumored Twilight Princess Revomote functionality. In an interview for Nintendo-Europe's VIP Lounge members, Nintendo's Shigeru Miyamoto said, "...one of the most important features is that, because Revolution can run GameCube software, when you play Twilight Princess on Revolution you can take advantage of the Revolution controller."There you have it folks, the tumultuous tale of Twilight Princess and the Revomote has come to a close. It's officially delayed, will launch alongside the Revolution, and will feature enhanced functionality. What sort of functionality? We're guessing everything from boomerangs to fishing games, with a couple secrets thrown in for good measure. The Revolution Lifestyle has posted a preview snippet of the UK's Official Nintendo Magazine. The preview implies that the next issue, due out March 16, will reveal new information on Zelda: Twilight Princess in the form of screenshots and additional game details. One can hope, but wasn't it the Official Nintendo Mag that said the Revolution stand was also a power supply? Yeah, it was. Silly "production errors." But let's hope they get this one right.

  • Reggie interview: Over 1,000 Revo dev kits sent out

In Engadget's most excellent interview with Reggie Fils-Aime, Nintendo's VP of Sales & Marketing, it is revealed that Nintendo have already sent out in excess of 1,000 Revolution controller development kits, allowing potential software creators to try their hand at the Japanese giant's great gaming gamble.  If anything, this shows that there could very well be loads of third-party developer support for the Revolution, at least to a much greater degree than what the Gamecube experienced. Reggie goes on to say that "The response to the controller has been fantastic. Developers are truly embracing the innovation. They’re embracing the approach and quite frankly, they’re embracing our vision; our vision of creating games that are as sophisticated as the core gamer wants it to be but could also be as straightforward and as accessible as brand new gamers." Another point worth mentioning is Reggie's continually changing stance regarding Gamecube games being played on the new console. Reggie tells us here that Gamecube games will only function with Gamecube peripherals and not with the Revo controller. Where does that leave Twilight Princess? Well, we're going to stick to our guns and suggest that a Revolution "Twilight Princess: Special Edition" will be running straight into the crossfire come E3. • Twilight Princess to be "magical" on Revolution

Since we've danced about this issue with Reggie before, we feel that we're quite familiar with the steps by now. This EGM interview scan shows Reggie strongly alluding to some Revolution enhancements to what is undoubtedly Nintendo's flagship title for this generation. In fact, the only thing missing here is wanton winking and a mildly painful elbow jab to the rib. C'mon, just admit it! It seems that Nintendo's marketing cyborg is the only one that doesn't blatantly exclaim what a great idea it is to make the massively anticipated (and delayed) Twilight Princess a pseudo-launch title for the Revolution. It's sure to satisfy Gamecube fans staring at all the blank spaces on their console's release list, and it's just the kind of powerful franchise a launching console needs to usher in its capabilities and ideals. As the man says: Any Nintendo fan would love to see that.[Thanks dsub!]

Despite the incessant back and forth, the unending rumor and rejection, it looks like The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess will feature "special" Revolution functionality! In an interview with EGM in the upcoming March issue, Reggie all but confirmed it saying, "The trick will be what makes it special to play on the Revolution, and to the extent that we could create something like that, boy, wouldn't that be fantastic?" It sure will Reggie. I mean would... it sure would. We all anticipated this functionality when the info got leaked the first couple times. So now that the speculation regarding future Revolution controller compatibility is gone, it's time to speculate on what kind of functionality the game will have. I'll begin: Wind Waker-style music composing? The fishing minigame will rule! Swordplay FTW? Grappling hook? On second thought, not sure that one's gonna work.Follow the whole tumultuous affair:Zelda: Twilight Princess delay is officialTwilight Princess back on schedule Twilight Princess gone 'til NovemberNintendo shoots down Revo details: "still speculation"Magazine reveals Revolution details: Zelda, Super Smash Bros., Donkey KongaNintendo dismisses Zelda use of Rev controllerZelda: Twilight Princess can play on Revolution controllerReggie: Twilight Princess still GameCube-bound[Thanks, dsub]

  • Crazy Zelda cosplay

This collection of cosplay photos (roughly Zelda-themed, but with a liberal sprinkling of Mario) over at GAF runs the gamut from cute through to frightening. The capability of game fans to come up with inventive ways of making their favourite costumes is sometimes simply unbelievable. Many characters' costumes are lovingly designed by the original artists, and often overlooked in games, so it must be nice for the creators to see others appreciating their work like this. We hope the levels of "appreciation" don't scare the original designers as much as they scare us, though.[via 4cr]

While it's not exactly the kind of publication we thought would break all sorts of Revolution news, National Geographic Kids Magazine was invited by the Big N to test out the top-secret Revolution controller in Tokyo. They report, "The Revolution will be available later this year. You'll be able to use it with games you already have as well as with new games. Here are some old favorites and a few of the things you'll be able to do with this revolutionary new controller."Wow! Let's break that down a bit: The system will be out this year. You can believe they got this straight from Nintendo and it is consistent with earlier rumors. 2006. Done. Backwards compatibility is of course something we've known about for awhile; however, the "old favorites" mention is so provocatively vague! They list The Legend of Zelda, Super Smash Brothers, and Donkey Konga. Question is, are they listing games or franchises? If they are listing games, does this mean the "old favorite" versions of these games (Wind Waker, Twilight Princess, Melee) will use the Revolution controller to slash a sword or work as a shield? Nintendo recently said they "made no announcements" regarding such functionality. This of course does not mean there is no such functionality. If they in fact meant "old favorite" franchises, can we infer there are next-generation versions in the works? Did they get hands-on time using the controller? Are all three games in active production, complete enough to be shown to the press? Either possibility is far more than they've shown in earlier press demos, where they used simple gameplay demos with crude graphics to emphasize the interface. There is, of course, the possibility they were shown those same demos, and were told by Nintendo what they could expect, to snazz up the story a bit more... but why invite them out to Tokyo for just that?Fine, we admit: Nintendo has us wrapped around their precious little finger, making us feel like awkward teenagers, gaping at a pinup of the Revolution controller in our proverbial high school locker, swooning over every little nugget of news, knees buckling whenever Shiggy or Reggie open their mouths... how much longer can we stand it?Read on for the rest of the images.[Updated: Nintendo has stated this is "all still speculation." Boo![Big thanks to John for the images!]

When I was a kid my older brothers were always using their LEGOs to build the entire Star Wars universe. By the time I got older, LEGO was doing that for me-kinda took away from the fun, you know? I'm relieved to find out that you can't buy the LEGO-version of just any popular franchise... yet. That's right, if you wanna play Zelda, then you're gonna have to build Zelda! [Thanks, Shizzle]
