60GB Xbox 360 pops up in Target -- where else?
Amazon and Circuit City might have that new 60GB Xbox 360 SKU up for pre-order with delivery in August, but Microsoft's game console has always tended to pop up in Targets first, and this time out's no exception -- yep, there it is, hanging out in NYC. Anyone seen one poking around the dish towels and cheap-chic furniture at their local? Let us know in comments!

You're lucky you have an awesome avatar because I would've down voted you if you didn't. No joke.
Sly Fox @ Jul 28th 2008 7:05PM
Thx?
lostarchitect @ Jul 28th 2008 5:37PM
there's a target in NYC? i had no idea.
CraigC @ Jul 28th 2008 6:54PM
It's is Brooklyn baby! Right near atlantic station..
I'm lookin' at it right now
Derrick @ Jul 28th 2008 7:05PM
It is in Marble Hill which is like the northernmost part of Manhattan...which is actually connected to the Bronx...LOL.
JAmerican @ Jul 28th 2008 7:41PM
I still think that area should be apart of the Bronx. That's some bull.
DEEZNUTZ @ Jul 28th 2008 11:52PM
Rego Park, Queens has one.
Forrest @ Jul 28th 2008 5:37PM
I'm glad this unit is being released. It allowed me to get the 20GB version for $275 after you count the $25 gift card Target gave me for buying it :P
Darth Abe @ Jul 28th 2008 5:43PM
I really hope they drop the price of the harddrive upgrades at some point. $180 for 120gb is just ridiculous
grull27 @ Jul 28th 2008 5:57PM
Considering that the 20GB is $90, $180 for 6 times the size is a great deal.
Danny F. @ Jul 28th 2008 6:06PM
Yeah but not to be fanboyish or anything but prices for hdd today are much lower. Hell for a $100 you could get a 400GB+ drive. The prices for the hdd on the 360 aren't as justified as they could be.
Seminole @ Jul 28th 2008 6:07PM
grull27,
Except for $200 you can get a regular 750GB hard drive at Best Buy. For $180 you can easily get over 500 anywhere. Microsoft gives Xboxers the shaft with proprietary HD's.
On a side note, I really want to pick up a 20GB 360 while the sale is going one, but I have a PS3 and all the games I want are generally multi-platform, so for now I still can't justify the money. Maybe sometime in the future when I get some more money (I just had to buy a new car) I'll pick up a 360.
chris fredette @ Jul 28th 2008 6:35PM
While I agree the hard drive price is too much it isn't that bad. The 360 uses 2.5" drive not the 5" you are talking about. Obviously you know nothing about this subject or you are a useless troll.
I still can't figure out why thay don't sell larger hard drives for cost. All it does is make people happy and allow them to buy more stuff.
cesium @ Jul 28th 2008 7:00PM
Obviously you know nothing about this subject or you are a useless troll, as he is talking about 3.5" drives, not 5"
zshift @ Jul 30th 2008 12:22PM
the funny thing, though, is that the ps3 and 360 both use 2.5" hdds, but you cuold just buy a 200GB drive off of newegg for $99 cheapest and swap it in the ps3, and 120GB is almost double the price for 360, even though all the hdds use sata interfaces...kinda hard to justify all that money for a propietary enclosure is you ask me
IgnorantTechie @ Jul 28th 2008 8:35PM
Newegg.com has the exact harddrive that Microsoft charges $180 for (of course, in it's propietary casing) selling for $64.99.
http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList.aspx?Submit=ENE&N=2010150380+50001306+1309721216&name=120GB
So, those that want to say that the price of the 120GB HDD is reasonably priced, if you really consider $115 markup reasonable...or maybe the propietary case is just really really expensive.
MastrCake @ Jul 28th 2008 5:53PM
But can it play Doo... Oh wait. It can.
Gus @ Jul 29th 2008 12:16PM
Even if you could come up with a clever joke involving that tired old meme, it still wouldn't be funny.
MastrCake @ Jul 28th 2008 6:12PM
That was a bit harsh. Maybe next time you could just settle for low ranking me?
totoro @ Jul 28th 2008 5:55PM
Even more shocking, I actually saw a Wii for sale at our local Target.
El Taco @ Jul 28th 2008 6:02PM
so are 60gb hard drives going to be available separate?
Jagster @ Jul 28th 2008 6:46PM
yes
dextro @ Jul 28th 2008 6:09PM
Now how long till us europeans get it?
Chris @ Jul 28th 2008 6:11PM
Can we confirm whether or not Jasper is out yet?
M!KE @ Jul 28th 2008 6:23PM
yeah i just got out of work, i work in a NJ Target, and i put them on the floor 2day
Chris @ Jul 28th 2008 6:42PM
What are the power supply requirements listed on the box?
austin @ Jul 28th 2008 7:03PM
um... an outlet.
Chris @ Jul 28th 2008 7:10PM
Not quite, there these magical units called Watts that measure the power draw of a device. In this case, knowing what the box says would be helpful as it may point to a motherboard revision.
M!KE @ Jul 28th 2008 9:00PM
Well i can check out everything 2m when i go back to work. i didnt get a chance 2day
jas0nuk @ Jul 29th 2008 8:17AM
It's likely to be a Falcon. I don't think they were going to reduce the GPU size until at least September.
M!KE @ Jul 29th 2008 6:39PM
yeah guys i checked it out 2day and the box is the same as the old pro but this one just has the 60GB HD. I wanted to take a few pics but we had executives come in 2day and i didn't get the chance.
M!KE @ Jul 29th 2008 6:52PM
oh yeah i forgot to tell everyone... it don't display the watts... above the distribution in en/us crap they wrote xbox pro system 60gig ..and what else came in the box
tbone @ Jul 28th 2008 7:07PM
im still holding out, have they fixed the disc scratching and rrod problems?
Chris @ Jul 28th 2008 7:25PM
RROD for sure, I've never experienced scratching, so IDK. I sold my original and just bought a 20gb at the recent price drop. I play mass effect for 8 hours and the top of the xbox isn't even warm to the touch. RROD was heat related, and they've obviously fixed that.
Rick James @ Jul 28th 2008 8:13PM
No the RROD still happens, it seems like this will be an on going joy for the 360's life. But if u buy a more recent 360 its covered for 3 years warrenty from M$
But be sure not to buy the Innercool, other wise that voids the whole thing
GRT @ Jul 28th 2008 7:32PM
Yeah I can't wait until someone cracks one of these open. I'd love to replace my 360 with one that, y'know, works consistently. Hopefully this model has a new motherboard and will be more reliable.
Chris @ Jul 28th 2008 7:34PM
New mobo is coming in August or Sept, we're just waiting to confirm if all 60gb will be new mobo (jasper) or it will transition in the next few months.
Backlin @ Jul 28th 2008 7:42PM
"Anyone seen one poking around the dish towels and cheap-chic furniture at their local? Let us know in comments!"
Well, I have seen it in the electronics department...
wht @ Jul 28th 2008 7:47PM
its a xbox360? who cares? seriously only 14 yr old boys give 2 shits about that pos
Chris @ Jul 28th 2008 7:49PM
I know, it's tough being 13 isn't it? It's ok, just one more year buddy.
The Dude @ Jul 28th 2008 10:43PM
LOLPWNED.
Chris @ Jul 28th 2008 7:47PM
I just want to get the 60gb hdd separately for under $100, I don't need 120gb and I can't justify spending that much for something I'll never use.
Rick James @ Jul 28th 2008 8:11PM
I bought a 360 a long time ago back in 06 and i got the RROD in december of 07'. Lucky it was from costco, so i got to return it and got another one for free :) but i mean the longer and longer i have this one the more and more it seems like i'm getting the sharp end of the stick jabbed at me all the time for buying earlier.
I have a pro with 20gb hard drive in it, and i cant see spending more than $80 for a new hard drive. I wish it was like the PS3 where u put ur own hard drive in, but no i forgot this is M$.
And BTW if u buy a new hard drive, i don't think the data transfer kit transfers ur saves. So i get to start all over with everything. GREAT innovation. And my 20GB hard drive is just like a RROD xbox, just another paper weight....
Alright done with my rant... for now :?
Bandit5317 @ Jul 28th 2008 11:45PM
I realize you shouldn't have to, but there is a mod where you can use a certain model 120 gig WD that costs about $80 along with some homebrew software that will make it compatible with the 360. I don't know the specifics off the top of my head, but a quick Google search could probably get you to a tutorial.
Bandit5317 @ Jul 28th 2008 11:55PM
Well IgnorantTechie actually answered which hard drive you need. The hdd in the link in his post is the hdd used for the mod.
Ninjakamster (PS360 FTW!) @ Jul 28th 2008 8:13PM
Its too bad the 60gb HDD can't be bought standalone until October/November, I need a HDD for my Arcade now!
Or better yet, let it use basically any 2.5" HDD like the PS3 unlike MS's proprietary overpriced HDDs. $100 for a measly 20gb and $180 for 120gb!?
Joe @ Jul 28th 2008 8:18PM
I hate it when people pronounce the name of the store as tar-JAY, it's pronounced tar-GET! Giving it a fancy name won't give value to the cheap crap you get from the store!
lostarchitect @ Jul 28th 2008 8:23PM
joe, i think they say it as a joke. you know, "tar-jeeah, classier than wal-mart!"
Backlin @ Jul 28th 2008 9:27PM
Didn't Target originate from France?
