First official Droid 2 pictures spotted in teaser site code?
Astute reader Dominic was just minding his business, hunting for hints in the Droid Does website source code, when what should he allegedly discover but an entire Droid 2 spread inside a Shockwave Flash file. To our knowledge these may be the first official images of the Motorola A955, though of course we've already seen it a number of times before. We just need Verizon to leak an official announcement with price and release date now -- we're hearing August 23rd -- and perhaps a nice Hollywood trailer to round things out. See a larger version of Dominic's discovery right after the break.

sexy
@Coke it huge !!!!!
Sure is!
@Coke
really?
@Coke
i prefer swype to an actual phsical keyboard for less depth as well as faster typing, less things to break as well ya kno?
ANDROID FTW
@Coke ANDROID IS EPIC!
Here's the MOST epic Android Ad EVER!

@Coke And this thing looks like it has a Xenon flash!!?
@samsoniteace
No software keyboard will ever compete with a good hardware keyboard, like the Touch Pro2's
@statickeith
I'm surprised they didn't upgrade the camera/ make a more radical redesign.
@Coke
2 Air bubbles on top right corner.
@Coke
boring. outdated look, extremely ugly chin, lmao at pull out keyboard. ugly like its predecessor.
@MicrosoftOwns How about actually contributing to the conversation instead of being a troll
@uckApple That's the notification LED and the light sensor.
@Coke At least we finally have a more modern stock android device on Verizon, all the Sense and Blur was driving me crazy.
@uckApple ....or a front facing cam with flash.
@Coke
Meet the new boss... same as the old boss!
@EGOvoruhk The iPhone keyboard compares with a hardware keyboard...touchpro 2 keyboard Is sick, but iPhone autocorrect and spell checker and symbol options are uncomparible, sense keyboard is next closest
@Coke No it's not sexy are you kidding it may have some cool features but sexy it's is not. Big clunky pos
@Nanosman1994
Muscle phone. Fits in nicely with the Droid image of a manly phone for manly men. Very manly. Very muscular. A rugged man, his truck and his Droid...LOL. Looks great!
@Coke
That's what she said. But seriously, they could reduce the depth of it. looking forward to days when HTC, Motorola and Samsung improve their camera quality!
@Coke
I like it.. this will never come to sprint though. : (
@That guy 2
No, it doesn't. Not even close. No auto-correct can compare to physical accuracy. If you're looking at overall speed, Swype-derived keyboards seem to be where it's at (SlideIT is my personal favorite of that batch). I have seen some insanely quick Swype users that smoked any iPhone texter I have ever seen. My brother is a good example, he has pretty much stopped using the physical keyboard on his Droid because of it, but he admits for long, drawn-out conversations the keyboard is a bit better...but he doesn't often have long, drawn-out conversations.
@EGOvoruhk That's subjective.
@Coke Signed bootloader? If so, I won't consider purchasing it. Android is supposed to be about freedom, but Motorola has perverted this fine thing and made an abomination.
@uckApple those are features.
@Coke
Do you know what would make this phone look twice as good? The removal of that ugly carrier logo at the bottom...
@MicrosoftOwns You're an idiot. That is the proximity sensor for the phone
@Coke
It is good looking, but seems like if they just used the old one, jazzed it up a bit and put better memory and cpu in it. The first one is great (I currently own it), but I would of thought they'd put more stuff in the new one. For one, I don't think the screen's any bigger or higher resolution, the bigger phone would of been better for the physical keyboard. Also, where's the front facing cam? Why is it still the same camera? Why isn't there another mic for noise cancelling?
To me, seems like they didn't try enough with this one. Like if they thought "oh, the first one did well, let's just make it faster and sell it again". They didn't push the boundary, which is one of the reason why I like HTC, but they need to put out a qwerty phone damnit!
@MrHands I agree with you that it looks like a front facing camera but I hope that there is no flash (I don't think that arms-length is far enough away for a camera flash).
@bob1000
Isn't the rumor that the Droid 2 will also have a version of Blur? Similar to that of the Droid X? Because if that's the case, I'm not interested in the slightest. I'm looking forward to a stock Android device, something like that of a Nexus one successor
Nice!
@aubreyq
I agree its awesome. But I hope its better than the DROID X cause the X in my opinion isn't as good as the EVO.

@nuclearopts
Eww
Sent from my iPhone
@nuclearopts
I rad ur review, and it concludes by saying : The DROID X is almost completely eclipsed by the HTC EVO 4G in terms of features, Apart from a kickstand, and a front facing camera, wht features in the evo4G "eclipse" the X
@nuclearopts
Another Evo spamming dumbfuck. The X is better in every way save for a front facing camera and stupid kickstand.
@aubreyq
>Motorola
>hates technical users
Not interested.
Not that I think its ugly, its just looks kind of old to me. Anyway Im sure its a great phone, I would probably buy it if they brought it to my country.
@carlosol
I really like the design, save for the chrome trim. I hate the trend of glossy plastics that has taken over electronics recently. They get dirty so very quickly, and unless you clean them constantly or wear gloves they're a lost cause.
@carlosol
I'm with you here. Not that anybody expects Motorola to beat Apple at industrial design, but why are all Android phones so ugly? Not that it's necessarily hideous, but it's just completely boring and cheap looking. It just looks like their designers don't care.
@nlschlax
I agree. If I'm gonna pay through the mouth for a device or commit to a 2 year contract I atleast expect the phone to feel like its worth it. The touch diamond 2 was close and the iP4 is great but something with features of the zune hd would make me really happy.
@carlosol
Does it really matter what it looks like? Most people buy ugly silicone cases and skins for their cell phones anyways. ;-)
@carlosol
as a DroidOrig owner, i think the Droid is one of the few smartphones out there that has a definitively masculine feel. Glad to see they're keeping that tradition.
@owen66
Of course, as a proper man, I always accessorize my masculinity with my cellphone.
@carlosol
You have to consider who this phone is for. This is the phone for the geeks. Motorola's already got the Droid X out there if you want an iPhone-alike in an Android flavor. This is a phone with a physical keyboard - something that's almost becoming an anachronism these days, but which a lot of really hardcore people consider EXTREMELY important. (I flat-out won't buy a phone without one, which is why I'm still puttering around on my HTC Fuze.) This is a phone that's all about function over form.
Anyway, it's not ugly, and looking "old" is not necessarily a bad thing to its core market. Look at the ThinkPad. Is it beautiful or modern-looking? No, and that's actually one reason why it's popular. Some people actually want their stuff to look like it's made to do things rather than to look pretty.
Unless Moto does something to drastically screw this up, I'm most likely going to be buying a Droid 2 shortly after release. (Unless anyone can point me to another Android phone with better specs and a keyboard, and that's not vaporware.)
@tobsmonster2
The Incredible is a great looking phone, and it works really well too. Now only if Verizon could get it in stock... stupid AMOLED displays. =P.
Disclaimer: AMOLEDs are kinda awesome, I'm just hatin' on the fact that they're being delayed so much.
how big is the screen? Any Specs yet?
@TheMan70
Was expecting more than a 5mp camera. It seems so yesterday... and its not even out yet.
@Did I miss something
Iphone 4 has one. Just saying.
It has the same internal specs as the Droid X but with a 3.7 inch screen, physical keyboard and 5MP camera.
@JXCGunrunna
Difference is, the iPhone 4's camera produces an image quality higher than just about all other competitive smartphones with an 8 MP sensor. We'll have to wait and see if this Droid's camera is better than it's predecessors mediocre one.
@TheMan70
It looks like a 3.5" screen. But if I lower my screen resolution, it definitely looks closer to 4.7".
