  • Saints Row: Gat Out of Hell pre-orders at GAME get oujia board

If taunting spirits in a video game just isn't enough for you, you might be the type of gamer that developer Volition and publisher Deep Silver are targeting with their Saints Row: Gat Out of Hell pre-order promotion. According to a press release, if you pre-order either Gat Out of Hell for Xbox 360/PS3 or the Saints Row: Re-Elected & Gat Out of Hell combo pack for Xbox One/PS4 at UK retailer GAME, you'll receive a oujia board which you can (supposedly) use to contact the dead. Okay, so it's kind of a weird pre-order bonus, but remember the Dubstep Gun that came in special editions of Saints Row 4? A ouija board (or "Wee-Ja" as this particular model is called) is downright tame compared to what the Third Street Saints gang has in their arsenal. The ouija board also acts as a sort of ticket to a bigger prize. By sending in a picture of the ouija board in use, would-be mediums get entered for a chance to win a night on the haunted town with UK spirit medium, Derek Acorah. Saints Ros 4: Re-Elected and Gat Out of Hell will be summoned to PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, Xbox One and PC platforms on January 20 in the Americas and January 23 internationally. GAME lists Gat Out of Hell at £24.99 and Saints Row 4: Re-Elected & Gat Out of Hell for £34.99. [Image: Deep Silver]

Saints Row publisher Deep Silver is auctioning off a truck based on one of the franchise's vehicles for charity. The studio's 1956 Ford F-100 available for bidding on eBay starts at $7,500 and has just over 80,000 miles on it. The truck is decorated to look strikingly similar to the Genki Manapult truck offered as a pre-order bonus and DLC for Saints Row: The Third. The real-life Genki Manapult vehicle is complete with its trademark cannon, which shoots t-shirts as opposed to people. As of this writing, the auction does not have any bidders. All proceeds for the auction will go to Wings for Life, a not-for-profit spinal cord research foundation that funds "world-class scientific research and clinical trials around the globe aimed at healing the injured spinal cord." The auction is slated to end on Saturday, December 13. [Image: Deep Silver]

This week's edition of Microsoft's rolling Deals With Gold promotion is aimed at variety. From the bleak gloom of post-apocalyptic Moscow to Pixar's sunny vision of a child's bedroom, the sale has something for everyone. On the gloomy side of things, both Metro 2033 Redux and Metro: Last Light Redux are now available for the Xbox One at $16.74 a piece. Those wishing to see the entire dark saga can purchase the likewise discounted $33.16 Metro Redux Bundle which includes both remastered shooters in a single package. Games based on Disney properties form the core of the Xbox 360 discounts. More than a dozen games, ranging from rebuilt platforming classics like Castle of Illusion to movie tie-ins like Cars, are available at half price. The Saints Row 4 Season Pass is also half off, but even more importantly, Saints Row 4 itself has received a 70 percent discount to a price of $10.49. As always, Deals With Gold discounts are only available to Xbox Live Gold subscribers. These discounts are valid now through December 8. Tucked inside an unassuming FAQ is news that Yager's first-person open-world zombie apocalypse fantasy Dead Island 2 will enter beta testing on the PlayStation 4 prior to the Xbox One and PC. This timed exclusivity was discovered by players who pre-ordered the recent Escape Dead Island spin-off from GameStop and received a bonus code for an eventual Dead Island 2 beta test. When attempting to redeem the code, players found an official notice that reads, "Those who have selected PS4 as their platform of choice for the Dead Island 2 beta will receive access 30 days before Xbox One and PC users." Unfortunately, there's no word on when the beta might start and publisher Deep Silver has yet to reveal any additional methods to enter the test. We expect more information soon, as Dead Island 2 is slated to debut in early 2015. [Image: Deep Silver]

Deep Silver issued a new trailer and screens for Saints Row: Gat out of Hell today, the stand-alone expansion for the publisher's popular open-world shooter, Saints Row 4. The game will feature "seven deadly weapons" for hero Johnny Gat to use against demonic enemies, each seen in action in the trailer after the break. The expansion will now launch one week ahead of schedule on January 20, 2015 alongside the Xbox One and PS4 ports of Saints Row 4, dubbed "Re-Elected." Deep Silver announced both projects at PAX Prime in late August with January 27 release dates attached to them. Those pre-ordering the $50 Xbox One or PS4 bundles, which include both Saints Row 4 and Gat Out of Hell, will also receive the Devil's Workshop and Plague of Frogs DLC packs for the games. Otherwise, players can purchase Gat Out of Hell on its own for $20 for PC, Xbox 360 and PS3. [Image: Deep Silver]

  • Saints Row creative director Jaros leaving Volition for Valve

After ten years at Volition, creative director Steve Jaros announced he's leaving the Saints Row studio to join the team at Valve Software. Jaros, who was at PAX Prime showcasing upcoming Saints Row 4 standalone expansion Gat out of Hell, enthused on Twitter about contributing to Saints Row and his "life changing" time at Volition. He added it was time to move on to "new adventures" at Valve, though he didn't specify what those adventures would entail. In other words, expect the portal gun to get a dubstep attachment soon enough. As for Volition, the Deep Silver studio's working with High Voltage Software to bring Saints Row 4 to PS4 and Xbox One on January 27, 2015, with Gat out of Hell releasing on the same day for last-gen, current-gen and PC. • UK takes Metro Redux to the top of the charts

Metro Redux - we can't believe they didn't go with Metro Revival - is the new UK No. 1 this week, overthrowing Diablo 3: Reaper of Souls - Ultimate Evil Edition after one week of glory. Meanwhile, Madden NFL 15 debuts 6th, which isn't bad given which version of football it is. The PS4, Xbox One and PC bundle of Metro 2033 and Metro: Last Light is Deep Silver's first No. 1 of the year, but it's far from the first remaster to lead the way in 2014. Upgraded and enhanced versions of Tomb Raider, Diablo 3 and The Last of Us had already scored five chart-topping weeks between them before Metro Redux came along, and we could see a few other remasters at the top before the year's close. In honor of the remasters, we're going to re-release our idea of music videos below the break for these posts. This week and with Metro in mind, we'll keep it Russian with 2000s duo t.A.T.u, who infamously caused great controversy with their awful capitalization.

Developer Volition announced at PAX Prime that they have released the official software development kit (SDK) for Saints Row 4 on PC, allowing enthusiasts of virtual sandbox mayhem with the technical know-how to create ... pretty much whatever they want. This can only end well. Although Saints Row 4 was released in August of last year, Volition is keeping up support for the game with two projects, both due on January 27, 2015: Saints Row 4: Re-elected will port the base game and all the DLC released so far to Xbox One and PS4, while Saints Row: Gat Out of Hell is a standalone expansion that sends players literally into the bowels of Hell. Volition has announced a new Saints Row 4 standalone expansion, titled Saints Row: Gat Out of Hell, during its panel today at PAX Prime 2014. A trailer shows Saints gang members Kinzie and Johnny Gat delving - and this is not a metaphor - into Hell to rescue the Saints Row boss who was promoted to President of the United States during Saints Row 4. Hell is said to be roughly 50 percent the size of Steelport - the city from Saints Row: The Third and Saints Row 4 - and players will be able to fly around the city using demonic wings. Volition is also including weapons themed after Biblical curses and stories, including a gun that fires a plague of locusts, a gun that fires a plague of frogs, and a chair with machine guns and rockets strapped to it, representing sloth - one of the seven deadly sins. There will also be a musical number. The expansion will feature 2-player co-op where one partner plays as Kinzie while the other takes control of Johnny Gat. The expansion will be released January 27, for $19.95. Check out the trailer after the break.

Escape Dead Island, a "third-person survival mystery" spin-off of the first-person melee RPG series, will run for its life on November 18. Available on Xbox 360, PS3 and PC, the game is a very different take on what fans of the series expect. Wait, stop. If we take Dead Island, Dead Island 2 and Dead Island Epidemic as representative of the franchise, we have no idea what fans should expect. It was also revealed today that those who pre-order and purchase Escape Dead Island in the UK will be guaranteed access to the Dead Island 2 beta. This was previously announced in the States as a pre-order bonus available exclusively at GameStop. [image: Deep Silver]

  • Crytek Ryses to the occasion to bring Son of Rome to PC

    08.07.2014

Ryse: Son of Rome has its ballistae and catapults aimed at the walls of the PC kingdom and developer/publisher Crytek expects to lay siege sometime this fall. What's more, Crytek is enlisting the aid of Dead Island series publisher, Deep Silver, which will handle boxed copies of the game. Er, uh ... boxes of ammunition, in keeping with the metaphor. The choice of co-publisher shouldn't come as too much of a surprise; following a "transitional phase" marked by multiple staff departures, Crytek offloaded the Homefront IP and a work-in-progress sequel called Homefront: The Revolution to Deep Silver just last month. It would seem the two companies are on friendly terms at the moment, and if that results in more people being offered the chance to play more games, we're okay with that. Ryse on PC will feature previously-released DLC, including the Colosseum Pack, the Mars' Chosen Pack, the Duel of Fates Pack and the Morituri Pack. PC players will also have access to the Ruins multiplayer map and the Legionnaire's Trust sword which were previously restricted to Day One Edition copies of the game. Lastly, the game will support 4K resolution, so you can take in the sights with absurd levels of detail. [Image: Crytek]

    08.05.2014

Deep Silver's hack-and-slash game Sacred 3 is now available on PS3, Xbox 360 and PC via Steam. The top-down brawler pits players and their co-op partners together against "hordes of grimmocs, brute beasts, legions of mercenaries and undead wizards." Oh my! As indicated by its name, Sacred 3 is the third game in the arcade-style action series, the first of which was originally developed by German studio Ascaron for PC in 2004. Announced in February, the latest game drops players into a war for the series' primary locale, Ancaria. Players choose one of four different heroes with varying skill and weapon sets, upgrading their characters and using special co-op combat arts to tackle bosses. Up to four fighters can adventure together online, though co-op action is limited to two players locally. [Image: Deep Silver]

  • Report: Dead Island movie back from the grave of Hollywood

    by

    08.03.2014

Dead Island series publisher Deep Silver has partnered with Occupant Entertainment in an attempt to revive the stalled Dead Island movie project, Deadline reports. Although Lionsgate bought the rights to a film based on the intellectual property back in 2011, the lack of momentum and departure of high-level personnel meant a return of those rights to Deep Silver. The original plan for a film was to follow the tone of the infamous trailer that shows a small horde of zombies attacking a family on vacation, but with Dead Island 2 on the way and a new trailer that goes in the opposite direction, we're left wondering which direction filmmakers will take. Actually, it sounds like Deep Silver and Occupant are in the same boat: "Deep Silver has created a highly successful game franchise based on very cinematic, widely viewed and well-received trailers, which provide a great template for launching a film franchise with a distinctive and commercial take on the zombie apocalypse," Occupant told Deadline. "We want to find the right filmmaker and present somewhat of an open canvas, to make something distinct and original that also appeals to and expands the core audience." Despite apparently not having a solid plan or filmmakers attached, Deep Silver and Occupant have reportedly fast-tracked the film's development, hoping to start production in early 2015. Clearly tired of Crytek's "transitional phase," publisher Deep Silver's parent company has acquired the Homefront intellectual property and related assets from Crytek. Homefront: The Revolution was under production at Crytek UK, with recent reports declaring production had halted and the game's director resigned. "We strongly believe in the potential of Homefront: The Revolution and trust in the new team to continue the path they have been walking in the last years," said Deep Silver CEO Dr. Klemens Kundratitz. The game will now be completed by the newly founded Nottingham-based Deep Silver Dambuster Studio. We've followed up with Deep Silver about whether staff from Crytek UK is transitioning over and will update with any further details.
