MSI GT640 houses Core i7, claims to be 'world's most powerful gaming notebook'
Man, Core i7 laptops just keep coming and coming (kinda like Arnold). The latest in what's sure to be a torrent of companies upgrading their premier products to Intel's finest quad-core battery killer is MSI, with the GT640. Though MSI hasn't yet specified which of the trifecta of Clarksfield chips it has inside the machine, we do know there's a 1GB NVIDIA Geforce GTS 250 taking care of graphics, as well as options for up to 4GB of DDR3 RAM, half a terabyte of storage and a Blu-ray burner. Other notables include a two megapixel webcam, HDMI, 7.1 channel audio output and an eSATA input. While we don't yet know the wallet damage for that red-striped aluminum alloy body, its Windows 7 installation would indicate a release some time around, oh, October 22 perhaps? One more shot of the keyboard and screen after the break.

Update: The German announcement for this machine has been more forthcoming with the details. There's a 1680 x 1050 resolution, 4,800mAh battery and a two-year warranty among the things we didn't know about before, and the most important thing, the CPU model, is now revealed as a 1.6GHz Core i7 720QM. [Thanks, Johannes]

WANT ONE!!!!
I want one of those "Most powerful gaming notebook" too but who are we supposed to believe?
Alienware/Asus claim to have the "most powerful gaming notebook" too :/
+ GTS250 = epic fail this is far from being most powerful for gaming.
Nvidia graphic cards are it's on that order (From best to worse for those who don't know)
* GeForce GTX 280M
* GeForce GTX 260M
* GeForce GTS 260M
* GeForce GTS 250M
* GeForce GTS 160M
* GeForce GT 240M
* GeForce GT 230M
* GeForce GT 130M
* GeForce G 210M
GTS 250M performance-per-watt ratio is amazing though if you care about battery life for a "gaming laptop" i guess.
MSI products are just copies from Asus.
@Techie:
No they're not.
Not too sold on the numpad. A 15.4" isn't really outfitted for full keyboards. At least not for people with sizable hands. :(
Maybe there going for the fastest gaming notebook you can actually carry. Laptops like this are appealing to me, as they are actually laptops and you can take them around to a friends house without a fork lift or feasibly carry through an airport.
Honestly I dont get the appeal of 19" gaming laptops with desktop processors and dual sli cards etc. How can you expect such hot electronics jammed into a tight space with poor ventilation to last any long period. Not to mention the 30 minute battery life and lap searing heat.
What's the price?!?!?!?!
A lot.
@Einhanderkiller how MUCH is alot? cause for me its like $300...lol im a cheap ass gamer.
Keep dreaming.
3 arms and 4 legs, thereby ensuring no one will ever be able to afford it.
I'd say $2,500+
But could be higher.
Lower? Doubtful...
"3 arms and 4 legs"
Might be conjoined twins out there who could pull that off.
"Man, Core i7 laptops just keep coming and coming (kinda like Arnold). "
That's what she said.
I think he was referring to this:

With a GTS 250M, its decent, but not the most powerful gaming laptop. Sager already has a Core i7 15" gaming laptop with a more powerful GTX 260M, MSI, you fail!!!
RKN= EPIC FAIL.
Ok, then tell me, where can someone purchase an i7 notebook from Sager? Dell already sells its M15x for $1,499.
BTW, I won't be the least surprised if MSI decides to sell this notebook well below the average gaming notebook's price. They've been known to be discounted heavily when sold through vendors like Amazon.

There about a couple dozen other places, but I didn't want to take up any more room ;-)
Sager/Clevo without a doubt, has the most powerful gaming laptops.
Dual GTX280M, and 3 drive 1.5TB Raid array FTW!!!
Oh yeah, and some of there laptops are absolutely gorgeous.
Nice for under 6 pounds, very stylish, non-mac laptops are so freakin ugly, though i love my vaio fw
There are so MANY, MANY things WRONG with this statement.
"...non-mac laptops are so freakin ugly [= YOU FAIL], though i love my vaio fw = [SONY = FAIL]"
Worlds most powerful laptop would be a Core i7 with dual GTX 280M or dua Mobilityl HD4870. lol @ GTS 250 and claiming to be "most powerful gaming notebook".
How did the "l" in "Mobility" jump an entire word?
Oops, meant the "l" in "dual," but you get the point
Shitty Razer keyboard likes to add in letters where it sees fit.
You can't handle Razer!
Hi,
I am fond of technology this type of technology was really great i like it most.
And this will helpful me so i will definitely use it.
brustkrebs
It's not the most powerful, but it should be good enough considering it might be priced competitively. MSI's 15" gaming notebooks hover around $900-1400. I remember them before having a laptop with a Mobility Radeon HD 4850 for only $1300.
MSI Sucks Alienware has the most powerful gaming laptop
go away fanboy...
I agree that alienware notebooks are well constructed and their 15" i7 offering is very compelling. It has all the gadgets a man needs to game.
But I don't know whether it's fair to right on the spot say alienware's necessarily better. Both offer competitive products and MSI is known for pricing low.
Alienware sucks with their 8X-10X overpriced shit. Alienware is like Sony, you pay more for the brand, but it Sony's case the product usually only costs 1.5-2x than others, but comes with special features, design and build quality. While Alienware, are selling the same shit you can build for $900, or buy from another company for $1300 for $5000+
That my friend is a ripoff.
This is not the most powerful laptop, mediocre RAM, the graphics card is older, this thing isn't up to snuff.
Here's a thought Macjonny, how about you stop being a wanker, contribute positively to discussions and you might find you enjoy it more than being an embarrassing troll. Try being a tech fan instead of a brand fan and you'll see there's a big exciting world out there.

Oops, sorry, wrong thread!
17" GT729 Quad core/4gb ddr3/HD4850 at $1600 was the best for its price
15" 250m is a bit of a backstep
they should just refit the GT729 with the core i7 720qm or 820qm
another fanboy
uhh Excuse me.. i have a mac infact im typing this from a mac WTF are u on they are talking about Gaming laptops macbooks are far from gaming laptops Even the macbook pro Doesnt even cut it unless its for casual gaming stop being a fan boy ur a bad image for all of us and guess what I HAVE AN IPHONE but u dont see me running around bragging and to be honest i love my G1 and Blackberry more... they are just more useful if ur not playing
Aj
I wonder whats the price...
"world's most powerful gaming notebook..."
...for a few weeks.
sager/clevo has had this beat for a few months actually.
Exactly. I feel like I've heard the claim from nearly every notebook manufacturer...
And 1.6GHz doesn't SOUND like the most powerful.
if it's core i7, does that mean it is quad core?
Yes.
Go sodomize a cow, fanboy.
