Goodbye E3, WWDC here we come!
Listen, E3, we had some good times. We shook like maniacs for your motion controllers. We jammed with the band (and our resident DJ, Stab Master Arson). We skated all over the place. We liveblogged like crazy. We basically took your news flow and funneled it into a succinct package of mind-blowing media snacks. But that was then, and this is now. We had to hightail it out of town, because a certain someone needs our special brand of tenderness... and that certain someone is Apple's WWDC in San Francisco. We'll miss you E3, but only a little bit.
Seriously guys, gear up for WWDC this coming Monday (June 8th), where some kind of new phone or something might get announced. Here's the page you'll want to plant yourselves at (feel free to bookmark), and here's what time you'll want to do said planting:
07:00AM - Hawaii
10:00AM - Pacific
11:00AM - Mountain
12:00PM - Central
01:00PM - Eastern
06:00PM - London
07:00PM - Paris
02:00AM - Tokyo (June 9th)

new phone? i think all details should be out by now
darkstar @ Jun 4th 2009 11:50PM
yawnnn
wake me up when the phone can multitask.
even my 5 year old blackberry has been doing that!
Zak @ Jun 4th 2009 11:56PM
Darkstar - Maybe you can explain how the iPod can run in the background while you do other things if the iPhone can't multitask. How about getting calls while you're in Safari? Pretty sure it needs to be able to multitask to do that. Getting SMS messages no matter what app you're in requires mutitasking too, and so does Mail getting email in the background and Safari loading pages in the background, all of which the iPhone has always been able to do.
ShirkPower @ Jun 4th 2009 11:57PM
Cmon Apple,
lets pwn these iClones :)
ShirkPower @ Jun 5th 2009 12:00AM
@zak
Just ignore the troll dude,
next thing you know he will say that all 50,000 apps are fat apps and thats why he doesnt like the iphone.
Look_Around_You @ Jun 5th 2009 1:05AM
Ironic that the people that infest threads, and troll their brains out attacking those products, actually worry about trolls on Apple threads?
ImaYam @ Jun 5th 2009 1:15AM
Zak, multitasking isnt where ur phone is playing a ringtone and you are cooking a meal. Multi tasking is when the phone can have many apps running at the same time, as well as app integration (calender with emails, etc). I could be running, forbes, bloomberg, buzzed, brickbreaker, word2go, gps, etc, and STILL get texts, calls and everything in between, all while grilling a steak.
THAT is multitasking.
roach @ Jun 5th 2009 2:02AM
Macheads often say:
Macs are Porsche and PC are Hyundai.
Are Macs Porsche with a Hyundai engine?
Or PCs are Hyundai with a Porsche engine?

Trent @ Jun 5th 2009 6:45AM
Zak....you are in idiot. I have an iPhone so please don't redefine what multitasking is for the benefit of the Apple religious cult. Why do you think Apple is trying to allow programs, well up to 3, to run in the background...TOO ALLOW MULTITASKING...hence the ability of the phone to do several things at once which it CANNOT at this moment unless you wanna listen to "your" music while surfing the tiny Safari in a tiny screen. I just want the phone to let me know I have an email besides a tiny little ping sound that occurs only once. The phone needs functionality too. Hopefully 3.0 after 3 years Apple will get halfway there.
iphonerulez @ Jun 5th 2009 6:54AM
OMG, OMG, OMG! This is the official start of the new millenium. I haven't felt this way since I found out the world wasn't flat. And if Lord Jobs actually makes an appearance, I'm going to splooge in my knickers. If the rumor is true that the iPhone can actually allow users to time travel plus the battery lasts for ten hours of continuous video, I'm going to be the first on line to buy one. Cheer me in, Apple employees. Here's my money. Where do I sign?
And to think there were people that were actually excited about the Palm Pre. No comparison to the real deal. The amazing iPhone Video. Your new mobile, hand-held video studio.
Plus, there's Snow Leopard, the world's greatest desktop OS that can run rings around Windows 7 for the mere upgrade price of $129. It multitasks and never crashes like Windows does. This will be the greatest, most phenomonal WWDC in history. Thank you, Apple. My life is now complete.
Boards of Canada @ Jun 5th 2009 7:44AM
Mac like porsche?mmm not really. More like BMW. Solid, a bit conservative and not too fast.
But really, I dont know anything about cars.
darkstar @ Jun 5th 2009 8:46AM
as far as i know, and everybody on this planet know, the current iphone does not multitask!
calls and sms and receiving mail work in the background, and thats about it
can you make a call, stay on it, and then jump over to safari to discuss a website? when you are done, you jump over to Bejeweled because your friend is boring you. you notice you got mail and then jump back to Bejeweled while your boring gf is asking what color of dress shes should get. can your precious phone do all that at once? no??? i didnt think so. i bet you didnt know other phones can do that did you?
Aaron Daniel @ Jun 5th 2009 12:15PM

UM... you obviously haven't used an iPhone.
You absolutely can do other tasks while talking on the phone. You just can't play bejeweled and check email at the same time.
BKM72 @ Jun 5th 2009 1:20PM
Why do we have to wait???? Just release the damn thing already.
I'm sick and tired of the "Pat myself on the back" dog and pony shows that they do.
Ever notice how most companies usually introduce new or updated gadgets quietly into the market?
Not APPLE (or MS).....Nooo....they have to display themselves like kings so all the gadget droolers and come kiss their feet.
Just release it and STFU already......We get it, your proud of yourselves.
KJ @ Jun 5th 2009 1:44PM
@darkstar
Actaully....yes it can do all of those things. On the 2g iphone you could browse safari (on wifi) while on a call, send an sms while on a call, play bejeweled while on a call, LISTEN TO MUSIC while on a call, watch youtube vid while on a call,
Heck you could even be listening to music, on a call and sending sms or browse safari all while it checks your mail at the same time (lame that the email notification isnt customizable).
On the 3g iphone you didnt even need to be on wifi to do all those things concurrently (just had to have 3g signal).
You're obviously an idiot. Stop trying to knock something until you have FULL knowledge of the subject matter.
I've owned 2g and 3g iphone....I cant wait to get rid of the iphone. I hate it. For reasons why see the techcrunch article from today.

New iPhone here we come!
Wes Steele @ Jun 4th 2009 11:19PM
Again, another conference from Apple in order them to try to flaunt their mediocrity and "new, innovative features" and call them something great. Look at the iPhone for example, their probably calling themselves geniuses because they managed to get copy and paste, and MMS on a phone which should have had that to start with.
"We bring you here today not just to talk about our products, but our innovatite genius. We here at Apple have spent countless hours coming up with something we think is truly magnificent. We like to call it, 'Copy and Paste'."
chambo622 @ Jun 4th 2009 11:23PM
it'll be "unbelievable."
"mere mortals" with copy and paste? this is "huge!"
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QOVRgVPrGlQ
Matt @ Jun 4th 2009 11:27PM
Just curious, do you actually think your thoughts are original and therefore worth expressing? Clearly, the original iPhone's main goal was to nail the UI and user experience in general, not pile on features. The feature list has steadily and consistently risen over the last two years, and you're still filled with negativity. Go away.
Templarian @ Jun 4th 2009 11:27PM
I want to see the comedians have a hay day with this. "Did you hear about this, new iPhone got announced today [cheering from crowd], the new most anticipated feature copy and paste, get this with this new features users will be able to take text and duplicate it other areas of the phone. I think they are onto something here."
Michael Le @ Jun 4th 2009 11:33PM
Apple did something no other cell phone company did at that time. They nailed the UI and delivered a phone with impressive things like safari and really did a good job on things like the "phone app". But yes I agree, why wasnt MMS, or copy and paste there before. And what about that camera. You can get a cheap phone that takes videos.
Phineas J. Whoopie @ Jun 4th 2009 11:51PM
@Michael Lee
Agree on all your points. Apple created a revolutionary mobile experience and user interface.
However, you must know the reason there's a crappy camera, and that MMS, copy/paste, and 3G (from the original) were all omitted was to cleverly leave Apple's consumers a reason to buy the next iPhone, and the next, and the next.
That's the Apple game. And, when you have a loyal following who'll buy your new phone/music player every year, why not dribble out the updates to keep them hooked like crack addicts on huddled around the bunsen burner?
I for one, hope they kick ass and exceed expectations. Not because I'll be buying an iPhone3 (which you can be certain will again omit something obvious which makes everyone say WTF), but because I want them to push the rest of the free market forward, so the *next* Android or whatever phone I do buy will be better for it.
Quix @ Jun 4th 2009 11:58PM
@ all you sniveling Apple haters:
Isn't sad that a phone without copy & paste (iPhone) is *still* better than your crappy favorite (Windows Mobile)?
Try not to grind your teeth to powder next week...
Zak @ Jun 4th 2009 11:59PM
Wes - Apple had copy and paste in 1981 on the Apple Lisa, long before Windows was even a glint in Bill Gates' eye. Please be less stupid, and that goes for everybody agreeing with him.
Cy Starkman @ Jun 5th 2009 12:00AM
Wes, u is a trolling foo...
Go play with ur Pre-jeculation or Wein-Mo...
Cool I can write like an engadget reader now too
The iPhone's not perfect, wow wes, that's some genius observational work there, u could earn money sorting recyclables down the shelter.
ShirkPower @ Jun 5th 2009 12:01AM
hahahah zak just pwned you haters :D
bjsguess @ Jun 5th 2009 12:02AM
Quix I assure you that I there is no teeth grinding. I have a WinMo phone by choice. If I had wanted an iPhone I would have one by now.
Look_Around_You @ Jun 5th 2009 1:12AM
@ Quix
Again, you clowns go on other threads and just attack and flame other products like it was going out of style, but you have the nerve to then sit here and start mouthing off about "apple haters"?
So what type of "haters" does that make you?
Ryan @ Jun 5th 2009 1:31AM
Reading these comments make me feel very sad about life. The thought that people care so deeply about these companies--enough to have such petty arguments about them--disturbs me on a shallow level.
Ryan McGrory @ Jun 5th 2009 5:31AM
It's fun!
People have died over their favorite football teams here in Glasgow, it's just what happens, people think something is good, and if another person disagrees...wtf? time!
