Croft, Comic Jumper, TMNT this week's XBL Deal of the Week, Torchlight next week
This week's Xbox Live Deal of the Week deals are organized under the generous umbrella of "Mutants and more!" The soon-to-be-pulled TMNT: Turtles in Time Re-Shelled is available for just $5 / 400 Microsoft Points until July 4. (Note: Ubisoft told us it would be pulled at the end of this month.) That's certainly mutant-themed, so what's next? X-Men Arcade is also 50% off at just $5, so that's another mutant-themed offering. So there's something of a theme here ... ... except the other three games are non-mutant-themed! The excellent Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light is 50% off, dropping the asking price to just $7.50 / 600 Microsoft Points, while both Comic Jumper and Hard Corps: Uprising are 50% off, dropping their sticker prices to $5 / 400 Microsoft points each. While we love those deep discounts, is it too much to ask for a solid theme? Next week's offerings, while more thematically consistent, aren't nearly as delicious. The highlight for "Heatin' Up Summer" is definitely Torchlight for 33% off, at $10 / 800 Microsoft Points. Less enticing offerings include: Dante's Inferno DLC, a Medal of Honor map pack, and a Red Hot Chili Peppers album for Rock Band.
Amazon's vorpal sword cuts $20 off Alice: Madness Returns
As if it'd taken a swig from a bottle labeled "Drink Me," the price tag on Alice: Madness Returns has diminished in size at Amazon. This week only, the retailer is offering American McGee's second excursion into Wonderland for $20 off, making it $40 on PS3 and 360 and $30 on PC. The deal is available only "while supplies last," and joins similar week-long discounts on Brink and The Witcher 2 -- which is also a fantasy game, but features far fewer flying pig snouts.
Dance Central tracks discounted on Xbox Live this week
Dance Central beats are price dropping until June 20 for Xbox Live Gold members. The "Dance Central Marathon Pack" for 1680 MSP ($21, 50% off) is the best deal for 14 songs. The Marathon Pack includes all the tracks from the four individually discounted track packs (1, 2, 3, 4) except for three: Missy Elliot's "We Run This," Sean Paul's "Temperature" and Chic's "Le Freak." If you've got your heart set on any of those three tracks, you'll have to pick them up in their respective discounted pack for 640 MSP ($7.50, 33% off). There are also some singles for 160 MSP ($2, 33% off) that are included in packs or individually. Yeah, it's about as confusing as learning to Bernie for the first time.
Oblivion expansions, Fallout 3 DLC half off on XBL this week
It's been nearly five years, but that notorious Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion "Horse Armor" DLC is finally on sale. Along with the "Shivering Isles" and "Knights of the Nine" expansion packs, the equine armor is discounted by 50 percent as this week's Xbox Live deal. Keeping with the Bethesda theme, three of Fallout 3's DLC packs -- "Mothership Zeta," "Operation Anchorage," and "Broken Steel" -- are similarly discounted, as well as a handful of Avatar items. There has never been a better week to dress up an Avatar as a Vault 101 wastelander and buy virtual armor for a virtual horse. Head past the break for the full list of discounts.
PSA: Cheap Booty on Xbox Live this week
Yar! This be a reminder that the Xbox Live Deal of the Week be pirate-themed this week. Gold members will find several piratical games on sale, includin' Monkey Island, Age of Booty and Deadliest Warrior. If ye be findin' your purse overflowin' with funds, there be Avatar items fer barter as well.
LA Noire 'Rockstar Pass' add-on spotlighted in Xbox Marketplace release schedule
Microsoft today sent out the release schedule for Xbox Live Marketplace content over the next two weeks (May 10–23). The schedule was posted in the latest edition of the "Xbox Live Newsbeat" press email, which showed next Tuesday's L.A. Noire "In the Spotlight." "In celebration of launch on May 17," the newsletter teases, "take your L.A. Noire experience to the next level and download the 'L.A. Noire Rockstar Pass' add-on." The Rockstar Pass what now? Releasing day and date with the retail game, the 800-point DLC "Pass" is presumably a sort of Project Ten Dollar experiment. It's unclear, however, if it will provide access to the pre-order bonus content (already confirmed to be made available for purchase "at some point after the game comes out") or offer wholly new content to all owners of the game. Perhaps it's a sort of Cerberus Network-like pipeline for delivering new detective cases -- but that's just a guess. The Pass remains a mystery for now, as Rockstar has yet to respond to our request for clarification. Otherwise, the new Marketplace schedule has few intriguing reveals. Besides noting some previously announced dates and several Games on Demand launches, it does list Sega Rally Online Arcade for release on Xbox Live Arcade next Wednesday, May 18, for $10. Some pirate-themed deals and the demo of Fable 3 for Windows will also be available next week. Head past the break for the complete schedule. Update [5/18/11]: The due date came and went without the so-called "Rockstar Pass" appearing on the Xbox Marketplace -- and no mention is included in new copies of the game. Rockstar continues to keep mum on the subject.
2K Games DLC marked down for Xbox Live Deal of the Week
If you're of the opinion that the respective, already-pretty-massive worlds of BioShock 2, Borderlands and Mafia 2 could use a little expanding, you can do so on the cheap this week. Xbox Live Marketplace has discounted select DLC for the three titles as its current Deal of the Week.
XBLM 'coming soon' schedule features a few sales, fewer surprises
This glimpse into the next two weeks of Xbox Marketplace releases might contain a few buried treasures. But we wouldn't consider the Lego Pirates demo one of them.
XBL Deal of the Week is having a Spring Fling
The Xbox Live Deal of the Week is going for a spring theme this week, offering discounts on several vernal games and items. Of particular note are Peggle and Ilomilo, both of which can be had for just 400 points each ($5), and you can throw in Peggle Nights for another 200 ($2.50). You'll also find it cheaper to deal with the zombies on your lawn, as Plants vs. Zombies has been knocked down to 800 points ($10). If none of that is appealing, you could always snag an Avatar monkey prop for 120 points ($1.50), because nothing says "spring" like monkeys.
XBL Deal of the Week: Bad Company 2 DLC
We're sure you marked your calendar when we first reported the Xbox Live schedule for April, but we figured a reminder was in order (just in case!). The latest Deal of the Week is for Battlefield: Bad Company 2 DLC, which is available for half price and includes both Onslaught mode and the Vietnam expansion. And, if Vietnam is just too recent historically for you, Battlefield 1943 has also been discounted. The deals expire after April 11. Check out the available savings after the break.
PSA: XBL Deal of the Week now launches on Tuesdays
Microsoft's Major Nelson has dropped a note on his Twitter account that the Deal of the Week promotion will now roll out each Tuesday instead of Monday. The Major noted further that the weekly promotion will now run each week from Tuesday until the following Tuesday. To help cement this drastic change in your brain, here's an example. This week's deal is Sonic the Hedgehog 4: Episode One, which will be discounted from 1200 points ($15) to 800 ($10). When will it be available? Tuesday! That's right! When will the deal expire? Next Tuesday! Oh man, you guys are good at this.
XBLA sales are highlight of Marketplace updates in back half of March
Major Nelson has posted some upcoming Xbox Marketplace releases and sales for the rest of March; notably detailing the remaining Deals of the Week and dating the obscure Islands of Wakfu (pictured) and the even more obscure Seisou Kouki Strania. The complete schedule is posted after the break.
XBLM in March: Lara Croft deals, MvC3 and Dragon Age 2 DLC, free Gold weekend
Major Nelson has posted highlights from the Xbox Live Marketplace schedule for March. First up, the Dragon Age 2 "Black Emporium" DLC -- free to those who purchase new copies of the game -- will land on March 8 for 800 points ($10). Second, as promised, bonus characters Jill and Shuma Gorath will be available for Marvel vs. Capcom 3 on March 15 for 400 points ($5) each. In other XBLM happenings, March 7 kicks off a Lara Croft themed "Deal of the Week," which will see Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light knocked down to 600 points ($7.50). Lara Croft DLC will also be discounted by fifty percent. Also, the week of March 14 will see several St. Patrick's Day deals, notably some discounted Green Day DLC (green -- geddit?) and Social Distortion's "Bad Luck" for Rock Band. Finally, Xbox Live Silver members can enjoy free Xbox Live Gold this weekend, beginning Friday, March 4 at 12PM ET through Monday, March 7 at 12PM ET. Head past the break for a more complete schedule of releases.
Cheap Tom Clancy DLC sneaks onto Xbox Live
It seems Sam Fisher has hacked into Xbox Live, reducing prices on a large selection of Tom Clancy-related DLC for Gold members. What's that? You say Sam Fisher isn't a real person? This is just the Deal of the Week? Well fine, Mr. Smarty Pants. Find the deals after the break.
Upcoming Xbox Live sales to feature half-price Pac-Man DX, discounted Clancy content
If next week's blitz of Tom Clancy-brand discounts on Xbox Live doesn't eat up your remaining Microsoft Pellets, you'd be wise to invest some in Pac-Man CE DX the following week, when it's on sale for $5. The only thrill greater than being chased by a ghost train is turning around and eating it!
Blacklight: Tango Down to half-price on XBLM this week
Microsoft seems to have shunned the obvious promotional theme of the week in discounting Blacklight: Tango Down for XBLA. But then, who's to say intimate, multiplayer deathmatches aren't romantic?
XBLA deals for next week are decidedly anti-alien
Do you hate aliens more than every single one of Will Smith's cinematic personas combined? We don't blame you: Extraterrestrials are the worst. We plan on getting some cathartic release with next week's XBLA deals, which mark down a few of the platform's more anti-alien titles.
PSA: Hydro Thunder Hurricane, Hydrophobia, Aqua discounted on XBLM this week
If you have to pee really, really badly, well, you probably should head to the bathroom anyway, but reading this post about savings on water-themed Xbox Live Arcade games certainly won't help. All this week, Hydro Thunder Hurricane is going for 800 MS Points ($10), while both Hydrophobia and Aqua are dropped by 50 percent to just 400 MS Points apiece ($5). Now you can try out that enormous update that Hydrophobia received or go Steampunk-crazy in Aqua for just $5. Don't forget to bring a towel!
Sales from the Crypt: Zombie-themed deals on XBLM this week
Well, it's the second Monday in January, meaning it's time to kick off the 31st Annual Zombie Awareness Week. (They're everywhere, you know!) Microsoft's doing its part, marking down Left 4 Dead 2's "The Passing" DLC and many other undead items this week on Xbox Live Marketplace.
XBL Deal of the Week: Avatar thrift shop
Hey, remember all those super great deals on Xbox Live that capped off 2010? Those suckers are gone. Sorry, but the only deals you're getting this week are on assorted Avatar props and outfits, one of which is actually based on a game. And there's a rabbit suit. So yeah, Happy New Year.
